Review - Too Close for Comfort by Lynne Marshall

BlurbJoy Waltham is stressed out. Before she can expand her business empire, she needs her ex-husband's signature dissolving his silent partnership. A trip to Maine to find her ex, get the signature, and chill out seems ideal. But instead of relaxing, Joy winds up in the middle of a mystery--and wrapped in the overprotective arms of Comfort's chief of police--her ex-husband.
After retiring from LAPD, Paul Donovan took charge of tiny Comfort's police department. Bored senseless, he's still not ready for chaos in the form of his ex-wife shaking up his life. Joy arrives just in time to meddle in his investigation of a string of accidental deaths. Now forced to work together, Joy and Paul confront some unexpected challenges.

It's emotional deja vu as they dig through their thorny past, reawaken old sexual attraction, and face the fact they never stopped loving each other.

My Review -

This is another great read from an author who continues to surprise me. TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT is a cozy mystery woven together with a tender love story. As I’ve come to expect, Ms. Marshall’s characters come across as real, fleshed out people. They are your neighbors and your friends. Their emotions and personal struggles are believable. As in her earlier work, ONE FOR THE ROAD, Ms. Marshall has done the romance world a favor by focusing on an older generation. Joy and Paul have been there – done that. Their twenty-something years of marriage ended in divorce, but they soon find that a piece of paper doesn’t make a divorce any more than it does a marriage.Ms. Marshall does a fabulous job with the rebirth of the romance that brought these two together in the first place. If there’s any fault to be found in this story, it’s the way the heroine stumbles and bumbles her way into her ex-husband’s business. I was reminded of a clueless version of Jessica Fletcher of Murder She Wrotefame, complete with a Cabot Cove-ish setting. I can forgive the heroine’s behavior because it becomes apparent that this trait was part of what made her attractive to the hero when they first met – before life’s struggles created a wedge between them.Overall, I give TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT four stars. I enjoyed watching Joy and Paul rediscover what made them fall in love in the first place and come to terms with the realities that forced them apart.

Thursday Thirteen - What I learned at Readers and 'ritas

I spent last weekend in Texas with a couple hundred of my closest friends. Here is what I learned from the experience - in no particular order.
1.      Don’t sweat in the airport or you’re likely to be surrounded by TSA agents and thoroughly searched. I include this as a word of warning to menopausal travelers – especially if you must run to catch your plane. And no, this did not happen to me personally, but to a friend. True story. Pinky swear.2.      What happens at conference doesn't necessarily stay at conference. Just ask Jade Lee.3.      There are other people out there besides me who can read a book in a day – and do…often.4.      Everything tastes good with nacho cheese sauce ladled over it.5.      Black cherry flavored Mike’s Hard Lemonade is the BEST.6.      Romance readers are my people.7.      Miss Scarlet did it in the ballroom with a candlestick.8.      It’s impossible to turn down a free book.9.      If every ticket in the drawing had my name on it, somehow, I still wouldn't win the prize. *sigh*10.  Don’t put away your costume until after Readers and ‘ritas in November11.  Elvis is alive and well.12.  The only inoperable ice machine in the hotel is on your floor. Always.13.  You can eat dessert twice – or more – in one day.

Thursday Thirteen

Welcome to my very first Thursday Thirteen! Since we recently changed our clocks back to Standard Time, here are my 13 thoughts on 'Falling Back'.

1. Why did I not notice half the light bulbs in my house were out until it was dark at five p.m.?

2. I'm going to have to get some thicker curtains for my bedroom. Either that or nail a sheet of plywood over the windows until Spring.

3. I wish I could reset my dog's internal clock.

4. I wish I could reset the clock in my car.

5. How many effing clocks are there in this house?

6. I want lunch, and they're still serving breakfast. The sun has been up for twelve hours already! Move on!

7. There's an advantage to eating dinner at five o'clock. Those early bird specials are fabulous!

8. Getting home before dark is no longer an option so quit driving as if the vampires are going to get you if you don't.

9. The vampires must love this! I wonder if they like the early bird specials too?

10. People pushing shopping carts in dark parking lots are dangerous.

11. Why aren't parking lot lights activated by darkness like street lights?

12. Why do I feel like I'm shopping in a 24 hour WalMart?

13. If I sleep until noon, I'll miss 3/4 of the day. Oh yeah - see #2. Not going to happen.

Sneak a Peek Sunday

Book 4 in the Lothario Series
Ryan froze with his lips against the pulse in Candace’s neck. His erection surged with new vigor against her stomach. Why couldn't his wife ask for something easy for their anniversary? Something like diamonds, a villa in France, hell, even an expedition to the North Pole. The image in his brain coalesced, and he knew he would give her whatever she wanted.            “You want me to tie you up?” he asked as soon as he found his voice.            “Don’t even try to tell me it doesn’t excite you.” Candace wiggled her soft mound against his cock. “I felt that.”

Sneak A Peek Sunday

Here's a peek inside book one in the Mustangs Baseball series - Inside Heat.Jeff and Jason Holder are trying to convince Megan to say yes to the threesome they proposed earlier. Would you say yes?
“Tomorrow, think of us. Imagine how it will feel to take both of us inside you at the same time,” Jason said as Jeff inserted another finger and began to work her tight muscles. “I can’t wait to fuck your ass, and your pussy. I want all of you. We want all of you,” Jason said as Jeff took her clit between his teeth and tugged.
