A Sale, A Sale
Once upon a time, a wonderful magazine, an award-winner called Lore, went on hiatus and wasn't heard from again for ten years. Now that it's back, one of the first stories they'll be publishing is my very own "Fairy Gold"*. I knew before I submitted they would buy it. How? Well, I read the following paragraph in their submission guidelines:
"We love well-done genre blending and bending, too, like John W. Campbell, Jr.'s “Who Goes There?,” H.P. Lovecraft’s “At The Mountains of Madness,” Philip K. Dick’s “The King of the Elves,” and C.S. Lewis’s “Space” trilogy. Other authors whose work we enjoy include Jorge Luis Borges, Harlan Ellison, R.E. Howard, M.R. James, Brian McNaughton, Clifford D. Simak, Clark Ashton Smith, and J.R.R. Tolkien."
I'm not claiming to be the equal of the authors above, but I love them all, each and every one. "Fairy Gold", a blend of SF, fantasy and horror, is definitely in the spirit of such works as Brian McNaughton's The Throne of Bones or almost anything by Clark Ashton Smith. I can't wait to see that magazine, and not just for my own tale. By no means.
Oh! And a big shout out to the Bogwitch for really helpful suggestions on this one :)

*Not to be confused with my earlier, grisly Fairy Fort.
