All About Pride

So, it’s finally fricken Pride!

For me, this year has been a rollercoaster so far. And I have never been one to celebrate Pride month much less anything else in my life. But this year has been different for me. Maybe because of this pandemic, maybe because of all the changes and uncertainties, or maybe because I’m getting older. But this year, I’m celebrating by showing my pride about who I am as an author. 🌈

In April of 2019, I published my first F/F Omegaverse book and effectively put on a mask to protect myself in the wlw/lesfic book world. At the time, I had no idea how readers, other authors, and anyone else in between would respond to the first ever published F/F Omegaverse book that contained erotic/explicit content where a female character had a penis. On top of that, the trope can often carry other sensitive topics such as fempreg, dark romance, dubious consent, and non-consent. To say I was scared on April 19th 2019 is an understatement – I was terrified. Even after publishing the first book, I remained anxious for all of 2019 and into 2020.

Until my readers’ constant support helped me realize it was okay.

This year, it feels better than okay to write and publish F/F Omegaverse. More recently, I realized I am Lexa Luthor. It’s no longer a mask that’s shielding me from possible failure, shaming, or ridicule. After struggling to find my way in life, I might have just done it and that’s a special feeling.

To celebrate Pride 2021, I am proudly sharing more about me, including my photo and my other pen name.

More about Lexa Luthor

I’m just gonna go ahead and rip off the band-aid here for those that have always questioned who the heck writes F/F Omegaverse! Lol.  I am a queer CIS female in her late thirties. Currently, I do go by her/she pronouns.

My writing started when I was a kid in middle school and continued into my high school years. The first story I ever shared publicly was a Xena fanfiction written under the name Red Hope. Over a twenty-year period, I wrote over a hundred fanfictions in a multitude of fandoms with The 100 being the last one. Then after a pink slip at my day job, I told myself it was time to turn a dream into a reality, and I started writing to publish. And so, here we are.

Besides the general tidbits on my bio page, I can tell you that I grew up around boats and boating. I am a huge nerd – anything sci-fi or fantasy just excites me. I have earned my Private Pilot’s ticket (yes, I can fly small airplanes) and love old WWII airplanes. (Does Charlie’s love for flying and airplanes now make sense? 😉) I’m a dog and cat momma. And to this day, Gabrielle from Xena Warrior Princess is still my most favorite character, ever.

Me after a good day of flying!Known under another pseudonym

Once or twice, I have made mention of another pen name that I wrote under. While Dancing in the Darkness was my first F/F Omegaverse book, it was not my first published book. I started publishing under the name Cameron North before I started the Luthor Publishing brand. For awhile now, I have struggled with whether or not to remove my Cameron North books. Finally, I have decided to keep the name and simply rework things.

Aviatrix Rosie from Cameron North

Later this year, I will be migrating Cameron North over to Luthor Publishing, which includes hosting Cameron North on my Lexa Luthor website. In the future, I will publish all “traditional” lesfic (i.e. non-Omegaverse) books under the Cameron North name so that there will always be that separation of traditional lesfic from F/F Omegaverse books. Currently, I have three books under Cameron North (they are oldies so don’t judge my early writing too hard 😣). The first book, Thora, will actually be rewritten and turned into an F/F Omegaverse book under Lexa Luthor. The new adult lesfic, Wicomico Slow, will receive a makeover but will remain under the Cameron name. Then the historical western, The Triple L, I’m still somewhat undecided at the moment.

From this day forward, I will be using a special avatar(s) on social media and on my website’s bio to show off my face. The avatar is pretty badass as it depicts me holding Kal’s sword, wearing Charlie’s jacket, and Kander in the background.

My snazzy new Alpha God avatar!

I want to thank all my readers for their love and support over the days, months, and years as I found my footing as an Omegaverse author. I didn’t think this day would come, but it is here, and it feels like a huge milestone in so many ways.

Today, I am proud to say I’m a queer female publishing F/F Omegaverse! 🥰

Happy Pride to all!
💓 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜

Why I Love F/F Omegaverse

This is a long, looong overdue post. Heck. A post at all is long overdue. But I have been dying to talk about this topic. 🥰

Over and over again, I get asked why I love F/F Omegaverse. Or how I came into it, even simply reading it much less writing & publishing it. It is a pretty strange trope! (At least at first glance.) I would be lying if I said it was insta-love when it came to F/F Omegaverse.

I guess the beginning is always the best place to start. My very first encounter I had was with a Clexa fanfic from The 100 TV show, which is the pairing of Lexa and Clarke.

The Clexa Kiss 😍

Honestly, I don’t remember much about my first F/F Omegaverse fanfic. But what I do recall are words like “Alpha”, “Omega”, “Beta”, and “pheromones” being sprinkled about and thinking that’s a bit bizarre. I figured it was some werewolf paranormal plot line. As the story went along, Lexa was suddenly sporting a big, erect penis and trying to knot Clarke.

WTF! 😨

^
I’m fairly certain that’s many newcomers’ initial, unprepared reaction! 🤣

Um. So I closed out that fanfic when all of that started happening between Lexa and Clarke. Again, I still wrote it off as a kinky werewolf one-of-a-kind “I’ll never see that again” type of fanfic. I dodged a reading bullet there! Phew! Alrighty time to move on to other Clexa fanfics….

Except I started noticing other Clexa fanfics had those strange words but as tags. There were words like “Alpha/Omega” or “Omega Verse” or “Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics”. Then there was this one tag that caught my eye called “g!p”. Even after I googled it and found out what it meant, I still didn’t get it. Are you really telling me there’s people out there writing F/F fanfics that involve a “girl penis”? That’s so absurd! Pffft! Again, time to move on…

I returned to my regularly scheduled traditional F/F Clexa fanfics. …but a lot more Clexa fanfics started sporting those big Omegaverse tags, just like Lexa with her penis! It was so haaard to avoid them now. Then one day I saw an F/F Omegaverse Clexa fanfic that had A LOT of kudos and reviews. So I said to myself, “Self, this has to be really good with all these kudos and reviews.” I took a chance. And it was worth it. My world started to change…

No, it still wasn’t insta-love for F/F Omegaverse for me. Even though My Bones Have Found A Place had opened my eyes, it hadn’t quite opened my heart to the trope. The fanfic had encouraged me to try other F/F Omegaverse stories. And some were waaaay more graphic than others. There was no way I was going to burn in Hell for reading them because I was already burning up from the explicit content.

At first, the g!p content was confusing and left me with questions about F/F, about the Clexa fandom, about who is reading g!p, and even questioning myself. Am I still a lesbian? Was I ever truly a lesbian? 🤯🤔 Needless to say, my boundaries were tested. I started doing research and got friendly with the Kinsey Scale. Finally, I was like: “Self, you are a cis queer woman who likes some penis, on a woman.” And so I was good with that. As one of my readers once said to me, g!p just started working for me one day.

I am not a shamed to say that I started reading a shit ton of fanfics with F/F Omegaverse content. I was checking every fandom I loved for any F/F Omegaverse – The 100, Supergirl, Xena, Once Upon a Time, The Legend of Korra, Wonder Woman, and later on She-Ra.

Then one day, I started my first F/F Omegaverse fanfic about Lexa & Clarke. It was about eight or so chapters deep before I stopped and focused on publishing, not F/F Omegaverse. I tried traditional lesfic first (more on that later). It went okay, buuuut just okay is not okay. At some point, I discovered that M/F and M/M Omegaverse books were a thing. But there was no F/F Omegaverse books that I could find. Say what? F/F Omegaverse is a big success in fanfic but not in publishing? Needless to say, I took a leap of faith and never looked back in regret.

So why do I love F/F Omegaverse?

It’s the idea of an unbreakable union between true mates. It’s that self-assured, strong female Alpha. It’s even the gentle but resilient Omega. Then those baser needs like scenting, rumbling, growling, and biting are exciting. And of course, the g!p adds (not takes away) a new dimension to F/F sex. Yes, both female characters can still do all the same things in the bedroom as before but now there’s some extra action. 🔥

So that’s why I’m in it… for the Alpha, the Omega, and their true mate bond that involves a bit of possession, a lot of sex, and happily ever.

And that’s my story. If you have your own story about how you fell for F/F Omegaverse, drop a comment or shoot me a DM about why you enjoy it. Because I do love learning how others had their F/F Omegaverse cherry popped. 🍒

F/F Omegaverse Fanfiction Recs

Similar to my F/F Omegaverse Books post, I have a nice list of recommendations for F/F Omegaverse Fanfictions. There are hundreds and hundreds of amazing F/F Omegaverse fanfictions that can be found at the Archive of Our Own (AO3) and Fanfiction.net. Down below is just a short list of ones that I have read and enjoyed. Many also have and continue to inspire me as a F/F Omegaverse author.

I will do my best to update the list as I read new ones (or reread old ones). All stories are broken up by fandom. And fair warning, some fictions are complete, incomplete, or in-progress. Please enjoy!

First Anniversary!

So one year ago on April 25, 2019, I took a risk and published the first F/F Omegaverse book. It was a scary and exciting moment because I had no clue how well or how badly it could go. But it seems like it’s working out okay.

F/F Omegaverse Fanfiction Recs

This is a pretty overdue post! I’ve had numerous people reach out and ask what F/F Omegaverse books are out there. Or what have I read that’s F/F Omegaverse. I’m afraid to say that currently there are no other authors publishing F/F Omegaverse, but I do hope there will be.

However, there are hundreds and hundreds of amazing F/F Omegaverse fanfictions that can be found at the Archive of Our Own (AO3) and Fanfiction.net. Down below is just a short list of ones that I have read and enjoyed. Many also have and continue to inspire me as a F/F Omegaverse author.

So, is it really F/F?

When it comes to F/F Omegaverse, I think the biggest question surrounding F/F Omegaverse is whether or not it really qualifies as F/F…. or Lesfic…. or WLW. It’s probably the most important question that a reader can ask themselves when considering whether to read F/F Omegaverse. And I’m here to tell you that there’s no quick answer. But I will do my best to help guide you on determining if Omegaverse might be for you, especially when it comes to my books.

In this post, I’ll be using the terms:
-M/F: Male/Female
-F/F: Female/Female
-Lesfic: Lesbian Fiction
-WLW: Women Loving Women
-G!p: Girl Penis

So, the elephant in the F/F Omegaverse room is the girl penis content and if that makes it more M/F versus F/F. For some people, having g!p content automatically means it’s not F/F. But for some others, it doesn’t meant that at all. Then for a few other readers, they’re just unsure or undecided and might be curious.

First though, we should dig into the essence of Omegaverse as a trope and one of the core elements that makes it Omegaverse. In the trope, the Alpha and Omega are animal-like, which includes fulfilling the need to reproduce (this need varies in degree according to the author). For an Alpha that means impregnating, knotting, and marking the Omega, who has an ingrained need to have offspring with an Alpha. It sounds totally archaic and even sexist. Maybe so! But it’s what makes the trope. And for the Alpha, they (usually) need a penis to be able to impregnate, knot, and (scent) mark an Omega.

But doesn’t that make it M/F now? Wellll, not exactly…

In many ways, we touch into current real-world discussions about sex vs gender. We’re biologically determined as a sex such as female, male, or intersex. But with gender, that is something much more personal about how an individual perceives themselves. For F/F Omegaverse, we can apply both topics to the female Alpha.

With sex, the female Alpha often (but not always) has both female and male reproductive systems. Each Omegaverse author puts their own spin on the female Alpha’s anatomy. The variations may include the female Alpha having a penis full time, magically having a penis only during ruts, or even both a clit & penis where the penis retracts. In my series, The Alpha God, the female Alpha named Kal has a penis full time, internal testes, breasts, no clitoris, vaginal opening, and fully functional reproductive systems of both a male & female. When it comes to Kal’s physical attributes, she is described as having long, dark hair, feminine facial features, around seven feet tall, and a very muscular build.

On the obverse side of the coin, the Alpha’s gender is another topic. Generally speaking, Omegaverse authors consider their female Alphas just that, a female. The female Alpha character herself typically identifies as a female in the story. Usually the pronouns used to describe the female Alpha are she and her. In The Alpha God series, Kal has never stated her gender and that mostly has to do with her being another (alien) species where they don’t use male or female. She sees herself as an Alpha and a rare breed called a Carnec Alpha. However, the books are told from the point of view of a female human. Charlie, the female human, views Kal as a female and throughout the book uses she/her pronouns to describe Kal.

Okay so does all this really mean that a female Alpha is actually a female? Maybe the female Alpha is kinda like a female with a strap-on on all the time? Also maybe the female Alpha is non-binary? Or maybe the female Alpha is… Well, we could keep going on with the debate.

In the end, the real answer is that it’s in the eyes of the reader.

Each reader has a different view point, comfort level, and what kind of content they like to read. When it comes to the female Alpha, it’s up to you, as the reader, to determine whether or not you believe that a female Alpha can fit into the scope of F/F, Lesfic, or WLW. But hopefully this blog post can help you understand what a female Alpha is, or could be, so that you can decide whether you’d enjoy reading stories about female Alphas.

I truly hope this post helps someone decide whether to dive into F/F Omegaverse. Please remember, my door is always open for discussions and questions about Omegaverse. You can drop me a DM via email, Twitter, or Facebook.

Xo,
Lexa*
