Web Exclusives: Read Excerpt from ‘Finding Chika’ and Watch This from CBS Sunday Morning

In 2013, author and Free Press columnist Mitch Albom admitted a young girl named Chika Jeune into the orphanage he operates in Port Au Prince, Haiti.

Little Chika was born three days before the massive earthquake of 2010, and miraculously survived it, despite her cinder block house collapsing. Albom said she was “born tough.”

Tour Dates Announced for “Finding Chika”

Most of the following events are ticketed and include a signed hardcover copy of the book, and some even raise funds for DIPG research and other great causes in celebration of the release of Finding Chika, in stores November 5, 2019.

More events in Michigan will be added in November and December, as well as additional events in January and February.

Albom Honored with Founders Award

Each year, the Brain Injury Association of Michigan hosts a Spring Tribute Dinner in which its Legacy Society recognizes its newest contributing members and selects as honorary members individuals who have contributed to the brain injury field, or have shown a demonstrated leadership in working to improve lives of persons with brain injuries.

‘Next Person’ a Wilbur Award Winner

Presented annually since 1949, The Wilbur Awards are given to secular media – print and online journalism, book publishing, broadcasting, and motion pictures – who have thoughtfully brought religious issues and spiritual themes into the public discourse. This year, the fiction prize went to Mitch Albom for The Next Person You Meet in Heaven. He previously won the award in 2010 in the nonfiction category for Have a Little Faith. 2018 Michigan APME Finalists Announced

Finalists in the Michigan Associated Press Media Editors 2018 newspaper contest were announced today. The top three places — the awards in order of finish  —  will be announced at the annual awards banquet in Lansing on April 28.
