I’m not sure what exactly in this book makes it so fantastic but I do think that it is a refreshing change from other books. This is the first book I’ve read by Savannah Smythe and going by this wonderful book, I will definitely read more of her work in the future. The flow, pace and characters of the book were excellent and easy to follow. It was also easy to suspend my disbelief when I needed to.
I know many people will cringe when I make this comparison but it is completely true.In my mind this is the MM version of a Mills and Boon novel, reminding me of stories by Melanie Milburne and Carol Marinelli I read in the past. The story is about Robin Martyn, born and raised in London and from a wealthy family, he never really got over his father’s suicide. Only after a lot of effort did he ever find out that his father was gay and his mother (a complete bitch) swept the truth and the scandal under the proverbial rug.He is the middle of five siblings though his eldest brother no longer spoke to the family and his youngest sister has been groomed to be a carbon copy of their horrible mother. Robin is now 35 and has angered everyone in the family, except his twin sister, Geri, for getting a divorce. This is where we get a lot of action from the thoroughly spoilt and bitchy youngest sister. A chance encounter with Lexington Black, a New York businessman, changes his life though. The revelations that he, like his father, is gay the main point to all of this. The plot is very simple and the blurb provides all the necessary details. But one thing that the blurb does allude to is a secret that could damage Robin and Lex’s relationship before it really starts. Honestly, I figured it out as soon as there was the slightest hint of what the secret could be. However, when all hell did break loose, I thoroughly enjoyed how it was dealt with. I like that Robin didn’t just decide to forgive Lex. Most of all, I liked that we got to see more of Lex’s humanity. The story is almost entirely from Robin’s POV (though he does not narrate it). However, Lex also has his say, which he does narrate. I like that there was a clear distinction between the two POVs and I also loved that I got to get more into Lex’s head this way. There is more to him than a wealthy businessman who would do anything to get the man he wants in his bed. He is an immediately likable character and his personal POVs once more make him more human.Thoroughly enjoyable, if you like the whole wealthy businessman taking the lover he wants through any means necessary, this is your thing. There is an element of fairytale romance with a healthy injection of reality when it comes to ending.I loved this so much I think I would read it again sometime!* I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review throughhttps://mmgoodbookreviews.wordpress.com *

My Boyfriend Is A Dog - New short story

Picture It's finally out!  I wrote this as an interim before I begin my companion book to Lexington Black, and it took on a bit of a life of its own.

Synopsis

All I ever wanted was a man to have and to hold. What I have is Angelo, an irritating husky who thinks he's a wolf, and suffers from delusions about being my mate.

I didn't invite him to live with me. He just moved in. I can deal with that, but not when he does everything he can to screw up my love life. That just isn't acceptable.

In the meantime, I'm having hot and heavy dreams about my next door neighbour, the sexy, straight dude who won't let me near him. These dreams are so scorching, I can hardly think straight.

I really need to get laid...

But Angelo is one jealous puppy, and it isn't until he reveals his true identity that I will discover why.

Then will my dreams add up to the reality?

A short, fun and smutty tail of love, lust and dog hair...

An Excerpt

Well, it could have been worse. I could have been in a gutter somewhere, sodden in cheap vodka. But no, I was talking to a wise-cracking wolf with a knowledge of classic films. And he was a mighty fine wolf at that. If I were a wolf, I’d see myself going for that. Can wolves be gay?

Yes, they can.

‘Don’t do that,’ I said warningly. ‘Those are my private thoughts. You’re not allowed in my head unless I let you.’

It doesn’t work like that. I’m your mate, so I know what you’re thinking, and you know what I’m thinking. Our bond is already unbreakable.

I blinked. ‘Sorry?’

He shifted from one paw to another and back again. It’s complicated.

I was trying to digest what he had said. His mate? When did that happen? Was I violated in my sleep or something?

I didn’t violate you. Nothing has happened between us yet. Not without your consent. Some Alphas exercise their right whether their mate is willing or not. I wouldn’t do that. I will look after my mate.

He stared almost defiantly down at me before putting his muzzle to my neck. I held my breath, sure he was going to take a chunk out of it but instead he sniffed deeply, his eyes closing in pleasure.

You smell so good, my little mate.

‘Uh yeah? I mean, if you want to be friends, that’s fine. I can live with that …’

Mate, he said again, more insistently.

‘Okaaay, do I have a say in this? I mean, we’ve just met and I don’t put out on a first date. Hell, I don’t even know if I fancy you. There’s a law against inter-species doing the nasty, you know. I don’t know if it’s the same where you come from….’

A mighty roar rent the air above me. All I could see was teeth, tongue and long, dark gullet. Having duly frightened the shit out of me, he stood back and glared, pinning me to the furs with his stare, almost as if challenging me to say something else.

I sat up and shuffled away from him, pressing my back against the wall.

‘Look, I get what you’re saying, but I don’t do dogs, man. I just don’t. If you want that kind of game, go down South. You’re a nice doggie …’

He growled and stepped forward.

‘Okay, you’re a fucking good-looking canine, I give you that, but I don’t…. I couldn’t …. No way in hell,’ I finished firmly.

His shoulders heaved as he sighed deeply.

So you’re straight? There must be some mistake. I…

‘It’s not about being straight! It’s about being human! You dog, me human equals no action! Who’s the dense one now?’

You don’t need to shout.

‘Yes, I do! I’m in a cave with a talking wolf who isn’t taking no for an answer! Hell yes, I’m entitled to shout!’ My head was spinning. I had to get out of there before insanity took over completely. I jumped to my feet and ran towards the light at the entrance of the cave.

‘Woah!’ I screeched to a halt just before the cliff plummeted at least 300 feet to the forest below. The wolf was behind me, his jaws on my wrist. He tugged me back from the edge.

I’ll take you home, he said, just before I blacked out again.

******

I dreamed. I was standing next to the humungous black beast who had rescued me. Somehow I had transformed into dainty silver wolf, my fur gleaming in the moonlight.  I didn’t wonder why I had taken this form.  I was dreaming, so it made perfect sense.

Ready?

You bet.

We began to run through the forest. It was the most exhilarating feeling as the ground fell away under our feet. We covered great distances without tiring, never putting a foot wrong. I felt as if I could have run forever, with the cool wind gently ruffling my fur and the sense of empowerment that grew with every step.

As we approached the town of Smokey Mountain, he melted into the undergrowth.  I was left standing in the middle of the deserted road, human again, dazed and lonely.

As I neared my apartment, a man stepped out of the shadows. And what a man! The moon cast pale light over his face. He had long black hair, a smoothly-shaven, strong jaw and arresting amber eyes. His shapely lips quirked up in a small smile as he saw my confusion.

‘Hello,’ he whispered, and pressed those lovingly-crafted lips to mine.

He led me back to my room and tenderly undressed me. He looked just like Jet, my hot as hell neighbour, the one I had been having erotic thoughts about for weeks. His fingers trailed down my hip and feathered between my thighs. I could feel something warm, hard and very large pressed against my other hip. Something about the knowing passage of his fingertips had me sprung in seconds.

He pushed me back against the mattress and kissed all down my body, punctuating each nipple with a sly flick of his tongue. Then down again, following that treasure trail to the well of my navel and drinking from it. My breath was ragged by that point, the tip of my cock poised for the feel of that hot tongue. Please, please, I was thinking to myself, as he cruelly made me wait.

I sobbed out loud as I felt the pressure of his lips, easing over the swollen head. Then I was fully enclosed inside that hot, wet, tight cave, biting my lip to stop the groans that would surely have propelled me out of these delightful dream. As his lips glided slowly and skilfully up and down my shaft, I undulated my hips in time to that seductive motion.  I was panting, gasping, drooling with lascivious pleasure, not wanting the delicious attention to end. The orgasm was like a series of swollen, crashing waves, as he held me close against him, feeling every pulse as if it were his own.

Book Review: Elliot: His Summer Of Love, by SA Collins

Elliot: His Summer of Love (Angels of Mercy #1) Elliot: His Summer of Love by SA Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I won't bore you with a precis of the book. That is what the blurb is for, and every author sweats blood trying to get it right. So read that instead.

What I will say is that you won't forget Elliot in a hurry. He's the snarky gay high school kid, fiercely intelligent and articulate, who falls for the school jock, delectable Marco Sforza, but anyone expecting a full-on cute gay romance might as well give up here. This is a minutely detailed character study of a young man who isn't afraid to own his sexuality, but watches how everyone else acts with a gimlet eye, peering alluringly out of his Gothic bangs. At first his voice seems to be that of a man much older than he. Among the totally convincing teen speak are some acerbic observations about how gay men are treated in America, and by their own families. But think about it. The concept of the articulate teenager shouldn't be totally alien - Catcher In The Rye anyone?

I'm not suggesting Elliot is in anyway like Holden Caulfield. He is an engaging, funny, sensitive boy that I challenge you not to want to hug IMMEDIATELY. The author's writing is deceptively easy to read, with a literary, lyrical style. His depictions of small-town American life and school are timeless. Ditch the modern day technology and it could have been written in any decade. It oozes Americana without being twee, and charts the highly-charged relationship between Elliot and his border-line obsessed boyfriend with deft affection and accuracy.

The book also possesses other engaging characters, more than cyphers, who add colour and relief when the Elliot/Marco story needs to be balanced out. I loved Elliot's sympathetic but mystified mom and Marco's group of hangers-on. The dialogue is witty and totally convincing.

And now the elephant in the room - the CLIFFHANGER - I say stop bitching about it. If you've read all the way through this chunky read, it means you've already committed to finding out more about Marco and Elliot. By then, they will have wedged themselves firmly in your consciousness. Have faith and stick with it. This author knows his stuff, and I have every confidence that his next book will be just as vivid and stimulating as this one.

Excerpt Time Again - Because I'm Nice Like That

Picture From the forthcoming short, My Boyfriend Is A Dog, the following excerpt (warning: it does get very hot...)

BTW, the book does NOT contain bestiality!  Why did I write it?  For fun, of course!  I see it as taking the shifter genre and stomping all over it...

To be published on 1st May 2015.

A muzzle pushed between my legs.

Not the junk, I pleaded silently.  If you’re going to kill me, then fucking kill me, but leave my cock and balls intact.

The sniffing continued, became more insistent.  It was discomforting.  Fuck, it felt awkward.  I was monumentally relieved when the animal rolled me over again, but the relief was short-lived.  I couldn’t help whimpering as I felt its enormous jaws clamp around my waist.

And now I die, I thought.

You’re not going to die.

Well, excuse me, but I think I fucking well am.

You’re not.

The capacity of human beings for resilience and hope never ceased to amaze me.  The dark voice in my head seemed to come from deep within, but I wasn’t fooled.  We were moving through the forest, far away from the path.  If I ever escaped, there was no way of knowing how to get out of the vast forest and back to my New Hampshire home.  I could wander around for years and eventually die of starvation.

Either way, I was fucked, but I was too hideously uncomfortable to think much else, dangling like an overcooked noodle in the creature’s mouth.  One of its incisors was sticking into my rib cage.  I squirmed, trying to relieve the pressure.

Keep still.

It’s uncomfortable, I griped silently.  No doubt better than the disembowelling I was in for, but uncomfortable nonetheless.  I wriggled again, the pain in my ribs becoming acute.

Keep still, goddamnit!

Fuck you, I retorted to my inner voice.  It hurts!

I was unceremoniously dumped on the ground.  Immediately, pain flared through my nose and it started to bleed.

Great, now the snack has added seasoning, I thought as my nose throbbed and burned, but there was an unexpected opportunity.  I threw my body sideways and rolled out of reach, determined to make another bid for freedom.

Oh no, you don’t.  The paw batted me almost playfully back to my original position, on my front, face in the undergrowth.  Then he (I assumed it was a he as it sounded like one) picked me up again, a lot more carefully this time, and we continued on our way.

Nothing made sense.  Where were we going and why the hell did I think I was talking to this creature?  The wind rushed past my head as he picked up his pace.  Soon we were hurtling through the forest to an uncertain future.  I opened my eyes and moaned as I saw the ground rushing past.  The motion had me spewing my guts in seconds.  I never had been good on rollercoasters, I thought, the moment before I passed out.

Sometime later, I was aware of a moist warmth over my face, licking my wounds, cleaning the blood, vomit and dirt away.  I felt cosseted and safe.  If this was death, I could take it.

Pain spiked like a nail being driven through my face.  My nose began to throb again as I brought up my hands to stop whatever it was from licking at it.

‘Ow!  Ow, Jeez, get off!’

Stop complaining.  It’ll be better in a minute.

Another long, slow lick and the pain disappeared as suddenly as it had come.

See? You just need to trust me.

I carefully touched my injured nose.  Thankfully it was still there, as large and prominent as ever, but it did not hurt at all.  How could that be, I thought as I drifted away again, lulled into sleep by the soporific sound of deep, steady breathing.

******

I was dreaming that someone was licking my balls.  It was the most fantastic sensation.  I stretched out and squirmed with pleasure, weakened by the strength of the hard-on slapping against my stomach.  The licking moved up my shaft and I gasped, biting my lip as the tongue swirled around the tip.  I jerked upwards, trying to encourage the unseen mouth to enclose me completely but it kept the same frustrating motion, the tongue wrapping around the stalk of my cock.

Suck me, I whimpered in my dream.  I was immersed in pleasure, greedy and wanting, knowing it was a dream but somehow it felt so real.  The mouth eased over the swollen head of my cock and travelled down, down all the way to the base, muscles squeezing and palpating my shaft into impossible hardness.  As my balls tightened, I knew I was about to wake just as the inevitable happened, but this time, it didn’t.  I panted and groaned, fucking the stranger’s mouth, fizzing like a shaken Coke bottle just as the top is about to be removed.  The release was heart-felt and satisfying, the pulsing rippling down my cock and into the stranger’s mouth.  He kept sucking on me until I was spent, wringing every last drop of come out of me.

‘Thank you,’ I murmured as I sank back down into heavenly sleep.

You’re welcome, a deep voice growled.
