Antibullying: It's Elementary Ya'll

As someone who was a victim of bullying from middle school to high school I'm very aware of it in all four of my children. It really dictated how I raised my children. My sons are very good at handling their own school issues. My girls are much younger and my oldest is 11. She is nothing like me in terms of personality and I love that about her. She kind, compassionate, and much more forgiving. It's a talent I try to nurture in her.And I'm glad that her school has provided a peer group to arm her with skills to deal with bullies and situations as they arise to help her as she prepares for middle school.
What do you see being done in your community at the elementary and middle school level?

Is it about the Journey or the Destination

After starting my business in October of 2011 I have felt like I’m on a sail boat in a totally unknown sea with only a very basic knowledge of how to man this ship. Along the way I’ve figured out the basics, enough to get me by. In other areas I’ve excelled more because I have complimentary experience to drawl from.
However, along the way I’ve come across some other captains and crews. Some with really really big yachts, others in rowboats, and some in boats equivalent to my own. Only they have a crew and some even a fleet of other ships that all match. As I met these other entrepreneurs or captains if you will I’ve been mentored. I’ve been befriended. And some have kept me distracted while their crew ripped my sails. Nevertheless, sails can be mended.
Now on the one year anniversary of my launch in 2011 I found my Tom Tom! What is my Tom Tom? He is my “Big Idea” as Melanie Benson Strick would call it. It’s a regular coping skill of mine to create order around me. A way of feeling in control when there areas that are out of my realm of control but may still affect me. For example, when we were almost destitute after the real estate crash I organize my house, my bills, my grocery list. You name it. If I had access or anyway to have order in my home I did it.
With that said it’s natural I would have skills on how to create a business plan. Nevertheless, it’s often times hard to implement skills for our own benefit that we so easily help others with.
But now I’m on the right track.
Do I have a business plan…technically no. (it’s not on paper)
But it is in my head. And I did put it on a board once…(And my dauthers erased it one day so they could play school in my office.)
It really doesn’t matter if you ask me. Because I know where I’m going. How I get there is part of the fun.
What about you? Do you have a plan for your Big Idea?

I have Cleanorexia

With that in mind I have unprofessionally diagnosed myself with Cleanorexia. For the past five years I’ve felt like the queen on a chess board and prosperity and trials are the ones moving the pieces. From financial failure, to challenges with my children, to marital issues, health and wellness occurrences, my family and I have endured what I imagine many people have in recent months and years.
When those times began I started cleaning, organizing, selling anything we didn’t need, couponing, making my own laundry detergent. You name it. If I could do whatever made me feel productive, prepared, or in control I did it. Last night after having several hours of an amazing and empowering networking event I came home to my husband saying these words, “I may not have a job as of 12/1/12.”
Talk about bringing you down!
We prayed. We talked. And admittedly it’s an area we’ve been to before. Multiple times.
After a night of anxiety and little to no sleep for either of us we got up, had scripture and prayer with our family, got them ready and out the door for school, and both worked.
Since I work from home I found myself looking around and thinking I need to vacuum, make up another 6 months worth of detergent, check the paper for the coupon deals this coming week, make beds, dust, on top of the follow ups I need to do, the meeting I have at 11:30, the books I need to write and so on and so forth.
Those desires to clean and to just keep moving were familiar. Nevertheless it has been a while since I felt them. Gratefully I recognized them for what they are and I admit I’ll most likely give in and clean some but I will still keep my bearing and press forward with joy and thanksgiving.
What do you do to feel in control when chaos erupts? Are you an eater ? A runner? Do get lost in a novel? Do tell.

Belle Approved: We got them good vibrations

Product/Service/Business Name: Mark Romero Music
Product/Service/Business Use: Through his music and proprietary personal & professional development tools, Mark Romero delivers a proven technology that can support anyone in achieving higher levels of success, improved health and increased productivity.
Mark Romero’s unique interactive musical systems will immediately empower listeners to achieve new levels of success by enhancing their mental capabilities and focus while dramatically reducing stress.
How it started: At the end of September I personally met Mark Romero through a mutual friend at the California Women’s Conference. While there he shared how he found through the study of vibrations and energy people can be more grounded, centered, and stress free. These vibrations are delivered through his music. Then our mutual friend explained how her mother, who’d had Alzheimer’s was visibly better when she played Mark’s music.
The Test: Mark proved his theory to me by having me stand with my feet shoulder length apart and my arms out. He then instructed me to try and not let him tip me over. I’m a big girl and he tipped me over like a feather on the breeze. Then he played his music from his cell phone. Although I couldn’t hear the music the vibrations were what we were after. I stood feet shoulder length apart and arms out again. Mark then tried to tip me over and I would not budge. It was like trying to untie cement shoes the mob had poured.
After this experience, I went home and immediately bought one of his CD downloads. Suenous Infinitos features a fusion of Rock rhythms. incredible fusion Latin, Jazz and
Since purchasing and regularly playing his music I can tell a great change in my stress levels and focus while working. And the effect lasts all day. Not to mention I’m just in a better freaking mood. My next purchase is going to be one of his and his wife, Dr. Lara’s, transformational units. The one about achieving your ideal weight. I’ll admit that while Mark Romero’s music isn’t your typical iTunes pricing it’s definitely not your regular top 40 music either. This is the stuff that joy springs from and frankly $20 was extremely reasonable in this Belle’s opinion.

Melancholy Mompreneur Moves Day 1
Dear friends
My life is blessed with a crap load of busy. I feel guilty about using the bathroom much less making time to workout.
But I'm committing to moving and being active everyday! I've actually worked out 2xs at a YMCA class that almost killed me.
But I've decided to just move. That's something I can do right?!
Hell yeah!
So today I worked out for 17 min on the treadmill.
What have you done today?

The Punking Has Ended

First of all I’m sorry I’ve been busy chasing fairy tale promises and doing work for discounted rates like a punk. It’s caused areas like my blogs to slip.
The punking is done.
While everything hasn’t been all drama and wasted time this post is a semi rant which guess what I can do because this here is my space and I’ll do what I want to do.
So here are some painful and expensive lessons I’ve learned this summer the hard way. · Just because it’s a good cause doesn’t mean you should compromise protocol.Contracts need to always be negotiated, signed, and agreed upon before any work is done. · Suggested potential partnerships don’t mean squat. Don’t work on a project under the assumption that if you do this then you’ll get this “potential other job.” Focus on what the present responsibility is and stick to it. · Don’t lose focus of the job you’re being paid to do.With that said be sure to clearly in writing say “I’m going to do this for this amount.” I don’t care if it’s in the form of a text, emailed via your cell phone that is lacking a full Qwerty keyboard, or recorded via that nifty recording app. You make dang sure that it’s understood between both parts what services are being given and what the payment for such services are. · Investments can leave you cash poor. I am all for bartering and trade. But eventually those need to generate an income because frankly you can’t give eBooks to the local Walmart to pay for your groceries. So that’s just a little run down of the recent lessons learned the hard way by the always bullheaded belle.
What about ya’ll? Are you capable of learning from others mistakes or are you like me? Have you ever felt Punk'd?

The Queen of Country Compassion

On Friday July 20, 2012 the “Queen of Country Music” Kitty Wells will be buried in a sure to be well attended funeral. Only there will be those that won’t be able to make it. A few that knew her as more than a “feminist country music godmother to Britney Spears” , those that knew her before she was even a Honky Tonk Angel. To them she was known as “Meryl.”
How do I know this information? Who are these people that referred to the Queen with such a different name? We are her family. Some would consider us distant. I most certainly am as a third cousin. However, ladies like my great aunt “Rity” (Rita Adams Fitzgerald) and my grandmother known as “Toots” (Wilma Adams Gier) were indeed much closer.
Kitty’s mother (Myrtle Street Deason) known as “Aunt Myrtle” is my great grandmother’s (Elnora Street Adams) known as “Nonnie” sister. (Can you tell my family has a thing with nicknames yet?) Although Nonnie was Kitty’s aunt she was more like a sister to Kitty because of only a May to September birth separating them.
Because my grandparents were more like parents to me in so many ways I was privy to a closer relationship to my “greats” as I call them than most grandchildren would be. Greats being the siblings of my grandparents. And let me tell you with thirteen greats I had plenty to get to know.

Among some of the amazing side effects of knowing my greats is the stories…especially now with Kitty’s passing. Ritty and Toots can’t attend the funeral or visitation because of their own age and health but that doesn’t mean that the mourning isn’t felt. In fact as when anyone in our family passes memories and stories flow like a tap in an Irish pub.

It’s because of those stories and my love for Rity and Toots that I wrote this blog post. If you Google Kitty Wells you only find a brief story of how she started playing guitar at age 14, began singing as a child, and was part of the “Deason Sisters.”
Well there was a whole other side to Kitty that has been buried under what gets the most hits in an article and the amazing accomplishments that she achieved. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that information but people deserve to know just a few of the things I’ve learned.
Like the fact when it rained her family would sit on the porch and just sing. Music created in tune with the melody of rain hitting a tin roof, with hands hitting thighs, booted feet stomping a rhythm picked up and passed from one song to another by a family of mothers, fathers, aunts, sisters, uncles, brothers and cousins fine-tuned by the sharing of their livelihood.
How if Aunt Myrtle or any of her girls had clothes they no longer needed they would always happily hand them down to my grandmother and her eight other siblings.
Then in a time before cell phones and internet when my great grandmother Nonnie would get the money together. She’d ride the bus into Nashville for a visit with Aunt Myrtle. When she arrived she’d call from the station. However, often times Aunt Myrtle would be working with her husband George Deason who moved houses. If that was the case Nonnie would call Kitty and she and Johnny would come and pick her up and take her to Aunt Myrtles.
One of my personal favorites was from Kitty herself. She explained when she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame when they traveled and performed often times her family would be in a one room apartment with their band and all their instruments. In that time because of a lack of connected markets they would have to go from each one and worked hard and tirelessly to create a fan base. Once they were successful they started all over again at another.
There are several other stories I’ve been privy to but I’ll stop here. The point I wanted to share was that Kitty Wells didn’t inherit the crown upon her reputation she earned it. Kitty was genuine. Attributes like compassion, humor, charity, and work ethic were core characteristics of who she was as a person. Traits taught among a large extended family that loved her dearly and will miss her.
Disclaimer: Bri Clark in no way represents that she had a close personal relationship with Kitty Wells or her husband or children. Her connection is to those that were close to Kitty, her mother, and sisters.
