Ele Moms to the Rescue

Check out the video of a pair of eles saving a baby that fell into its drinking hole at a zoo in Korea! This is something that we actually see a lot in the wild in Namibia. See the full story at Washington Post where Caitlin describes how we have seen both experienced and nooby moms trying to help their babies out of a tight spot. There is always a lot of drama, a thoroughly surprised and wet baby and a lot of complicated cooperation. But at our field site it always tuns out well in the end.

Elephant Dreaming

In just over a month we will be back in Namibia for a new field season with the eles. This is usually when the dreams of elephants and lions start kicking in!

On Elephants, the Illegal Ivory Trade, and Fiction - Signature Reads

I get a lot of questions about how I got from elephant research to writing fiction about elephants and poaching. The short answer is that I will use any way I can to get people to listen to the plight of the elephant! I wrote this short web article (link to article) to explain my process.

Next up - An awesome graphic novel adaption of my first ele poaching novel…more soon.
