The Taxman Cometh

All the little bits of paper have been dealt with, and my accountant has come and gone. Now the ball is in his park. The only thing left for me to do is write several whopping big checks, once he's crunched the numbers.

Yay! Another monkey off my back.

All I have to do now is write my script for the HBO series, finish editing the new Wild Cards book FORT FREAK, write up my version of the last Suvudu cage match so Jaime doesn't lose to Rand al'Thor, complete A DANCE WITH DRAGONS, review some ...

Rand al'Thor Talks Trash

Courtesy of the wizards at Suvudu, I have just been informed that Rand al'Thor has responded to Ser Jamie Lannister's challenge to make their cage mathc final a Trial of Seven.

Rand's response:

"Ser Lannister, you do not fool me with your 'challenge'—nor do I feel challenged in any way by our upcoming match.

"I will meet on whatever field of battle you deem fit; it makes no difference to me. If you prefer for your people to be able to see your demise, I salute that.

"Bring as many of your warrio...

Clearance Sale at Valyrian Resin

All good things come to an end, alas.

Valyrian Resin's line of Ice & Fire minibusts is one of those. My license with Haute Products has now run its course and expired, so there will be no more releases.

(A pity. Their sculptor Justice Joseph was working up some great figures).

HOUND STANDARD

There's a silver lining in the cloud, however. To move its unsold inventory, Valyrian Resin has just anounced a special sale on the resin minibusts still in stock.

DANY STANDARD

That Time of Year

It's that time of year. I have an appointment with my accountant on Wednesday, so I am doing my taxes. Or more precisely, preparing my taxes so my accountant can do them.

Whatever you call it, I am drowning in little bits of paper.

I don't actually mind paying taxes. I recognize that taxes are the price of civilization, that they pay for many things I value and would be loathe to do without.

But I hate DOING taxes. I hate receipts, and 1099s, and W-2s and W-3s, and adding up everything six t...

Jaime's Challenge

The good news: Jaime Lannister pulled it out and defeated Kvothe. Came from 700 votes behind in the final hours to win handily... all thanks to you guys, of course. Thanks to all of you who voted for him... and all of you who voted for his opponent (misguided though you are). And to Patrick Rothfuss, a fine writer and a good sport, who made this round a lot of fun. RIP, Kvothe.

The bad news: Jaime is in the final, and his opponent is Rand al'Thor.

Let me see. Rand is a master swordsman....

Suvudu Final Four

The good news: the Kingslayer has survived another match, defeating the dragon Temeraire to advance into the final four of Suvudu's cage matches.

The bad news: he's now going up against Patrick Rothfuss's singing innkeeper Kvothe, which wouldn't be so bad if Kvothe would just stick to stews and sheets, but he also happens to be a fair swordsman and a crackerjack wizard, so... as it happens, he's now leading Jaime, and today is the last day in the match.

No Foolin'

Another tradition bites the dust. (In fandom, anything you do twice is a tradition).

I know, I know, it's April 1st. For the past two years I've made a bogus April Fool's post on this day, but not this year. The day came rushing up on me too fast, I fear. I had a vague notion of announcing that HBO had recast the part of Tyrion, replacing Peter Dinklage with Gary Coleman, but somehow I don't think that would have fooled anyone. Then I thought maybe I could post that William Shatner had be...
