Things That Are Good About November

It’s been a busy fall–I’ve been on and off the road for months, and I leave again in a few days. I’m really excited about the next leg of my tour, which includes the Wisconsin Book Festival and four dates opening for my friends The Magnetic Fields. If you live in Detroit, Pittsburgh, or DC, get your tickets here!

But that’s not all! There are lots other of exciting things happening in November. Here’s a brief list of things I’m looking forward to this month.

-Voting! I really can’t wait. Do you know where your polling station is? Things are all messed up in the Northeast because of Hurricane Sandy’s path, so make sure you know where to go.

-The Vampire Diaries! Soapy, ridiculous, and just the ticket. Availble on Netflix Instant.

-New baubles from my darlings at Ban.do!

-Saltie (my favorite lunch spot in the world) has a new cookbook.

I’m also cooking up some ideas about some Laura Lamont-themed holiday events, about which I will keep you posted.

Happy November!

love,

Emma

p.s. The image above is from the amazing cartoon-review from The Rumpus, drawn by Kevin Thomas. I bought the original and framed it. I’m in love.

I Want to Talk to You

Dear Reader,

Are you in a book club? Me too! I love book clubs! Is your book club interested in reading Laura Lamont and talking to me about it via Skype or telephone or video chat or, if you’re in the NYC area, in person? This offer is also available, of course, for book clubs facilitated by bookstores! We can talk about anything you like. But first you have to invite me!

Send me an email at emmastraublovesbookclubs at gmail dot com, and we’ll make a plan. Looking forward to it!

love

The New York Times Magazine and Some Great New Reviews!

This wonderful picture appears in this Sunday’s NYT Magazine’s Inspiration issue, with an accompanying profile that talks all about me and Jennifer Jones. Read it here! So, so, so thrilling.

Also thrilling are two new reviews–The Washington Post and the San Francisco Chronicle!

Also also, there are ever more photos from my book tour on my Tumblr page.

Cheers!

All Things Considered

My interview with Jacki Lyden at All Things Considered just aired, much to my great, great delight. If you missed the broadcast, listen to it here! There’s also a brief excerpt of Laura Lamont‘s first chapter on the NPR website.

Hooray!

My Book Tour

I am having so much fun on my book tour, and I’m taking lots and lots of pictures, like the one above, taken last night in Door County. If you would like to see all these wacky photos, slide on over to my Tumblr, which can be found here.

Love from Milwaukee!

Laura Lamont Available Now!

Whew! Yesterday was Laura’s official pub date, and was such a whirlwind that I didn’t even have time to post about it here. She’s out, she’s out! She’s running amok all by herself in the aisles of bookstores large and small! It’s very, very exciting, and slightly surreal, to see copies of the book on shelves. Surreal and lovely. Please do go pick up a copy today. (Links to order can be found just to the right…)

There’s also been a spate of good interviews and reviews lately–here’s a little round-up of my favorites.

Review in Matchbook Magazine! (p.28)

Interview in Interview!

Interview in W!

Slide show for the HuffPo in which I recast classic movies!

The book tour starts tomorrow, at BookCourt. Hope to see you all soon!

love

Emma

Entertainment Weekly

As a good Saint Ann’s girl, grades have never meant very much to me, but I sure do love this A- from Entertainment Weekly. It’s my favorite grade in the world, starting right now. The following images are taken from this week’s new issue of EW, the one with Jessica Lange on the cover in her American Horror Story regalia. The first is the review of the book, and the second is a page of their Must List, on which I am #8. I am absolutely THRILLED.

Introducing The Good Face

And now, with a break from all the good news, some good news of another kind! Amidst all the excitement surrounding Laura Lamont this summer, I’m thrilled to report that I have sold my second novel to the wonderful people at Riverhead. I couldn’t be happier to continue to work with them. The novel is called The Good Face, and is about a no-nonsense bouncer at a nightclub in Kansas City who rips people’s throats out. Just kidding! That’s the plot of Patrick Swayze’s Road House. The Good Face is about the Post family, who readers may remember from three of the stories in Other People We Married. The book follows the Posts and their extended posse on a two-week vacation in Mallorca, Spain. It will be out in 2014.

Cheers!

The September Issue

This fall is exciting for many reason, with the release of my book at the tippy top, but the the next most exciting thing is this: I have a short story in the September issue of Vogue, which hit newsstands today. It’s about a movie star who abandons Hollywood in favor of her horses. I am beyond thrilled. Go pick up a copy. It’s the flipping September issue! In my mind, Grace, Anna, and I are all best friends now. And Lady Gaga. We’re having a sleepover at Anna’s house tonight. I’m bringing the brownies.

Eeeek!

Yours,

Emma
