Happy INDIEpendence day!!!

In honor of this great weekend, the Indelibles thought it would be a great time to honor those fellow Indies among us and give homage to their handwork and beautiful writing. In that vein I officially dub this M. Leighton INDIEpendence day on my blog!

If you haven't had the privilege of reading M. Leighton's novels I would hope you would quickly rectify that. She's written everything from Vampires to Mermaids, to non paranormal romance. I think what endears me most to this sweet writer is at the heart of every one of her stories is a hawt romance. And really? What's better than that?

Here are some of M. Leighton's titles. Be sure to give her novels a try by reading the sample chapters that Amazon provides. Trust me, you won't be sorry!  Happy reading~!

If you would like to win a SIGNED copy of any one of M. Leighton's books (winner's choice) simply leave a comment. A Kindle edition will also be given away. So TWO winners with TWO great prizes!!

Questions for M. Leighton? Questions for me? Or tell us about an indie book that rocked your world! Leave a comment to win!

contest ends midnight 7-5-12

Happy Fourth everyone~!

ETHEREAL is FREE plus Tuesday teasers...

ETHEREAL is free! Link: FREE!

(From Facebook with love;)

Welcome back to the Tuesday Tease! ETHEREAL is FREE! I’ve never had a free book before so I’m rather excited. If you could give it a shout out or two I would be forever in your debt. :)

I’ve included a few extras because I was late in posting. BTW, Gage is so hard to tease without spoiling storylines. Yikes! Sorry!

Onto the teasers!

EPHEMERAL (The Countenance 1)

*(Laken trying to keep her thoughts from Wesley)

I suppress all thoughts of Cooper and his hyper willingness to accept my beliefs. Trying to keep Cooper down is far more difficult than submerging my family. It’s like trying to bury a pocket of air in the deepest part of the ocean—impossible, irresponsible on some level.

TOXIC (Celestra Series Book 7)

*(Skyla, Gage and Chloe)

“So where were we?” I say to Gage. “Oh, that’s right, you were going to tell me everything.” I blink a quick smile at him as Chloe sits across from us.

“Oh,” Chloe squeals with delight, “I was so hoping I could be privy to this conversation. Go ahead and dish, Gage—tell her everything.” Chloe’s entire face glows at the prospect. “Nothing but the truth.”

*(Skyla listening to Marshall (who by way was very naughty this week in edits)

“I thought I understood love, knew the lay of the land, all of its inroads.” He sighs hard over my head and lands a kiss to my temple. “I knew nothing of it until I met you, Skyla. You’ve redefined love for me. It’s sacred—anointed with the highest regard and blessing.”

I’ve never heard words like that from Marshall. His placating sexuality, his wry wit and humor all gone, nothing but the naked form of a man underneath, declaring his love for me.

*(Skyla and Logan)

I lie down and place my head in his lap, gaze up at his divinely anointed features. “You are thing of beauty, you know that?” I whisper captivated by Logan. “It was you in the vision I had—the one waiting for me at the end of the aisle. Never Gage.” My stomach tightens at the thought.

Logan sags in defeat, offers a depleted smile as he combs his fingers through my hair. “I won’t deny the fact we’re going to happen.”

*(Skyla with Wesley from EPHEMERAL!!!) yes, this has me excited. ;)

“You may not kiss me. You may never kiss me. I will rip your balls through your asshole and shove them down your throat if you ever even think of doing that again.” I might be moved to renege on my offer to not go ape shit all over his Countenance and really make him resent the fact he didn’t tie me up. Of course, they’d probably skin both Logan and I, because God knows he’d involve himself in any altercation that might include me.

*(Skyla and Gage near Mom and Tad. This is SO not what it seems Or is it? ;)

I seize up. God forbid the contents fly out of the bag like candy from a piñata. Mom and Tad are going to think Gage and I are involved in some heavy hitting sexcapades.
For a minute I envision myself strapped and secured to the four posts of my bed with Gage at the helm wielding a whip. A torrent of fire explodes inside me, and I sway on my heels.

If you've enjoyed the books please feel free to leave a review at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and the like. It is much appreciated!

I'm hoping for a July release of EPHEMERAL and an August release for TOXIC. *hopes* I'll keep you updated!

As always, happy reading~!

Skyla Goes To Hollywood Part Two…

Well it finally happened! My fab agent Rachelle Gardnerarranged for a meeting with the wonderful Suzanne Jaskow of Unsupervised productions last week and we had a fantastic time!!!
First, I had never been to the Fox studio lot before so already I knew I was in for an adventure. The lot was huge and gorgeous. There were beautiful wall murals on the sides of the studio buildings, gorgeous topiaries at every turn, and the entire lot had an old Hollywood feel.
The day went something like this: meet Rachelle at the mall. Fun, right? Head over to Fox together. Trek across miles of what feels very much like a college campus. Locate the awesome office of my wonderful producers and find the wonderful, amazing, Suzanne! Head over to the caf for a lunch of salads and diet coke. Zip my lips so nothing ridiculous has the chance to escape. Mostly listen, but interject when extremely necessary and enjoy a heavenly conversation of all things film, movies, and TV!
What about Celestra? We touched on that, too. Right this minute the project is with a writer who is working to convert it into a pilot!!! Exciting, right? Evidently these things take time, lots of time, but that’s perfectly fine with me. I’ve got all the time in the world, and I’d love to see it happen.
We talked a little further about the project and potential sales channels were mentioned such as CW and MTV. <----- Pretty awesome, right?
After lunch, Rachelle and I walked around the lot for a while and even paid a visit to the gift shop where I splurged on a 20thCentury Fox coffee mug that I’ve been using religiously ever since. ;)
Fun Times.
Book updates! I’ve finally concluded my endless polishing marathon of EPHEMRAL and am ready send it off to the editor and betas this week! *breathes *
Also in the back of EPHEMRAL I’ll be debuting a new series that is not even remotely Celestra related and I’m super happy about that. I was thirsting for a book that I could unleash my inner snark on and I think I’ve found it. *hopes*  I cannot wait to share Talon and Levi with you, also Vampires are involved. An insanely good time is being had by me and my keyboard.
As for Celestra, I am now all about TOXIC Book 7 and am 1000% committed to walking Skyla and friends to the e-book store later this summer. I’m planning to dedicate every hour in June shaking, scraping, polishing that book until it glows in the dark. Hopefully by the end of the month I’ll be ready to send it off for edits. It’s a long book but I’m ready for the challenge.
As soon as I hit publish on TOXIC, I’ll be penning book 8 and once that’s done, I’m jumping right into the new series with Skyla. I hope you’ll join me. This wild ride is not nearly over.
Have any burning questions? I'll be glad to answer if I can.

Placeholder cover for EPHEMERAL

Welcome! Here's the working cover for my new series,  EPHEMERAL (The Countenance Book 1).

The book is under the editing knife as we speak. Laken my new MC had a brief cameo in VEX as the girl in the blue tube, and Wesley, her boyfriend, is featured in Celestra Book 7! The Countenance is a spin off series of Celestra and has loose ties to themes and characters. I anticipate The Countenance to be a trilogy, but it might span out to four books.

Here's the preface~  Happy reading!

Preface
I used to believe in things, in people, in places, and names—concrete forms of life that ended at some point in the unknowable future. I used to believe memories were infallible, that they could never collapse around you like a house of cards, burn to cinders before ever touching the ground.

People vanish all the time. Other people. You hear about it on the news, see their smiling faces staring back at you on milk cartons—their pictures plastered around town like wanted posters. But it was a world within a world, and innately you knew this could never really happen.

I used to believe in death. I used to believe once they put you in that box and tucked you away for one very long night under six feet of soil it was finished. The sunlight, fresh air, a warm embrace, they would never be yours again. It was the final vanishing act—your curtain pulled down and covering your casket. That was the day it would all start anew. Staring into the face of God, awaiting your final judgment.

But I was wrong about everything.

I had my name, my life, and my eternal judgment revoked in one passing hour at the hands of madmen who share my bloodlines.

They took everything but my memory. They tried and failed, and now I am nothing more than a liability, a spark in a bed of dried timber, waiting to unleash an inferno. I don’t know how long I can go before they stop me or if they even care.

I used to believe so easily and now I strain the most insignificant detail from each passing day as if it were poison.

I know one solid truth. Everything about this new world is a lie.

I’m going to infiltrate their ranks—dismantle their kingdom—take them down until they all vanish, evaporate like smoke from the planet, erase any memory of them as if they had never happened.

Or I’ll die trying.

And I just might.

Hope you enjoyed!

Thoughts on the cover? I'd love to hear!

Character interviews, news, and teasers...

(From Facebook with love! ;)

Welcome back to the Tuesday Tease! First, character interviews and all kinds of cool stuff are happening at Supa Gurl Books this week, so please go over and visit, follow her blog, and comment because she is beyond awesome! (Click here for LINK.)

And guess what??? I penned ‘THE END’ of Book 7!
It sure would be nice if I had a title to go along with it. I’m down to two but heavily leaning towards one so maybe I’ll do a title and mock cover reveal soon.

Nevertheless, book 8 is already outlining itself, and I’m toying with the idea of 3 POVs Skyla, Logan and Gage. As for Marshall, well, we pretty much all know what’s on his mind. (Although that might make for several interesting chapters.) And for sure I wouldn’t count him out in the race for Skyla’s heart. ←Really.

TV series news: I’ve been invited to Fox studios to talk CLESTRA in just a few short weeks! I’m super excited and totally anxious, but I’m trying to ignore my nerves for now. I’ve put in a request to have a twenty-four pack of Dr. Pepper and Matthew McConaughey waiting for me when I arrive. Do you think it’s too soon?

I jest.

Honest to God, my big plan involves wearing hawt yet comfortable shoes and keeping my mouth shut so they might invite me back. I’m just hoping the error of my home haircut would have grown out by then.

Anyway, in other news, I’m full throttle all over EPHEMERAL this month because, well, it’s time to push that baby out the door. So there’s that.

Hope you enjoy the teasers!

EPHEMERAL (The Countenance)

*(Laken and Wesley)

“It’s because we’re not Celestras.” I dig my hands into my pockets. I want to lay it on thick and call him out on the fact Celestra is obviously the most powerful. I have the distinct feeling the reason their numbers are so low is because the Counts have arranged for that very thing. A genocide is underway no thanks to their vampire-like efforts and it sounds like it’s a pretty exhaustive effort—and that Wes would be an active participant makes me want to vomit all over his shiny brown shoes.

Celestra Series Book 7

*(Skyla and Ellis)

“See that necklace she’s wearing?” The giant wicked rose lets off a necrotic flicker of light as if winking in our direction—knowing Marshall it probably is. “It’s basic training for Fems. They invade her mind and turn it into a big gelatinous puddle of crap.”

“That’s effing sick,” Ellis recoils at my masterful descriptive.

“I know this because I swallowed it once and it really effed with my mind.” I borrow his doctored expletive to prove my point. “You were in my hallucination. You were an ox with a body of a man. You were kind of hot if I don’t say so myself.”

“Cool,” Ellis expands his chest to annunciate said hotness.

*(Skyla and Marshall)

“I must leave. Shall I grace you with my lips? I believe Jock Strap is witnessing this encounter with great interest. Oddly, he’s replaying our resplendent exchange of passion, casting himself as the lead in a rather pornographic display of affection. I doubt we'd be so crude, and in this, a public establishment.” Marshall glides into a wicked grin.

*(Skyla and Gage)

“About last night,” his hot breath warms my bare shoulder. I’m suddenly regretting wearing nothing but a tiny bikini top and cutoffs. I wish I could wrap myself in a blanket around Gage. I never want him to look at me.

“It won’t happen again.” I wanted to tell him that I would have done that with any boy that happened to be in my room—that he wasn’t special, that he never was. But that’s one lie I don’t think I could pull off. When all is said and done, and I look back on my life, Gage Oliver will have been my biggest heartache.

He presses up from behind and warms me with his body. His cologne enwreathes me, makes me ache to touch him.
“I was sort of hoping it would,” he blows it hot in my ear.

*(Skyla and Logan)

I brush the pads of my fingers along his jaw. I can easily spend an eternity like this with Logan in his perfect dreams. Well, they’re usually perfect. Tonight they’re a bit scattered and x-rated in nature.

“Are all your dreams this explicit?” I hold back a laugh while reeling him in by the lip of his jeans.

“Mostly.” He breathes into my neck and dots a trail of kisses up to my ear.

“I bet you look forward to this every single night.”

“What I look forward to,” he pauses, grazing over my earlobe with his teeth, “is turning this into reality—with you—every single night.”

Character interviews, deleted scenes, and even a few short scenes in the boys POV (point of view) will all be taking place this week over at Supa Gurls Blog --don't miss!

EXPEL release date, March 22!

(From facebook with love ;)

Welcome to another Tuesday Tease!!!
~Announcement~!
EXPEL will officially be released for sale on Thursday, March 22 for Kindle and Nook!!!
I know, its kind of far, right? Secretly, I was hoping for this Saturday but one of my betas, the one I happen to be married to, requested a little more time to comb through it—so I thought I would accommodate him. ;)
I then wanted to release it next Tuesday, which is the 20th but horror of all horrors, I've actually agreed to do a radio interview. Me, the girl who doesn't say more than ten words all day is going to try to speak for an hour. Rest assured, things will end badly. I may or may not put up a link after the fact. We shall see.  Worse comes to worse I can just pick up EXPEL and start reading, God knows that will easily make sixty minutes evaporate into thin air. Of course, that would probably just be the first few chapters, EXPEL is one big puppy.
That being said, there are only two more teasers for EXPEL so enjoy!
EPHEMERAL (The Countenance Book 1)
* (Laken and Cooper) "What's that suppose to mean?""It means the Counts like to control everything—right down to who you're with."

EXPEL (Celestra Series Book 6)(I don't know if I've used these before but I think not. Sorry—busy with edits!)
*(Skyla and…)"I was just thinking about you." There is not one note of anger, or sarcasm in his tone as he settles his thoughtful gaze over me. Those hungry eyes burn for me, and it takes everything in me not to bow in his presence.
*(Skyla and …)I let him come to me with his lips, cover me with the hot of his mouth and indulge in a kiss that ignores the constraints of age and time—it spells out love and forever much better than any careless sentiment that I could ever utter.
*(Marshall to Skyla)"My love blooms in triplicate each day for you Skyla. I've never felt so charged, so alive for another my entire existence."
(Skyla and…)My stomach swims with the rhythm of his voice. I pull him in and share a deep kiss that has the power to ignite the two of us into a Molotov worthy explosion. There's something more profound than lust here, something stronger than puppy love or infatuation. We sit for a small eternity fogging up the windows with the heat from our desire.
 Hope you enjoyed the teasers!

EXPEL cover reveal!!!

I thought I'd share the cover with you guys! I may tweak it a little but for the most part its finished. I'll also be posting the cover for EPHEMERAL (The Countenance Book 1) hopefully Tuesday. Since I have no major announcements or even a hard release date for EXPEL (which I should have super soon.) I'll leave you with a few facts about EXPEL:

Facts;

*EXPEL is the longest book I have ever written. I fear letting the word count out of the bag so I'll hold that close to the vest for now.

*I wrote two sentences in the middle of the book that would have given away the ending to the entire series but I decided to delete them because you guys are soooo good at decoding what I say.

*I haven't divulged a single plot line through the teasers and that my friends is a miracle considering there are more teasers for EXPEL than any other book.

*The death toll rises by two.

*EXPEL was almost split into two books. I decided against it because there were no natural endings to the storylines in the middle of the book. But, when it goes to paperback, the odds are good (not certain)  that it will be split in two, EXPEL part 1 and EXPEL part 2.

*A part of the reason EXPEL is so long is because I never wanted to leave.

I really can't wait to share EXPEL with you guys! I always say that but I always mean it. ;)

Let me know what you think of the cover or what your thoughts are on EXPEL in general!

Just FYI I'll be posting a character interview soon for a new series. If she does well I might just let my characters have run of the blog once in a while. I'm sure Marshall will have a thing or two to say. Any character interview requests?

Sealed with a kiss...

The Paranormal Plumes were kind enough to take me under their wing, and in honor of Valentine's Day they've put together a blog hop that dares to kiss and tell about our first meaningful pucker.
Kiss and tell? Me? Always.
The setting was simple, high school, senior year. Fourth period. Mrs. Johnson's English class.
I sat on the girl's side of the room, (we had inadvertently self segregated by gender and only later did I find out that the boys were enjoying the peek-a-boo view our miniskirts afforded, but that's not my story to tell.) The only view I enjoyed was of a brown-eyed boy with lashes that could touch me from all the way across the room. A smile that had the power to slay females for a ten-mile radius and often did. And, a personality that demanded your attention, held onto you and followed you into your dreams. The best part was, all of those great attributes were rolled into one person. And he was the star football player. Incredible, I know.
It was torment only having him in one class. Sure, I got to see him perform on the field, even cheered from the bleachers but so did everyone else. To him I was just another face in the crowd.
Every day I grew a little bolder and smiled a little longer in his direction. I let our gaze fall naturally, then let it linger until my cheeks burned and I had to look away. Weeks, grew into months and we progressed to polite hellos in between classes. At least he knew I was alive, but deep down inside I wasn't happy with that. I wanted more. I wanted all of him.
Prom rolled around and I burned to ask him. I wanted to extend the invite and finally declare my insane obsession with him, well, maybe at least the fact I was interested, but the moment came and went. I ended up going to prom with a friend who asked me and the boy I really wanted, the high school football star, stayed home instead.
School was wrapping up. Our senior year was done. Two days until graduation and Mrs. Johnson let us sign yearbooks the entire class.
I spent the entire hour anxiously waiting for him to cross my path, but we artfully avoided one another and the hour passed.
That night, in a fit of frustration I swore to myself I was going to exchange yearbooks with him the next day. I stayed up all night trying to think up the perfect thing to say to the boy I spent my entire senior year worshiping from afar. I made my friends read through a dozen prospective entries to help me narrow down just the right sentiment. It went something like; I hope we can K.I.T this summer. I would really like to get to know you better! #555-callme  (Yes, at the end of the day brevity won out.)
The bell rang and it was fourth period, our very last day in Mrs. Johnson's English class. The hour began to sift by at an alarming rate and five minutes before the bell let out I walked bravely over. OK, well, not so bravely, because I was sweating and red-faced and I think I may have tripped in the process, but that's beside the point. We exchanged yearbooks.
I thought maybe I'd hear the hallelujah choir, but instead we feverishly wrote our inscriptions and handed back our books just as the bell rang.
"Thank you," I said.
He smiled and nodded. He could rule an empire with that smile.
I tore into the girl's bathroom and whipped open the yearbook. It read, "Too bad we didn't get to know each other better, you seem like a really cool girl. Maybe we can get together over the summer. K.I.T. #555-callme"
He said the exact same thing! Well, OK, not that same thing, but still!!!
Lunch rolled around. I went out to the courtyard and he waved me down, started heading in my direction.
"Hey," he gave a bashful smile, "so, you would be interested in going out with me?" He seemed unsure.
"Yes!" It may or may not have come out in one lusty cry akin to someone who had just won the lottery.
Without warning he leaned in and planted the softest, most memorable kiss that I had ever experienced before or after. I let it linger like all of those stolen glances we had exchanged so many times before.
I pulled back, shocked and slightly more than elated by his bold gesture.
"Oh, I'm sorry," I bumbled like an idiot. "I'm not that good." I confessed as we finally pulled away. (Yes, that was my stupid confession to the denizen of the football field that graced me with his lips, but I digress).
"It's OK," he wrapped an arm around my waist like I was his girlfriend, right there in the quad in front of God and all of the cheerleaders-- my girlfriends geeking out in the back. "We have the rest of our lives to get it right."
I thought that was a bold sentiment when he said it. But you know what? He was right.
We married while we were still in college.
Well there it is, my first meaningful kiss.
Please, don't be a stranger, tell me all about yours.I really do want to know.
Join Carol and Adam Kuntz tomorrow for the next stop on the Paranormal Plume's blog hop.http://cakunz.blogspot.com/
