Epub vs Mobi — Which Do You Prefer?
I format my own books, using Vellum, so that I can make them look pretty. Unfortunately, all the pretty gets stripped out when I turn them into Kindle mobi files. Files in epub (Nook, iBooks, and Kobo) keep the pretty formatting.
My husband prefers Kindle and doesn’t miss the fancy formatting. I wondered about you, though. Do you care?
I decided to find out if you care about the pretty formatting enough to choose epub, so…
TA DA!

Victorian Curiosities Began with the Curious Victorians
What were they thinking in Victorian times? Well, when you look at history, it seems like they were thinking “the sky is the limit” when it came to inventions and possibilities. A little like modern times, right? Jules Verne came up with Around the World in 80 Days and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea during this time period.
Victorians were curious about so many things, and both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert supported the curious in areas as diverse as science, history, art, medicine, and eve...

On Corsets
Did you know that corsets began to be used in the Western world regularly in the 1500s (where they were called “whalebone bodies” see Corsets in Context). When I began to do my research into why Miranda (of The Fairy Tale Bride) would prefer not to wear her stays, I thought of a corset as something from Gone With the Wind, meant to cinch in the waist.
Contrary to my then-uninformed opinion, I discovered that corsets (or stays as they were often called) changed as fashion changed. Just like mo...

Queen Victoria’s Proposal
Sometimes when I talk to people who enjoy history, I’m shocked that they believe that women were weak in the past. You and I know better.
This was not. True.
Emphatically. Not. True.
It is true that the laws of the past were often written to blunt a woman’s power over herself. But that is separate from how strong women found a way to find a way to advocate for themselves, despite the obstacles in their way.
Victorian women, especially, had the example of Queen Victoria to guide them as to exa...

Something old, something new

I’m going to my nephew’s wedding this weekend.
My most vivid memory of this young man is from long ago, when he, his brothers, and my two sons were at my parents’ home in Aiken for a visit. Five boys left to their own devices, and what did they do? Make blaster rays from legos and run around the yard shooting at each other. Sigh.
But all those five boys have grown into fine young men. My nephew has a romantic streak — he proposed to his fiancee at the top of th...

Once Upon a Wedding Gigantic, Stupendous News…a little Delayed
Oh my. I’m so late I’m going to dump all the news in this post together: little, big, everything.
Apologies, but travel and a fall by one of my family members delayed my plans.
Remember when I said: You will get the gigantic, stupendousnews on July 20th.
Yes. And it didn’t come.
Why?
Travel issues (some hotels offer wi-fi, if you can get a signal strong enough to log on…which turned out to be a big no for me).
Also, fall of a family member. Family member...
Once Upon a Wedding Gigantic, Stupendous News

I am a procrastinator extraordinaire. I’m not proud of the fact, but I am realistic. Do you procrastinate? Or do you “just do it” as Nike advises?
I envy the Nike-like folks.
Happily, I’m interrupting my normal procrastination withexciting news for you.
You will get the gigantic, stupendousnews on July 20th.
What? Ihave to wait?
Yes. You do.
Why?
Because I procrastinated so much that there’s a lot of little news to lead up to the stupendous news.
Like the pre-game...

Welcome to our future
You may be wondering why I decided to create three websites for myself.
The reason is simple: my business is no longer simple. As an authorpreneur, I am looking at all the pieces of a business that I can have: books, audiobooks, blog, forum, podcast, course, immersive storyverse.
I need a bigger umbrella than Kelly McClymer, so Kelly McClymer Books will shield all my new enterprises from the rains that fortune brings.
What does that mean for you, my reader?
More consistency, as I bring on st...February 13, 2016

I’ve Been Wondering…

As an authorpreneur, I need to know my ideal reader. The default “everyone” isn’t useful.
My first instinct, of course, is to say “Me!” But that’s just a guess. So I have a question for my readers. If you feel like answering, take the poll below.
