1. Are there any more Once Upon stories I've only got 2 will there be more? There will be more Once Upon stories.  I have Once Upon a Prince almost finished. I also will have Once Upon a Pirate and Once Upon a Wizard coming along too. I’m writing them one after the other in hopes of getting them all out there.
2. More about Rayne of Rayne’s Wild Ride… will there be another full length story? Please? I don’t know if there will be a full length story or not. I do want to write more with them because I think they have more story to tell and I found a wonderful new outfit for Piper! Lol  Jayne, Rayne’s sister, will show up in a different series with her lovely partner Sally. Sally works at a BDSM club called Dark Encounters and if you’ve read Feel Me you have met Sally. I think Jayne might have made an appearance in that one too, but I can’t remember… lol I know she was talked about.
3. Did you always want to write? I have wanted to write for a very long time. At first I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to live in NY and write for the Times or something like that. I wasn’t always a reader though. That came a bit later in life and I think once I started really reading I started to think…wait, I can do THIS!
4. Do you like writing about vampires and shifters? I love writing paranormal. Just because I can make things up. It doesn’t have to be true to the world like a lot of contemporary does.
5. Would you or have you ever written about m/f romance? I do write m/f romance. I started out writing it. Still have a few stories that I need to finish. My Marine series, Semper Fi. I have two out and need to write 3 more.
6. How did you start writing M/M romance? Well I started off reading it. Ally Blue’s Fireflies and TA Chase’s Out of Bounds. I was hooked.  I had a story about a brother and sister and something wasn’t working. The brother was straight, but…it didn’t feel right. Once I gave him a boyfriend it started to flow. The first m/m I wrote didn’t have any sex in it. It is called Runaway Man. Very short, but it was me getting my feet wet. Then I went back to the brother and sister, but before I could finish their stories another one came to me. Heart Song. This story is where I wrote my first gay sex scene. After that… I fell in love writing about two men falling in love.
7. How long does it take you to finish one of your book? It really depends. Sometimes I could finish one in a week. If my flow is going and it is a short story. Sometimes a month. Sometimes longer if I just can’t get into the groove.
8. If there was someone who had yet to read one of your books, which one would you recommend to start with? It depends on what you like. If you like Sci-Fi I would say go with Retribution from Total e Bound. If you like contemporary maybe True Colors from MLR or one of the Anthologies I’m in. Unconventional at Best and Unconventional in Atlanta both at Total e Bound. Vampire I would go with Claimed from MLR. It’s probably best to ask someone who has read my stories. Lol
9. What branch was she in and where did she serve? I was in the United States Air Force. I served for about two years. I wish it was longer, but I developed asthma while in the military and they medically discharged me. I was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. I did my training in Mississippi.
10. Also How did she get involved in the M/M when she is so good at M/F cause I love my Mag man.
Truly from me to all of you don't say this but I can't think of many authors I look forward to but Jam is one of them. Dragons.... Fairy tales.... Marines....MMMMMMMMMMM Thank you.  I answered this above, but it started with reading m/m and falling in love with reading about two men finding each other.
11. If you were stranded in any of your worlds (books), which one would it be?  And who would it be? Se from my Alliance series—her book with her two men is Salvation. It is the only m/m/f in the series. All of the others are m/m.  OMG. She has two hot men. One a bit geeky and one warrior. Yum. And I love my Alliance series. It can take place anywhere in the universe. I especially would like to visit the pleasure planet that is in my story Reward.
12. What is your favorite genre to read, when/if you get a chance? I am a BIG reader. Sometimes I read more than I write. lol I love any sub genre of m/m. Sci-Fi is one of my favorites same with paranormal.
13. Is there a genre that you haven't written that you'd like to try?  If so, what and why? I think I’ve written a lot of different genres. I think the only one I might not have is inspirational. I did a small little inspiration on a blog as a challenge, but that is it. I’m really up for trying to write just about anything as long as I’m interested.
14. Who would be your Favourite character and why? I don’t have a favorite character. Not really. Unless it is the one I’m working on at the time.  I really love all of them.
15. What do you do on a typical writing day? I wish I had a typical writing day. I might get more accomplished. I hate to say it, but I’m a mood writer. I usually have to have music on. It helps with the flow, but each day is different.
16. Do you prefer writing about perfect characters or flawed ones and why? Both. Perfect characters can be fun to write, because they are perfect, but I might like to pair them with a flawed character to see how they interact. I think most of my characters that I put together have something that balances them and makes them good for each other.
17. When you have writer's block how do you break free? I don’t usually have writer’s block per say. I write in what I call spurts. Lol Usually I take a break with reading or watching tv.
18. About how long does it typically take you to write one of the books in your series versus a single title?  I think they take about the same time. It might take a bit longer to write book 2 or 3 of a series book just because I don’t always take notes so I have to go back and find stuff. Or if I did take notes I have to refer back to them.
19. Is it easier or harder to write the series books because of the world building that's taken place? I love world building. I wish I was a little bit better at it. But once I understand the world, it is easier. I still have to go back and find things all the time. Lol
20. Do you listen to music while writing or need silence? Perhaps something romantic? Or rowdy? Maybe it depends on the story or characters? I like to listen to music. Like with True Colors, when I wrote that the only thing I listened to was the song, True Colors. I was writing a sex scene for Once Upon a Prince and had some Nine Inch Nails on. Lol I also have a mix of songs I like that I’ll have playing in the back ground. Um…sometimes I’ll let some gay porn run in the background too. heehee
21. Do you have any favorite books or authors that you look to help inspire you to write? I don’t really. When I read a favorite author it is for pure enjoyment. I don’t really read them to inspire myself. I mean—certain people inspire me. Like Carol Lynne and Abigail Roux. TA Chase and Amber Kell. Well—a lot of authors themselves inspire me. Amy Lane and Jaime Samms—I wish I could write the tear jerkers like they do. TJ Klune and Ethan Day because they can bring on the funny AND make you cry. I could go on and on and on. Lol
22. Did you always know you were going to write erotic stories, or was it something you discovered along the way? I think it is something I discovered. I like keeping the bedroom door open just because I’m nosey. Lol  I also like reading it and I usually write the kind of stuff I’d like to read.
23. Do you use pictures for inspiration for your characters?  Such as model or actor pics? I do like to use pictures. Sometimes I’ll know right away and sometimes I have to search. Like I’ll see a picture and be like…hey! That’s my guy! Lol
24. Your work is very popular with readers and reviewers; how does it feel to have such positive recognition for your work? I still have a hard time believing people read my stories. Maybe because I live in my own little bubble. Lol But to have positive recognition—it is wonderfully awesome. I love hearing that someone liked what I read. It makes my day.
25. Do you write more than one book at a time? Not usually. My Ever After series—I’m kind of doing that by setting up Once Upon a Pirate and maybe Once Upon a Wizard in Once Upon a Prince.
26. I’ve heard authors talk about their characters as if they’re sitting right in the room with them and whoever is talking the loudest is who gets their story written. Is the same thing true for you? It isn’t. I actually call how I write a brain dump. Lol I have no idea what I’m going to write. I open up a template and just start typing and the story comes out. Sometimes I like to go back and re-read my stories and say…hey…I wrote that! lol
27. What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day? curl up in bed or on a comfy chair? watch t.v. or a movie? Curl up in bed and watch a movie or read a book.
28. Have you even written a person into a book just so you could "get even" with them? I do have one started that I did just that with…um…so I could kill them off. Lol But I never finished it.
29. What book do you wish you had written? I really don’t have an answer for that. I don’t think there is one. Just because I like my own writing and my own voice and I enjoy other authors for their individual personalities.
30. Is there a character type that you would never attempt to write? (ex. Disabled, deaf, transgender, black, fat) I used to say a gay couple so I will never say never. I actually have written a black character, a fat character (he did later get into shape, but I like writing average characters) and I have a transgender character started, but haven’t finished it. So I’m really up for writing just about anything as long as I can research it.
31. Is there an author that you want to collaborate with but haven’t had the opportunity to do so? I would love to collaborate with Abigail Roux just because I LOVE her style and I LOVE her Cut and Run series.  Others that I might want to collaborate with…I am. 
32. What author from history do you wish you had the opportunity to write with? Margaret Mitchell. Hello! Gone with the Wind. My favorite story. I wish she would have survived to write the sequel. The woman who wrote Scarlett did an excellent job—but it wasn’t the sequel.
33. What is your dream vacation spot? A tropical island…with WiFi. Lol
34. If you weren’t an author what would you be? Hmmm…that is hard. I mean…I do have a day job so I am a secretary/office manager. So I would probably still work in an office. Being an author is my creative output. I do like to paint, but that is mostly abstract stuff. I don’t know if I would focus more on that or not.
35. What advice would you give to aspiring authors? Read. I’m not kidding. And to keep trying. Keep writing. My first two stories? Subbed them about the same time. Got a rejection for one and an acceptance for the other—on the same day! Lol Also—do NOT write for anyone but yourself. If you love the story, that is what matters. If you love it? There is a good chance that others will as well.
36. Why do you think there are so many women writers in the M/M Romance genre? I don’t know if I can answer that. I know why I write m/m. Because I love two strong male characters. If you read my m/f—my female characters are all pretty strong too. So maybe I can’t answer why I write m/m. lol Probably because I love to read it so I am happy to contribute to the genre.
37. Does your family know what you write? If so, what do they think about it? I am completely me. If you see me on Facebook—that is totally me. My family has friended me on Facebook. I don’t hide. I don’t think I can and I’m happy that I’m in a position to not have to. The name on my birth certificate? Jambrea Jo Jones.  If you see me on Facebook I’m Jambrea Gaff. I kept my ex-husband’s last name for our son. They are proud of me because I’m living my dream and that is what a parent wants for their child. For them to be happy and follow their dreams. I know that is what I want for my son.

Thank you so much Jambrea for stopping by and thank YOU readers for asking the questions! Didn't have your question answered? Fear NOT! Keep sending them in. The next author may just choose YOURS!!

Tempeste O'Riley Week: Day Five

Domestic Abuse & Finding Your HEAFirst I would like to thank Vic and The Purple Fantasy Den for hosting “Designs of Desire” and me, the author, today. In my novel, “Designs of Desire”, one of the MC’s has sadly suffered both domestic abuse and sexual assault—thankfully before the story starts, but for James, the victim, the abuse is never far away. For me, one of the things I wanted to show in this story is that while abuse can destroy, or nearly destroy people, families, and more, there is the possibility that if you leave and are able to move on that maybe your true “prince” or “princess” will still be out there waiting for you. James suffered abuse before he left home and when he again found himself being abused, he felt as far too often happiness, that somehow it’s his fault. Beyond that, many times if you are part of the GLBTQ community, there just aren’t the resources or the understanding to easily find the help you need. Even worse, there are often not the same legal protections and recognitions for GLBTQ survivors are there are for their Het counterparts. For some, like James in “Designs of Desire”, finding your HEA is still very possible, but only if you survive. Finding help is the first step to getting out of a very dangerous situation before it’s too late. Organizations like The National Domestic Violence Hotline, Gay Men’s Domestic Violence Project, and the Northwest Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian, and Gay Survivors of Abuse, are out there waiting and wanting to offer help... I would like to invite everyone to become more knowledgeable about domestic abuse, with or without sexual assault combined, and to protect yourselves and your loved ones. No one should have to live under such condition, not even fictional characters! If you feel as passionately about Domestic Violence, please consider volunteering or donating to either The National Domestic Violence Hotline or to the domestic abuse center nearest you.
Or text “HOTLINE” to 85944 to donate $10 to The National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Excerpt:

James allowed his gaze to wander around the entryway, taking in the welcoming setting. Noticing a worker passing through, he asked, “Excuse me. Do you know where I can find Mr. Burns?”
“Yeah, he’s in the manager’s office over there.” The man was covered in dust. He gestured toward a closed door near a large desk, then continued on his way. James couldn’t help looking around once more to admire the rich wood tones, marble tiled floors, and beautiful crown molding, before he headed off in the right direction.
Before he could knock, the door swung open and a harried looking woman stormed out, slamming it so hard it popped back open. Maybe now isn’t the best time, he thought and started to turn away when Mr. Burns appeared in the doorway.
“James,” he said. “Thank God you’re here. Please tell me you brought some ideas, before Stacey drives me to drink. She wants to start painting but can’t until we have everything settled with the designs.”
The way Seth’s eyes pierced him made James feel both nervous and ten feet tall at the same time. “If you have some place I can set up, sure. I have a few designs for you to look over.” He kept wondering why they had waited so long to employ Skye Designs. Normally you do all the branding much earlier in the project.
Motioning down the hallway, Seth led him into a large room—probably meant to be a conference or reception room, considering the carpet and acoustic tiles in the ceiling. “Come in. What can I do to help?” he asked, watching James settle into a comfortable chair before unloading his pack.
James was nervous. He’d never had such a significant or large account before, but he was excited as well. “We normally have the designs approved before getting to this point, but I’ll do my best to catch up. Give me just a minute to set up, then you can see what I have.”
“We’ll get to that in a few. I want you to finish setting up then come with me.”
James stopped midmotion and looked up, confused. “I thought—” He shook his head. “Never mind. Okay.”
Seth led James out of the room, into a wide hallway with large windows spilling filtered sunlight onto the veined marble floor, and began showing him around. Seth stayed close, so close James occasionally caught a whiff of his intoxicating scent, something bright yet deep—cardamom and cedar with a light musk. He wasn’t sure, but he was beginning to think just being near Seth could become a delicious addiction.
As they exited the elevator on the second floor, James stopped dead in his tracks. His heart beat so fast and loud he felt certain Seth would hear it slamming into his ribs. He stared ahead and prayed he was having a terrible nightmare. Those he could wake up from. Please!
Standing there, looking him up and down, was a phantom from his past. Victor d’Leone was even more powerfully built than the last time he had seen him. He stood in the hall, his arms crossed over his barrel chest, scowling. The sea-foam green eyes James once thought so beautiful and loving now bored holes through him. The ghosts of the last time Vic had been near him shot pain-filled shards of memory through him. Away. Yes, he had to get away.
“I… I… I…,” James stammered. He scrambled back into the elevator and almost fell when his left crutch slipped on the metal edging. He punched the close door button repeatedly while fighting the panic attack threatening to destroy his job and sanity. “No, no, no. Not happening,” he mumbled.
He hadn’t waited for Seth to react, nor had he explained anything; he’d just bolted. James headed toward the exit as soon as the elevator doors opened—forget the damn presentation. He scrambled for the steps, desperate to reach the car before he completely lost it.
Life was never that easy.
Seth appeared out of nowhere, sprinting after him in his expensive Armani suit and custom leather shoes. “James! Stop!” he commanded.
Fighting the panic, James tried to get a hold of himself. Stop? Is he nuts? “I can’t be here. I—I’ll come back later.” With protection!
A powerful hand grasped his right arm. Startled, he stopped. Staring at the hand that bound him to his worst nightmare, he begged, “Please, let me go.”

Try as he might, he couldn’t stop the panic and fear as it suffocated him.

Tempeste O'Riley Week: Character Thursday

Today on Tempeste O'Riley Week, Tempe is sharing with us some information on her characters James Bryant and Seth Burns from her book Designs of Desire. Sit back and enjoy!
Meet James and Seth from Designs of Desire
Tempeste O’Riley is here with profiles of James Bryant and Seth Burns from her debut book Designs of Desire , book #1 of the Desires Entwined series. Tempe is currently working on Desires’ Guardian and Temptations of Desire, both part of the Desires Entwined universe.
James Bryant
About James: James has come to accept that thanks to his genetic disorder he’s too much trouble to be bothered with and that relationships, at least for him, always mean pain, so when he meets Seth, he’s reluctant to believe the man could really want him as he is.
Description: James is an artist. He has forearm crutches in everything from rainbow to sleek, all back for business. He even has a pair that has more paint splatters than metal showing that are his 'work' crutches for when he's painting. At home he’s usually in jeans, rarely a shirt, and no shoes. When out, he wears expensive, sophisticated clothes.
28 years old. He has blue eyes and short-ish dirty blond hair. He's 6'1". He walks with forearm crutches and hand silver ring splints on both hands.

Seth Burns
About Seth: Seth is the head of Carrington Enterprises and truly believes that nothing is unobtainable if you are willing to put in the time and effort to acquire your goals. When he meets the shy artist James, his heart is stolen and his determination if put to the test.
Description: Seth is very sure of himself, in control type business man. He is intrigued by James right away but senses his shyness too. He is a sensual Dom, though he doesn’t use that term.
35 years old. Short dark hair, hazel eyes, a straight, aristocratic nose, and a full pouty bottom lip. He wasn't bulky but smooth and toned. The kind of body that comes from serious work and forethought. He's 6'.

James gestured to the chair across the conference table and hoped Seth would sit. He hated to be stood over. Seth smiled and settled into the chair indicated. “Now, what can I do for you, sir?” “We, Carrington Enterprises, are beginning a new venture and hope you can help with designs. Companies I can manage; design and draw, not so much.” James nodded at Seth’s pause. “Let me start by explaining the project you will brand. We’re opening a new hotel chain. This will be a little different than your usual hotel, though. Each site will be more like a large bed and breakfast, but they will cater to the GLBT community. It’s often an issue when a couple wants to vacation. They have to consider the area, the hotel, the other patrons even if they want to do something as simple as hold hands. That is, if they don’t want to be met with hate or possible violence.” James wasn’t sure which impressed him more, the wonderful idea behind the hotel or the deep, commanding voice that instilled confidence in everything he said. Obviously unaware of James’s internal dialog, Seth continued his spiel. “With our liberal policies and views, we have decided to make a place where judgment doesn’t exist. At least, that’s the theory.” God, that voice! He shivered. “Also, each site will have a club, bar, or restaurant attached. So, this will be an ongoing project, not a one-shot deal.” When finished with his little speech, Seth seemed inordinately pleased with the idea. No wonder Brian gave me the account. He didn’t realize he had spoken aloud until Seth glowered at him. “Excuse me?” Seth snapped. “I was assured you have no personal issues or biases that might hinder your ability to provide the needed work. Was I incorrectly informed?” “No. No, sir. I apologize for my comment. It was out of line,” James said in a rush, trying to smooth over the obvious irritation his thoughtless words had caused. “Are you able to do the branding or should I continue elsewhere?” Seth demanded. “You misunderstand, Mr. Burns. I had wondered why I was given your account, considering I’m not one of the senior designers and your account would normally be reserved for one of them. Now that I hear what the project is, I understand why I was chosen.” He knew he was babbling but he couldn’t help it. “You see, I’m the only openly gay designer here and my family runs a small bed and breakfast. This project is perfect. In fact, once we have the branding set up, I’m sure I can point you in the right direction for some specialized marketing. Magazines, newspapers, websites, etcetera. We will help you with all of that, as well.” James tried to restrain the extent of his excitement over the project, but was unsure how successful he was. He didn’t want to seem flippant or inexperienced after admitting he was a junior designer with Skye Designs. Seth raised an eyebrow and smiled. “Excited, are we? Carl said you were the man for the job. I guess he was right if enthusiasm counts. I have a full write-up of what we need and what we do and do not want to incorporate into the brand.” His smile fell and he became all business again. “This is an upscale getaway, not a high-priced bathhouse.” “Understood, sir. I think the idea will work in areas with a large enough population of GLBT and open-minded people.” His hands itched to begin sketching and planning. “Good. Once you’ve read over everything and start your designing, I want you to visit the site we chose for the first hotel. It’s here in Milwaukee, so it shouldn’t be too far for you. Would you be ready by Friday?” At James’s accord, Seth opened his briefcase and began pulling out folders and large manila envelopes and setting them in front of James. He paused, peered up at James, and blinked hard. “I should call someone to carry these things for you,” he mumbled, glancing at the items and toward James’s crutches. “You can’t fit all this in your bag.” James pinched the bridge of his nose while counting to ten in his head. Why do they always see the sticks instead of me? “Mr. Burns.” “Seth, please,” he interrupted, giving James a soft smile. “Seth, Chase acts as my assistant when needed. He will tend to anything I can’t transfer up to my office personally. There is no need to be concerned.” A strange look flashed across Seth’s face, but his expression quickly returned to his previous in-command smile. “Very good then.” They chatted a bit about ideas and plans before Seth shifted his coat sleeve back to check his watch. With a slight frown, he said, “Well, I need to head back to the office. I will leave this all in your fine hands, James. Please call me here.” He pulled out his business card and wrote something on the back. “I look forward to our next meeting.” Seth held out his hand. James flexed his fingers and clasped the offering. He knew this was for work, but somehow it felt different this time. Warm and strong, the grip shot tingles up his arm. Seth seemed to hold on a little longer than necessary for business needs. It had been so long since a man touched him, at least without violence or pain. James shook off the thought he might be interested. Beautiful men like Seth didn’t waste their time on guys like him. Besides, he wasn’t certain he wanted to go down such a painful road again. James stood in the doorway, watching Seth saunter out the main doors, wishing for something, though not really sure what.

Tempeste O'Riley Week: Day Three: WIP Wednesday

In keeping with the theme here at The Purple Fantasy Den, I’m sharing a little teaser from one of my WIPs, Temptations of Desire. Temptations is the journey of Officer Dal Sayer, a police officer, and Alex Noble, a sexy, gender fluid man. Can Dal embrace who Alex truly is inside and out? And, can Alex trust in Dal and their burgeoning feelings to find their HEA?
♥ ♥♥ ♥ ♥♥
“I’ll have a look around and stop back by on my way out, if that works for you.”“Cool. I’ll be, um, cooking. Bye.” Alex fled back to the kitchen, desperate to calm his heart and steady his nerves. Once he put in his favorite mix and turned on the CD player he got to work. Cooking always calmed him. Alex pulled out the pots, pans, and trays he would need. Setting the large mixing bowls down in his chosen baking area, he started measuring the ingredients for both cheddar-garlic biscuits and the crusty herbed garlic bread he planned to go with the salad, pork and pot roasts, and various veggie dishes he planned for the day’s meal. After placing the tea towels over the bowls and setting them aside to rise, Alex cleaned up and headed toward the fridge to pull out the roasts. Each one got a dry rub before being put back in the refrigerator to wait. He then danced over to the sink, washing his hands again, before heading for the baskets of fresh carrots, asparagus, onions, potatoes, greens, apples, and portabellas he’d brought. A deep chuckle brought Alex out of his dancing and chopping. He spun around with a soft gasp, dropping the knife on the counter in the process, to find Dal, arms folded across his chest resting against the door frame, smirking at him. “Oh, no-no. Please don’t hold back on my account!”Alex gaped at him, confused by the mix of lust and mortification running through him. Snapping his mouth shut, he squinted his eyes, hands going to his slender hips. “Huff! It’s my kitchen and I can dance if I wanna.”“Yes, you certainly may.” Dal winked and chuckled again. “I didn’t mean to upset you. Just wanted to let you know I was done and heading out.” “Oh,” Alex sighed, completely charmed by the sweet smile Dal was giving him. “Thank you. Did you find everything you needed?” Alex smiled, hoping it appeared flirtatious instead of nervous.“I think I just might have,” Dal replied, voice deepening, eyes not moving from Alex’s.Somehow the heat in that green stare made Alex wonder if there might be more to the simple statement than the specific words implied.“Good. I’m glad, officer.”“Dal, please. And thank you.”“Dal,” he barely got out, it sounded more like a whisper than anything else. “You, you’re welcome.”Dal opened his mouth to speak again, but was cut off by the radio on his shoulder crackling to life. He motioned Alex to keep quiet while he answered. Alex watched, fascinated at the change from shy, possibly flirting man to towering powerhouse as Dal became Officer Sayer in front of him. Alex bit his bottom lip, thinking unsexy thoughts to try to stave off his erection thanks to how hot Dal, both as a sexy man and delicious officer, made him.Alex was brought out of his thoughts when Dal cleared this throat. “I’ve got to go for now, Alex, but thanks for the tour. I hope to see you again. Soon,” Dal called to Alex as he looked back at him before hustling out the door.Alex stood there staring at the spot where his fantasy man had just been, wishing he knew the man better or had some way to know how to run into him again. Well, he thought, there’s always the dance...

Tempeste O'Riley Week: Day Two: Tantalizing Teaser Tuesday

Hey Vicksters!

Just as I said yesterday:

This week belongs to Tempeste O'Riley who just got her first novel published with Dreamspinner Press! (Congratulations Tempe!). She's going to regale us interviews, blurbs, excerpts, works in progress, character insights, and the like. Are you excited? You should be!

Today is Tantalizing Teaser Tuesday here at The Purple Fantasy Den and Tempeste brought something from her new book for you all to salivate over.

Wanna read it? Well here it goes:

Hello and thanks for visiting with me here at The Purple Fantasy Den! Today I thought I’d share an excerpt from Desires’ Guardian along with a giveaway! Below you will meet James Chase Manning. DG is the story of Chase, whom you met in Designs of Desire, and the beefy bodyguard and PI Rhys Sayer. The problem of finding love isn’t always the only issue. Sometimes having faith in and being willing to open your life to another is harder than anything else.

Chase couldn’t take watching Rhys move around like he was. The pain and stiffness in his shoulders and neck seemed almost as pronounced as the pain lines around his eyes and lips. He didn’t know why Rhys was hurting but he longed to help, to make him feel a little better, even if for just a few minutes. Seeing Rhys settle down into one of the large plush chairs in the reception area of the office, Chase decided to swallow his pride a little and pushed away from his desk and computers. Standing up he carefully stretched his arms above his head until he felt the release of tension in his own back and neck. He moved over to where Rhys was slowly before lightly clearing his throat. “Rhys?”He grunted.“Look, I know you don’t really like me but would you let me try to help with the pain a little?” Chase had no idea if Rhys would agree but he had to try. As much as he hated to admit it, he knew Rhys was actually a pretty descent guy, even if he was, sadly, biased against guys like him.“I don’t—”Chase decided to take the decision from Rhys—well, unless he rejected his help. With slow, deliberate motions Chase stretched his hands to each side of Rhys head at the same time he took a step closer. Setting his middle and ring finger of each hand onto Rhys temples, he began to rub in gentle circles. Rhys tensed but then sighed and relaxed a little. “Here, lean forward a little and I’ll move behind you so I can get to your neck and shoulders.” Without waiting Chase moved behind the chair and gently glided the fingers of his right hand down Rhys’s neck to see what, if anything, he could feel about the tension there. He brought his left hand into the caress-like assessment before he began the gentle massage. He didn’t put any real force behind the motions at first.“Relax, Rhys. Get used to my touch for a minute, then I’ll add the pressure needed to help you. Seriously, I don’t know what’s got you so tense but it hurts to even look at you right now.” Chase continued his light massage, increasing the strength used incrementally until he was actually exerting himself a little. Rhys let out a deep, rumbling moan after a few minutes of the stronger, more demanding massage. “God, you’re good at that,” he groaned. Glad he was behind the chair so Rhys couldn’t see the large bulge in the front of his tight jeans, Chase continued to work his neck and shoulder muscles.“Is this from an injury or something?”Rhys shook his head slightly. “No. Just, ohhh, stress. Damn, Chase, where did you learn to do tha-a-at?”Chase giggled at the way Rhys was reacting to a little muscle pampering. “When James was hurt years ago in that wreck his ex caused, his physiotherapist wanted him to have a massage after his sessions but Jamie couldn’t stand to let people touch him, so his physio taught me how he wanted it done for James.”Rhys’s head snapped up. He turned to look at Chase over his shoulder. “You learned massage just to help James?”“I was about the only person for a long time he could stand to have touch him,” Chase explained with a shrug. “He lived with me for awhile after he was released from the hospital since he couldn’t walk and had to rebuild his strength and all.” He tensed at the strange look Rhys was giving him. “What?”“He always glosses over any questions about that time in his life other than to insist you are his best friend and were his only family before he met Seth. It never occurred to me that you would go to such lengths to help and support him.”“Jamie’s my bff, Rhys. My touch was all he could manage without cringing, crying, or completely freaking out. I did what he needed me to. That’s what you do for the people you love, right?” he asked, right brow raised.“Well, yeah. I mean...” Rhys trailed off when the door chimed as it opened. Startled, Chase took a step backwards at the venomous look coming from the blond guy sauntering toward him and Rhys.

Goddess Fish Virtual Super Book Blast Promo Tour: Daisy Harris: From the Ashes

I am very excited to be hosting my first Goddess Fist Promotional Tour and extremely excited that it's for Daisy Harris.
Daisy stopped by on her tour at the Purple Fantasy Den to share with us her newest release, From the Ashes.
From the Ashesby Daisy Harris ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 BLURB:
When an accident burns down Jesse’s apartment, he’s left broke and homeless, with a giant dog and a college schedule he can’t afford to maintain. And no family who’s willing to take him in.

Lucky for him, a sexy fireman offers him a place to stay. The drawback? The fireman’s big Latino family lives next door, and they don’t know their son is gay.

Tomas’s parents made their way in America with hard work and by accepting help when it was offered, so he won’t let Jesse drop out of school just so he can afford a place to live. Besides, Jesse’s the perfect roommate—funny, sweet and breathtakingly cute. He climbs into Tomas’s bed and tugs at his heart. Until Jesse starts pushing for more.

Their passion enflames their bodies but threatens to crush Tomas’s family. Tomas is willing to fight for Jesse, but after losing everything, Jesse isn’t sure he can bear to risk his one remaining possession—his heart.

Warning: Contains an angry older brother, judgmental best friends, a slobbering bull mastiff, and enough red-hot gay loving to make a porn star blush..

Excerpt:

The gay guys Tomas hooked up with never seemed to find what he did to them demeaning, but he’d been raised to believe it was.

That was fine when it came to hookups at strange bars in the city, but the kid curled up on his couch watching television wasn’t like those guys. He was sweet and had had a tough time. He didn’t deserve to be treated the way Tomas treated men, even if Jesse thought that’s what he wanted.

By the time he pushed open the door from his bedroom into the living room, Jesse had twisted into the fetal position on the couch, and fallen asleep.

“Jess?” Tomas touched his arm, trying to shake him awake. He needed to get Jesse off the couch long enough to unfold it into a bed.

“Hmm?” Jesse flopped onto his other side, almost falling off in the process.

Tomas shook his head. “All right.” He went to the other side of the loveseat and worked his arms under Jesse’s knees and shoulders. “Up you go.” He lifted.

Waking up, Jesse wrapped his arms around Tomas’s neck.

He smelled like soap from Tomas’s shower, overlaid on the scent of ashes. Jesse pressed a kiss into his shoulder.

“You can take my bed tonight,” Tomas whispered. He tried to ignore the throbbing in his belly and the urge to set Jesse down and lie on top of him.

When he laid Jesse on the bed, Jesse didn’t let go. “I could be rocking your world right now,” Jesse breathed in his ear.

Soundlessly, Tomas gasped. He couldn’t leave the circle of Jesse’s arms. Jesse was stronger than he realized, and in that moment, Tomas was far too weak.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Birkenstock-wearing glamour girl and mother of two by immaculate conception, Daisy Harris still isn't sure if she writes erotica. Her romances start out innocently enough. However, her characters behave like complete sluts. Much to Miss Harris's dismay the sex tends to get completely out of hand.

She writes about fantastical creatures and about young men getting their freak on, and she's never missed an episode of The Walking Dead.

Tempeste O'Riley Week: Day One: Ask Author

It's Day One of Tempeste O'Riley Week here at The Purple Fantasy Den.

And since it's Monday that means that it's ASK AUTHOR!

I'm really excited to welcome Tempeste here. She has just released her first novel with Dreamspinner Press and I can tell you it is WONDERFUL. And you should totally go get it.

Thank you for having me over to The Purple Fantasy Den, Vic. I’m ecstatic to be here and to have an opportunity to share with your wonderful readers.

1. When did you start writing?

As a small child, but I stopped writing after high school. Life, work, tragedy, etc. got in the way and I stopped writing as I considered it frivolous when I had so much real life that demanded my time and focus. Thankfully things have changed and I’m now able to express all the things crowding my head.

2. How do you come up with your stories?

Things in life catch my attention and before I know it, my brain is creating people for the situation to work through. It’s kind of annoying at times, but seems to be working for me so far.

3. Do you prefer to write in silence or have music on?

Oh, music. I hate silence. It’s creepy, lol. Pandora is my best friend ;c)

4. Do you prefer to write about regular romance or do you prefer BDSM?

While I included BDSM elements in my story, I write romance. That’s not to say that BDSM can’t be within the confines of romance and love, just that I prefer to focus on the romance.
I write what my characters tell me to. I don’t tell them what kind of sex life to have, lol.

5. Do you do a lot of research for your books?

Yes. I researched sensual BDSM and even had a couple of people who live the life read before submission. It was easy to research James’s health issue, as it’s what I live with every day. And since I started writing ToD, I’ve interviewed various gender fluid people, bio male and female, to help get Alex ‘right’.

6. How long does it take you to finish a book?

If I could sit down and focus every day? Probably about two months, plus crit/beta time. But, with my children and other responsibilities, nine months or more. :c( I hate that, but can’t/won’t change my family and spirituality obligations.

7. What inspired you to write?

My partner pushed me to write the stories bouncing around in my head. I wasn’t sure others would like them, but after he got a few others in on it, I caved and started writing. And am soooo glad I did.

8. Is there a genre or subject matter that you want to write about but are hesitant to do so (ex. Interracial, Disabled, Transgender, Mpreg, etc.)?

That’s actually the situation in ToD, one of my current WIPs. One of the characters is gender fluid, and while a topic I truly want to write about, it’s one I also find worrisome to tackle. More people seem to grasp what transgender is that gender fluid, in my experience. And the other MC of that story is bi, another oft misunderstood orientation. So, I was hesitant but determined to see Dal and Alex get their HEA. It’s also an interracial story.
As for others I would like to write about, hmm... FTM probably would be my choice for this query.

9. Is it harder to write about menage+ couples than two men?

I’ve not written ménage, yet, but I imagine the sex part would be harder to plot out, but the romance part shouldn’t be too much more complicated... depending on the crux of the storyline.

10. You have a BDSM series (or more, I can’t remember). Did you enjoy writing about that sort of lifestyle or was it difficult?

I’m not sure I’d call Designs of Desire a BDSM book, though there are BDSM elements in the story. Seth is a sensual Dom but due to James’s health and past, he limits his ‘dommy’ actions and sex for the sake of his partner, though he does hope to step things up over time.
It was only difficult in the how to make it work between men with such different pasts and situations. I hope that readers can see what I was hoping to show. And yes, I enjoyed writing it!

11. If you had to pick only three of your characters to take on vacation who would it be and why?

Hm... Alex, he’s a fantastic chef. Chase, life would never get dull. And, Seth. With him there we would no wanting for anything, lol.

12. How do you come up with the ideas for your books?

Situations that are personal and those of people I know. Though I’ve altered the situations immensely, that’s still where I get the ‘starts’ of my stories.

13. If you had to choose who would be your favourite author?

Andrew Grey, hands down. He gives me so many different types of stories, sweet, passionate, western, mystery, fantasy, self discovery, etc. And with how often a new book comes out, I’m never without something new to read!

14. What is the best thing about being a writer?

Getting to let my inner characters free into the world. I love sharing them with others, whether those others ‘get’ my characters or not, lol.

15. If you weren’t a writer what would you be?

I’m a mom, first and foremost. But beyond that, I used to work in retail, management, and loved it. Sadly, with my mobility issues, it became something I had to give up.

16. What are the genres that you generally read, excluding MM?

Romance, adventure, mystery, and crime.

17. Do you read MF or MFM books?

I read all kinds of gender mix stories. While I write M/M, I do not limit my reading to that genre only. All forms of love, passion, and sensual connection interest me.

18. How about the FF genre?

Yes, I read straight (pun intended) F/F stories.

19. What do you think about the New Adult genre for MM?

The same thing I think about the New Adult genre for all types of books... that it’s wonderful. I love seeing the just barely an adult get their stories told. Too often they are lumped in with teens, which they aren’t, or in with adult novels, which they aren’t quite yet.

20. What do you do when you get a writers block to unblock?

Read. Usually when I can’t write it’s a matter of too much going on in my head to focus on anything, so reading lets my brain have a break and not have to do too much. Plus, it’s just plain fun.

21. Who is your favourite character that you have written about?

Until recently I would have said James, even with all the pain he’s gone through, but now that I’m working on ToD, I’d have to pick Alex. He’s a gender fluid gay person and is just too much fun to write, even the hard parts. I’m thoroughly enjoying the research parts of the story as well.

22. Do you write about more than one story at a time?

Until recently I would have said no, one at a time, but as the two main WIPs I have right now overlap, heavily, I have found myself switching back and forth. I’m not actually sure if it’s #2 and #3 or #3 then #2 that I’m writing, lol.

23. Have you ever written about feline shifters or any other types of shifter?

Actually, I’m working on a short (heaven help me) between a cat shifter and a vamp. To say things are rough would be an understatement, lol!

24. Do you plan on writing for a while to come?

Oh definitely. I have the short, six books total planned for the Desires Entwined series (of which Designs of Desire is book #1). I have other ideas percolating in the back of my mind as well, so yeah, y’all aren’t getting rid of me quite yet. :c)

25. Do like to write series or do you prefer to write single stories?

Not sure yet. I’m working on a series and a short, single story. I think I’d prefer to focus on series as the idea of one-offs just don’t really appeal to me.

26. What is the longest story you have ever written? What is the shortest story you have ever written?

In both cases it’s the same answer. Designs of Desire is just over 60k and is my only published work, so far. When done, my paranormal short should be about 9k.

27. Would you ever write about a man and a woman?

That’s a hard one to answer. I would, but I doubt I would do it under my Tempe name. I would come up with a different name for M/F, I think.

28. Where do you write?  An office, a room, a cubbyhole...

On the couch, turned sideways, with my laptop balanced on the back. I would much rather have a nice desk and such but I have to have the bracing for my one shoulder. (It slips in and out of the socket so if I want to use it and have normal touch senses, I have to brace it or only write in tiny bursts.)

29. When you have the time, what do types of books do you like to read for pleasure?  Favorite authors?

I read so many different genres I would use up half your day trying to list them all, lol. But my favorites are glbtq romance, paranormal, and/or mysteries. Especially if you can mix them together :c)
As for fav authors, hmm… Andrew Grey, Nikki Prince, Amy Lane, Evangeline Anderson, Anne Rice (her pre-convert work) and (yes, I know I’m weird) Dr. Seuss.

30. I'm curious about authors noms de plume, um pen names? First of all, Tempeste O'Riley is a great name. Is it a pen name? If so, how did you come up with it? What do you want it, as a name, to convey to potential readers?
If it's your birth name, well, you are just lucky!

Yes, Tempeste is a pen name. I wanted a name that was not related to my own but did reflect me as a person and writer. I actually batted around a list of names, both first and last, with my critique group until we narrowed it down to T. O. and one other. But, Tempeste fits me in many ways. I’m not destruction but I am from the south, have lived through many hurricanes and severe storms, can have a stormy personality at times (or so says my partner, lol), and it lets me have the nickname of Tempe, :c) *hint, that links to one of my favorite shows, hehe.

Tempeste also shared with us a blurb, cover and an excerpt from her newest release, Designs of Desire. Enjoy it here:

Excerpt:
James gestured to the chair across the conference table and hoped Seth would sit. He hated to be stood over. Seth smiled and settled into the chair indicated. “Now, what can I do for you, sir?”

“We, Carrington Enterprises, are beginning a new venture and hope you can help with designs. Companies I can manage; design and draw, not so much.”

James nodded at Seth’s pause.

That is, if they don’t want to be met with hate or possible violence.”

James wasn’t sure which impressed him more, the wonderful idea behind the hotel or the deep, commanding voice that instilled confidence in everything he said.

Obviously unaware of James’s internal dialog, Seth continued his spiel. “With our liberal policies and views, we have decided to make a place where judgment doesn’t exist. At least, that’s the theory.”

God, that voice!

Was I incorrectly informed?”

“No.

“This is an upscale getaway, not a high-priced bathhouse.”

“Understood, sir.

“You can’t fit all this in your bag.”

James pinched the bridge of his nose while counting to ten in his head. Why do they always see the sticks instead of me? “Mr. Burns.”

“Seth, please,” he interrupted, giving James a soft smile.

“Seth, Chase acts as my assistant when needed. He will tend to anything I can’t transfer up to my office personally. There is no need to be concerned.”

A strange look flashed across Seth’s face, but his expression quickly returned to his previous in-command smile. “Very good then.”

They chatted a bit about ideas and plans before Seth shifted his coat sleeve back to check his watch. With a slight frown, he said, “Well, I need to head back to the office. I will leave this all in your fine hands, James. Please call me here.” He pulled out his business card and wrote something on the back. “I look forward to our next meeting.”

Seth held out his hand.

Andrew J Peters Week: Day Four: Character Thursday

It's another day for Andrew J Peters and this time we get a character interview! Yay!!

Jacks Dowd – The Proust Questionnaire

Here’s a little feature on the hero from Werecat Jacks Dowd. One of my favorite magazines is Vanity Fair, and I thought it would be fun to give Jacks VF’s sardonically high-brow “Proust Questionnaire.” This is his response.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Being with the one you love.

What is your greatest fear?
Ending up old, alone and forgotten.

Which living person do you most admire?
Lady Gaga.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
When I lack the courage to stand up for what I believe.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
Patience.

What do you dislike most about your appearance?
[smiles] I guess it depends on which ‘appearance’ you mean. I wouldn’t change anything about my appearance as a mountain lion. As a person, well, I used to get teased about being too skinny. I guess I wouldn’t mind bulking up a bit.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
I wish I knew. I haven’t found him yet.

When and where were you happiest?
Montréal. In this dumpy room at a hostel where I was living with a guy who I thought was “the one.” We barely ever left the place, for reasons you can probably imagine. But everything went to shit pretty quickly when I found out about the fucked up person he really was.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I’d love to be able to sing. I can barely carry a tune.

What is your current state of mind?
Borderline psychotic.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wish I would have known about my Native ancestry when I was younger. And my potential to be a werecat.

If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be?
Wow. Just one thing? I guess the biggest issue is that I wish my family wasn’t so small-minded. They can’t deal with having a gay son. They’re so socially bigoted that they hide the fact that we’re all part Cherokee.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
My author tells me I can’t reveal spoilers. So I’ll just say that my greatest achievement was saving someone’s life.

If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be?
I’ve already had the opportunity to ‘come back’ as a mountain lion. A Bengal tiger would be pretty cool.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Being homeless on the streets of New York City.

What is the quality you most like in a man?
Emotional honesty. [grins] And a tight body to go with it.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Friendship.

What do you most value in your friends?
Acceptance.

Who are your favorite writers?
I’m not much of an intellectual. Does that writer from Family Guy count?

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Sticking with Family Guy, how about Stewie?

Who are your heroes in real life?
My grandmother, who was the only sane person in my family. And my roommate Farzan who basically pulled me out of the gutter.

What is it that you most dislike?
Hatred.

How would you like to die?
Seriously? How about peacefully in my sleep at the age of four hundred and one.

What is your motto?
We’re born alone, we die alone. Everything in between is ours to make.

Andrew J Peters Week: Day Two: Tantalizing Teaser Tuesday

Here's a tantalizing teaser for you from Andrew J. Peters from his book "Werecat". Enjoy!

WERECAT: THE REARING
by Andrew J. Peters

Coming in from the darkened street, Jacks was assaulted by the all-night bodega's fluorescent lights. Ground-in dirt scored the dull tile floor. Boxed dry goods, probably stocked in another decade, lined grimy, metal shelves. The water-stained drop ceiling encroached in on him from the corners of his vision.

As he approached one of the glass refrigerator cabinets, his reflection glared back. Jacks had told himself he was working a grunge look, but he was crossing into vagrant territory. Thick, unwashed hair framed his scruffily bearded face. His black wool cap didn't make him look hip and counterculture. It made him look destitute and dangerous. He wondered if he traveled in a cloud of body odor, like some comic strip character.

Jacks grabbed some things from the refrigerated section, headed to the canned food aisle and dropped an armful of groceries on the check-out counter.

Farzan, the cashier, smiled at him. He was a handsome Persian guy, probably around Jacks' age. They had made small talk before. Farzan worked the overnight shift while he was going to medical school. His dad owned the shop. He had struck up conversation about American politics and American rock bands, and it turned out they liked a lot of the same music. The guy was cool, but Jacks just wanted to get in and out. He looked like a mess. Besides, he had to be getting back to Benoit.

Farzan's dark, almond eyes narrowed at the sight of Jacks' purchases: five packages of hot dogs, two cartons of milk, a graying plastic envelope of assorted cold cuts and a half dozen cans of Vienna sausages. His tan face flouted a woeful grimace.

"Stocking up on proteins again?"

"Yeah," Jacks mumbled. He flashed a shy grin and dug into his jeans' pocket for cash. Farzan took his time scanning the items at his old, computerized register. He was probably bored and starved for company. The crooked Bud Lite clock on the wall behind the register showed three-fifteen in the morning.

"This is no good," Farzan said. "You need a complex diet or you will develop a vitamin deficiency. Did you know that overconsumption of animal products has been linked to cancer?"

"You sound like a doctor already."

"It is also a myth that a diet rich in meat will lead to muscle development."

"I buy other stuff at the market down the street." Jacks' eyebrow twitched, and his gaze skimmed his feet.

"I can't sell you this." Farzan waved the cold cuts at Jacks. "It's past its expiration date." The package flew into the garbage can behind the counter with a thud.

"I'll get another one." Jacks headed over to the refrigerated shelves.

"Don't bother. They're all the same. We only restock on Tuesdays."

Jacks stopped in his tracks and walked back to the register. He realized he had left a crumpled wad of bills and all his loose change on the counter. Luckily, the place was as dead as a morgue. Not many people were out at delis at three in the morning this far uptown.

Farzan was looking around for something behind the counter. When he turned back to Jacks, he had a plastic tub of rice in his hand.

"This is Adas Polo. Basmati rice with lentils and raisins. Very healthy."

Jacks nodded, though he had no idea why Farzan was showing him the stuff.

"I will give you some." Farzan brought out a large size Styrofoam coffee cup and shoveled the rice into it with a plastic spoon.

"No, you don't have to do that."

Farzan didn't seem to hear him. He closed up the cup with a white lid and handed it to Jacks.

"Thanks," Jacks said. He gathered up his money. "What do I owe you?"

"For the Adas Polo, no charge. For the rest, thirty-four dollars and eighty-nine cents."

Jacks fished out a twenty and two tens from the bundle in his hand.

"When are you going to give me the download of the Death Cab for Cutie album?"

Jacks' insides sank. He had been meaning to bring Farzan his memory stick of music downloads. "Sorry, I keep forgetting."

"That's OK. I know you will be back."

He took Jacks' money and gave him his change and his bagged groceries.
