Today, I wanted to give you my Top 5 list for time travel theories that are from movies or tv shows. Some of them might be scientifically possible and others might be completely fictional, but these theories grabbed my attention for one reason or another. I decided to do this blog post, because my book that will be releasing soon, Vanished: Brides of the Kindred 21, has time travel involved in it. Also as a side note,  Vanished will explain how my new series that I am working on, Children of the Kindred, will be able to work.

Number 5: 1979’s Superman: The Movie

In “Superman: The Movie,” Superman flies around the Earth until he is moving faster than the speed of light, thus traveling back in time. This is visually represented by the Earth appearing to spin backwards.

 

 

Number 4: The Terminator franchise

Time travel and its potential for effecting changes on reality is a huge part of the Terminator Universe. By making use of time displacement equipment agents are deployed on missions designed to either ensure, alter, or eradicate the status quo as perceived by the participants at the time. However, the equipment is limited to organic objects, such as humans. Clothes and weapons don’t count.

 

Number 3: Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle In Time

 

In “A Wrinkle In Time” (2018, based on the book series that started in 1963), time is folded by means of wrinkling time by using a tesseract; and that “the fifth dimension’s a tesseract. In the novel, the tesseract functions more or less like what in modern science fiction is called a space warp or a wormhole, a portal from one area of space to another which is possible through the bending of the structure of the space-time continuum. This meaning may or may not be loosely related to the mathematical notion of a tesseract, a shape analogous to a cube in a space with four spatial dimensions.

 

Number 2: BBC’s Doctor Who

Many of you have probably heard about Doctor Who or at one point or another. Part of that is probably because this tv show has been around for a long time (1963-present) or maybe you love one of the actors who have played the Doctor during one of its many seasons. The show centers around the Doctor who explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS which is a blue British police box that was a common sight in Britain in 1963.

TARDIS  (Time and Relative Dimension in Space) – a time machine that travels by materialising into and dematerialising out of the time vortex. Outside observers at the departure point see the TARDIS vanish, and those at the destination see the TARDIS appear from nothing.

 

 

Number 1: Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling

If you have seen the Harry Potter movies, you might remember in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione uses a Time-Turner to attend more classes and exams than would be physically possible. A Time-Turner allows for limited time travel; turning the Time-Turner over once causes everyone within the attached chain to go one hour back in time. It also appears that it allows for some control over where in space they will appear.

A New Voice of the Kindred…

I have a brand new narrator for the rest of the KINDRED series–William Martin who narrated my books Purity and Planet X as well as the male parts of my Alien Mate Index audio books.

Mr. Martin likes to keep himself, anonymous and mysterious–the only thing I can tell you about him is that he comes from Canada where it’s cold but his voice is hot as my listeners can attest. Mr. Martin agreed to break his silence and answer a few questions from listeners about his narration process, so I ran a KINDRED Audiobook Contest and had my readers send in their questions. I chose the best 5 questions and passed them on for Mr. Martin to answer!

So without further ado, here are the questions and answers:

Q: How do you prepare for narrating a book? Do you read the entire book prior to narrating to plan out character voices or do you prefer to read the book for the very first time as you narrate and figure out the voices as you go along?

WM:  I prefer to read it for the first time as I narrate, although when I first started I would pre-read.  I like meeting the characters for the first time and discovering the twists and turns of the story unfold as the listener does – I find there’s something more authentic feeling about that… and I approach the characters’ voices on Evangeline’s description clues and then on instinct as each comes up and mostly just try to stay true to each moment of dialogue as it happens.  The characters usually just come after that.

Q: How are you able to immerse yourself into the characters in order to reflect the emotions of the scene?

WM: I have a background in acting, music as well as a few years of working in post-sound for film – those help me I think.  There are musical ‘notes’ for each character I find, and a rhythm in each character’s voice as a starting point when I narrate.  The emotion is all there in the dialogue and Evangeline’s great, imaginative writing – my job is just to be as authentic as possible to each character dealing with each moment.  The film sound background comes into play a little bit with mic technique and learning what sounds I can make from a whisper to a bellow and how and when to apply it to a character or character’s emotional moment.

Q: How accurate does Evangeline write the male characters thoughts and feelings? Compared to yourself and men you know.

WM: I think Evangeline writes these beautifully nuanced characters both male and female, but I think she’s going for a different archetype from myself personally – or men I know – for best effect to build tension and intrigue for the story and she does it beautifully time and again.  I think my process (and male friends) in these situations would be a little different – for instance emotional honesty is paramount to me in my personal/romantic life and I tend not to let feelings fester unsaid.  But many of the male characters come from a place of shame or damage around vulnerabilities like that and so act accordingly – to great effect for the story!  Truthfully, it’s hard to compare.

Q: How does it feel knowing that for audible listeners it will not only be the words in the story that will give us the pleasure we seek but most importantly the sound of your voice?

WM: I’m honestly flattered, thrilled and honoured by this question.   I hope I never take for granted the intimacy built between a listener’s ear and a narrator’s voice, and that in this case it happens to be my voice is a big thrill for me.

Q: Readers love Brides of the Kindred books not only because they are fantastic paranormal reads but also because they’re steamy. Was there any part(s) in the story that had an affect on you and if so, what part?

WM: Too many to mention really, but in chapter nine of Revealed that was just released, there’s a lovely scene where Rast had to give a naked Nadiah his oversized shirt to wear while her tharp recovered.  I must admit, I have a bit of a weakness for that look…. and the Blood Challenge in chapter 18 where Nadiah and Rast share blood was pretty great too…

Bonus Question: Do you get hot and bothered when you read the love scenes? If so, do you use your own interest in the scene to bring heat to your performance as you read it?

WM: Absolutely!  For all love scenes I try to have my mind in that mode going in, because I really think the listener can hear and sense a difference.  And I want the listener to stay in the moment.
