Lester K. Spence is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Africana studies at Johns Hopkins University known for his academic critiques of neoliberalism and his media commentary on race, urban politics, and police violence. He was previously Assistant Professor of Political Science at Washington University, St. Louis. His media appearances and writings include Dissent, NPR, C-SPAN, New York Times, The Mark Steiner Show, Baltimore City Paper, and many others.

Raised in Inkster, Spence holds both a BA and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. He has lived in Baltimore since 2005 and is a father of five.
