The Friday Five!

1. I know it’s Friday, but it totally feels like Tuesday to me. This is because I was in NYC from Monday-Wednesday, which felt so decadent and fun it was like a weekend, so I’m all thrown off. Not that I am complaining: I love when Friday is a pleasant surprise. New York was SO fun and busy. I came home with a packed suitcase (had to sit on it to get it shut), sore feet and shin splints from walking too much in Unreasonable Shoes. Totally worth it, though. I’ve been wearing my TOMS ever since...

The Friday Five!

1. What do you get when you mix a livelong love of office supplies and an author with ten almost eleven books of quotes? This:

I have Oprah to blame (or thank) for these. I was listening to Oprah Radio (what?) and heard a commercial for custom made pens. Immediately, I was interested. Mostly because I LOVE all things school supply related, but also because I’ve been looking for something fun to give away that isn’t size dependent/bulky to pack like T-shirts. Fifteen minutes later, I had placed...

The Friday Five (trying again…)

Okay, so the first version of this Five formatted all weird. Hopefully this one will work better. We’ll see!

1. This has been the Week of Sick at our house. Maybe it’s the change in weather, or re-entering preschool (also known as the germ festival) or just bad luck, but all THREE of us in our little family were hit with the same bug this week. It’s bad enough when my kid is sick. She’s helpless and can’t sleep, which means I don’t sleep, and I feel like I want to fix things but can’t. But fac...

Just a quick Monday post…

…to say I have the best blog readers and commenters EVER. Thanks to everyone who suggested boot alternative for a girl who has issues with her calves. And ankles. And boots in general. Right after I wrote Friday’s post, though, I went to Nordstrom Rack and found these. My friend Dana always says that when you find the right shoe or outfit, it calls to you. I think I could hear them, because I picked them up:

I brought them to the dressing room, where I tried them on with a pair of jeans I was...

The Friday Five!

1. This is the week the weather changed. It’s cool in the mornings, not humid: the air doesn’t feel like a giant sponge you have to fight your way through, as it has since, well, May or so. Flip side of the cooler temps, though, is that EVERYONE is suddenly sick. My daughter came down with some bug last weekend, coughing and entirely stuffed up, and now my husband’s got it. I feel like everyone I see is clutching a tissue or sneezing. ICK! I’m already obsessive about hand sanitizer and hand w...

The Friday Five!

1. It’s been a full week since my daughter’s birthday extravaganza began, and I am STILL tired. Man. Up until this year, we’ve done one big party with family/friends at our house, which always was fun but stressful. So this year, I decided to outsource the party to a local tumbling place for the kid part of things, then do a lunch at my mother-in-law’s for the family. Simpler, right? Well….not so much. Because somehow we ended up with a Friday night dinner out, Saturday kid party, Sunday morn...

The Friday Five!

!. Man, oh, man what IS it with this week? I feel like everyone I know has been struggling with something, so much strain in the air. Then I wake up today to find out that Robin Roberts, who has been SO kind to me when I have visited GMA (and made many of those visits possible) lost her mother last night. This when she’s also going to undergo a bone marrow transplant next week. I know she’s a strong person, but come on, Universe! It’s all most too much to bear. I have a dear friend that is go...

Upcoming appearances…

I just realized that the appearance dates I have up here on my website are over a year old. Whoops! Truth is, after the last tour ended last December, I was SO exhausted I haven’t done much of anything. Other than, um, write another book. Which will be out June 4, 2013. It’s called THE MOON AND MORE. Plus, the paperback of WHAT HAPPENED TO GOODBYE will be released in April 2013. What this means is I WILL have appearances to post, lots of them, probably in the new year. So stay tuned!

The Friday Five!

1. I cannot believe that I’m starting another blog while reacting to news of a public shooting incident, this time in NYC. I don’t go into politics here, for any number of reasons. But can’t something be done about this? It makes me feel so helpless and sad, and worried for my own daughter and all the things I can’t protect her from. Is it a matter of control? Better diagnosis/early intervention for mental illness? I have no idea, but I’m just a writer: there’s got to be somebody who has put...
