Are we playing dice with our future?

It seems, at least history is our witness, that getting good leaders, that is, in nations with a democratic process (not dictatorial regimes), is a flip of the coin, especially in nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, where a lot of money and strong backers in the billionaire club, strongly influence who actually makes it to the Oval Office or the Prime Minister's seat.

Hasn't history taught us an important lesson, that our system for selection or election of leaders is faulty?

To emphasize the point, consider this.

Would you permit someone who claimed to be a doctor, despite being a billionaire, or successful entrepreneur, or whatever, to operate on you? Would you put your life in their hands just because they claimed to be qualified to do the job without insisting on seeing their credentials?

Would you step into a plane being piloted by someone who claimed to be qualified to fly it, but who was not actually licensed to do so?

Would you consider a building safe to live in if it was built by someone who held no permits or qualifications to do so?

The question could be posed a hundred different ways - but in the end, it speaks to this; why is there no bottom line for political leaders? Anyone can run for a Presidency in a democracy, without having to meet any bottom line in terms of requirements, and yet, no one can fly commercial aircraft, or perform medical services on people, or build bridges, or whatever, without having been schooled, tested and certified to do so - and yet, someone can become the President of a nation without meeting any basic criteria besides possibly the rhetorical skills necessary to sway crowds, and the charisma necessary to get financial backers from the private sector.

Doesn't it make sense that the man or woman running for office, with the power to do great good or great destruction, should have to pass a basic criteria, just like doctors, lawyers, engineers, pilots and others? It doesn't violate democratic principles or capitalistic ideology to require that professionals in any field are required to do so, so why should it be any different for leaders? Especially considering the fact that a President can start wars, maybe even push a button that ends all wars - isn't that reason enough to ensure that candidates for such positions of power are not only demonstrably sane and competent, but are not corrupt or corruptible based on their past?

It's not difficult to set the bar for political candidates - any more than it is to set standards of education and performance for other professions. It's difficult to imagine, considering the history of terrible and destructive leaders, not only in regimes, but in democracies too, that constitutionally speaking, actions have not been taken to protect those very democracies by setting a bottom line for anyone endeavoring to take the helm of the ship.

This "cast-the-dice" approach that has been in vogue - opens the door to very nefarious types, and in the long run, it hurts the people and it strikes at the heart of democracy and freedom.

Some suggested criteria, but certainly not limited to these, could be:

A thorough background check for criminality and criminal associations. A standard of ethical behavior that must reveal someone who cannot be compromised, because as we all know, political power is easily corrupted in the wrong hands. A demonstrable track-record of having done constructive work for the community or nation, not based on money or donations, but actual and significant hands-on contributions to making a better society for people. Demonstrable ability to lead in a positive manner - meaning, inspiring leadership. An electoral platform of how they will improve the nation, state or city, based on facts, what they CAN deliver and not sugar coated fluff or outright hyperbole designed to leverage the emotions of the electorate. The ability to communicate, interact and negotiate with others as would be expected of a diplomat or politic servant. Proof that they can campaign on their own ticket for the candidacy without being bought off with donations from vested interests and wealthy backers in the private sector. In other words, can they run a platform without being bought off.

These are not difficult criteria to meet for those who want to become a leader for the RIGHT reasons - but these criteria would certainly help to sift out those running for office for the wrong reasons and help ensure that the people elected to power have a positive influence on the nation and are working FOR THE PEOPLE and not for the party, or worse, the private sector.

It's time to reform the system to bring about better leaders. We cannot afford in our modern times, more bad leaders, especially with regimes such as Russia, China, North Korea and other nations where the populace is largely shackled by dictatorial processes which prohibit democratic process in this regard.

Good leader - bad leader - is it just luck?

It seems, at least history is our witness, that getting good leaders, that is, in nations with a democratic process (not dictatorial regimes), is a flip of the coin, especially in nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom and elsewhere, where a lot of money and strong backers in the billionaire club, strongly influence who actually makes it to the Oval Office or the Prime Minister's seat.

The Global Rift of 2026

Given the current dynamics in our contemporary geopolitical arena, with Russia segregated from the West due to its tyrannical aggression against Ukraine, and China and several other nations standing by Russia, we see new global dynamics forming, all of which were predicted in my book Earth Escape.

With current trends, by 2026, three major geopolitical camps will be evident, whether by these names or not, the ripples indicate;

The Triumvirate a political alliance of Russia, China, Chad, North Korea, Turkey, Syria and several other African nations, including Venezuela.

The Alliance, a political collaboration formed of the United States, Canada, much of Central and South America, Australia, New Zealand, Britain, the EU, Taiwan, Japan and other South Pacific nations.

The Republic of Islam, a league of Islamic-faith-based nations, who, without compromising their borders, start to unify as a singular entity of their own - who repel Western intervention and anything and anyone which compromises their faith.

While many will claim that the world could not possibly come to this juncture, the dynamics are already in play, and Earth Escape, an epic story to reach an exoplanet before nuclear war destroys us all, clearly shows, as far back as 2016 when it was published, that the global dynamics and trends are indeed heading in that very direction.

We can change it, but so far, we have not.

A quote from the intro to Earth Escape sums it up:

"Three global forces were now racing against inevitable time; the ticking-bomb of tensions between geopolitical powers, Mother Nature (global warming), and a new frontier, space exploration which suddenly opened up new vistas, including the opportunity to find a new home for mankind. The question is - which one wins?"

What is the value of books?

Since the advent of eBooks (ePub, Kindle, etc.) and independent publishing platforms, book promoters and major book sellers have encouraged and/or enabled authors to either sell their books for next to nothing ($00.99) or give them away for free based on the premise that by doing so they would gain more readership.

Statistically speaking, it isn't a workable platform for most authors, and certainly not fair exchange when you consider that the average author spends six months to a year, or more, writing a book. No other profession in the world gives away their hard-won work for the cost of a cheap hamburger or for free.

I'm not judging authors who give away free books or offer them for $00.99 - I am simply advocating that authors deserve a lot better for their hard work and inspiration.

My books are reasonably priced at the minimum threshold I consider acceptable, moreover, for the value I provide my readers.

Can Ai stop dictators and war?

Ai or Artificial Intelligence, which essentially amounts to machines/computers demonstrating their own intelligence without human involvement, has reached a level in contemporary society where Ai can drive cars, fly planes, operate machinery and even execute complex life-saving surgeries.

Current advances in Ai have also opened the door to an entirely different form of warfare, where drones not only provide reconnaissance, but effective attacks too.

The question, which no doubt, developers and investors in Ai tech have posed, or played with, is just how far can Ai be used, ethically and legally.

When it comes to dictators, such as Vladimir Putin or Kim Jong-un (North Korea), men who use human beings as cannon fodder, but who ultimately have the ability and compulsion to use their nuclear arsenal against the world, should Ai be engaged to stop them well before the fact of war?

How does one measure the level of madness of men who happily send thousands of people to die in senseless wars, fighting and killing for no other reason than to aggrandize their own power? Do we trust that they have sufficient moral compass to draw the line when it comes to using nuclear weapons? It’s hardly reasonable to assume that Vladimir Putin, pressed to the wall and losing his battle in Ukraine, will not resort to using his nuclear arsenal as his final ace card? He has over 7,000 nuclear weapons at his disposal, more than any nation in the world – and cornered by the international community, why wouldn’t he?

Madmen, like him and Kim Jong-un, dictators who are so narcissistic and ego-driven, that the deaths of thousands, or millions, means nothing compared to their own self-centered survival.

Naturally, war is an industry today, putting trillions of dollars into the pockets of private military contractors, investors, financial institutions and even politicians who benefit from its continuance – but that is a discussion for another time.

I propose that the likes of Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, can be effectively nullified using Ai. Imagine this scenario: an advanced computer algorithm that can penetrate any digital security walls, capable of neutralizing nuclear launch sites, penetrating the digital vaults where Putin and Kim Jong-un have placed the billions they have stashed away, and moreover, emptying the military accounts so that the machinery of war in Russia and North Korea are brought to stop?

What if that Ai, working in tandem with a crime-fighting team, opened a corridor to get to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, an opportunity to bring two of the world’s most nefarious criminals to the stand trial in The Hague as war criminals?

Is it possible that an Ai could accomplish the above without the necessity of sending thousands of young men and women to die in brutal war, or worse, putting the human race on notice if the nukes start flying?

The 9th Divinity, the 4th book in the Keeno Crime Thriller series, while an exciting and thrilling read, poses to you, the reader, and the world at large, that maybe the days of conventional warfare are over, and with Ai, we have the means of bringing dictators, such as Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, to their knees before they can bring about catastrophe and without the need of wars. It’s a contentious proposition, one which old-school military boys and those invested in the industry of war will vehemently oppose, because if a single Ai can accomplish the above without all the machinery of war, who profits from that?

“Terrifyingly well written and so realistic! From a master of suspense, an activist for human rights and against nuclear weapons, comes a disturbingly believable story of people who are ready to risk their lives—and AI is of a great help for it—to save the humankind from governing sociopaths and criminals. Though fiction, it is not.” – Marina Osipova, author

What if aliens rejected us?

While Hollywood and conventional mediocrity tend to depict "aliens" from other worlds as the "bad guys" - what if it was the reverse?

What if alien visitations to our world (of which there are countless documentations of such which even the U.S. military establishment cannot conceal) resulted in them returning to their home worlds and declaring, "Nope, no way, we don't want to get near those guys?"

In my book Earth Escape, a space odyssey where captain Jim Tale and his crew of the Evolution, are sent on a 29-year mission to reach a nearby exo-planet and colonize it before Earth, now facing the likelihood of nuclear war, is on the precipice of an existential event, shockingly encounters the unexpected.

Did you ever consider that the "aliens" might not want humanity colonizing a nearby planet? That possibly they don't view us as good neighbors; with our constant wars, racism, greed and suicidal rise of weapons of mass destruction?

Earth Escape presents a different perspective - one that defies the usual depiction and a story that takes the reader to the very edge of the Universe in this high-speed space odyssey.

Herb Baker, formerly with NASA, had this to say in his foreword to the book:

"Have you ever wondered how our universe was created? Was it the hand of God – or was it the Big Bang? Or even a combination of the two? Or is there another explanation? If you are interested in debates on that subject, this is the book for you. And for space nuts like me, examining those questions in the context of the most daring space mission ever attempted from Earth makes this book’s adventure one that I wish did not have an end."

Is there an alternative to war?

To even pose such a question in the face of a global military industrial complex today, one where war is an industry of profit more than anything else, is to be challenged. Nevertheless, the majority of the world's population prefers peace over the constant conflicts and wars, particularly those started by dictators such as Vladimir Putin.

The question is, can we avoid war, or at the very least, can we stem it before it becomes a global issue that affects millions, destroys cities and forces millions to flee such as we see in Ukraine today.

The answer is YES.

The real question is WHY ISN'T IT BEING DONE?

In earlier decades, war was a matter of numbers, throwing men and women into the battlefield and with enough spilled blood, someone eventually won.

Today it's about technology, or at least, it should be.

We see it in the Ukraine today, with drones being used by both sides, where Ukraine is using them to take out tanks and the Russians are using them to assault civilian targets. But that is just one tiny aspect of drone technology. Drones exist today which are smaller than a plum, and with the advanced Ai technology built into them, they are capable of infiltrating most security nets, and providing not only reconnaissance about an enemy, but in fact, capable of delivering a weapon to a specific target or location.

Given that fact, it becomes both a question of morality and humanity. Should a simple drone, no larger than a plum, be used to penetrate the Kremlin and eliminate the dictator who is destroying an entire nation? Or is it better to continue a protracted war, where thousands are dying every month, where cities are being eviscerated, while the military industrial complex in many nations, largely private contractors, are making billions of dollars in profit feeding that war machine?

One man or millions? It is a question of the greater good.

If we had this technology in World War II, would there have been any doubt or question about the morality of using it to eliminate one man, Hitler, and stop a global war? I don't think so.

So, once again, the question becomes, why are the massive military establishments around the globe, and the governments who control them, not using the technology to stop Putin in his tracks? Moreover, why are they continuing to let young men and women die in the battle fields when the war could be ended in one day?

The answer to that question is not difficult. It's not based on principles. Its founded on the matter of profits. If you can stop the dictators who start wars, then you don't need massive military complexes, you don't need the machinery of war, and private contractors then lose MASSIVE profits. It's not conspiracy, its about the dollars and cents - pure math.

About the book:

As two dictators, with over 7000 nuclear weapons between them, enough to turn our world into a smoldering heap, continue to threaten global peace, democracy and stability, a mystery group in Canada calling themselves the 9th Divinity, penetrates the Kremlin and issues a public mandate directly to Vladimir Putin - cease your invasion of Ukraine and dismantle Russia's nuclear arsenal, or face the worst. They go on to sabotage North Korean nuclear silos - sending its dictator, Kim Jong-un, into a spiraling rage. As the crisis mounts, Canada's top anti-terrorism team is called into action, but can they stop the 9th Divinity? And with world powers already failing to bring a halt to the Russian and North Korean threat, should they? A twisted, contemporary geopolitical and crime thriller that will haunt you.

Reviews:

"If you want to explore the very real struggles facing the world today through an exciting, well-written political thriller then The 9th Divinity is the book to choose. It’s a compelling concept and a story that might well haunt your thoughts for a long time to come."

- Mr. D.J. Luddington

"In his latest crime thriller, Real takes the reader across continents fighting the big players in nuclear warfare. Readers get a picture of the devastations in Ukraine that shook the world as well as a glimpse into a nuclear disaster that very well could happen. The sociological insights into the minds of sociopathic leaders and how it leads to mass compliance in their citizens is impressively weaved into the story. With compelling storytelling skills, Real makes us question our shared responsibility in the disasters of the millennium."

- Dr. Anuradha Prathap (PhD)

"Mr. Laplaine is at it again! Keeno the Canadian superhero, goes international as he joins a brilliant accomplice taking on the two world's biggest sociopaths; Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin, and on the brink of World War Three all is made right again except for one terrible disaster. Through the dialogues written, he dares us to listen to his political view about the attitudes of not only the bad guys but also the nonchalant public who allow these types to influence us and rise up to such power for their own benefit. As a read I found it riveting and everyone should read it."

- Joseph. B

Very much enjoying this new delivery in this series. Current international events, high tension and an insightful view of the madness that our planet is experiencing. Laplaine keeps getting better and better, it is hard to put down. Highly recommended.

- Andrea S.

Opening The 9th Divinity is thought-changing and mindset-shifting. It's takes you to a different level though. It's emotionally rich, raw and so real as the characters dive deeper into the sad state of our world. As I read, and I do love a thrilling, suspenseful novel, I keep finding moments and details I can understand, as we are living it today... Hopefully we can learn from some of the paths this book travels and that war is not the answer.

What if Marilyn had a chance to tell us what really happened?

We've all heard the story... she apparently committed suicide, which makes a whole lot of sense when you consider she was only 36 years old and one of the most successful and celebrated women in the world at the time - so yeah of course, suicide is logical, or is it?

Apparently she was having a fling with JFK, apparently, and besides that, Hoover of FBI fame, had his claws into her life because he suspected her of having Communist ties, one of his favorite mantras - so maybe, just maybe, the whole "suicide" story is a myth.

After reading what Marlon Brando had to say about her death, and he knew her well, I decided to take license and give the iconic blond a chance to tell the world what really happened on that fateful night.

Stretch your imagination a bit, but otherwise, enjoy the magic of Marilyn as she returns from the grave with a mission in Dead but not Gone.

[image error][image error][image error]

About Dead but not Gone:

What would Marilyn tell us if she came back from the grave today - sixty years after her death?

Would she agree with the popular version that she committed suicide at the age of 36, one of the most successful and celebrated women of her time? Or would she tell us another story, the one about the Hollywood icon who had her foot inside the White House, who was on Hoover's FBI watch list because of suspected communist ties - someone he considered a threat?

In Dead but not Gone, the author takes license and presents us with a chance to hear Marilyn's side of what happened on that fateful night.

When a solar flare intercepts a passing cosmic anomaly, a powerful flash sweeps across Los Angeles directly over the spot where Marilyn lies since 1962. Her crypt suddenly shakes and rattles, and what emerges is certainly not the skeletal remains of the iconic blonde, but rather, Marilyn, just as beautiful and whole as the day she died. When she realizes that the Universe has given her a second chance, she sets herself on a mission to tell the world what really happened to her and at the hands of whom - and therein begins a thriller with a romantic edge. Dead but not Gone is a tribute to Marilyn - giving her the voice she never had after her tragic passing and letting her grace the world with a little more of her magic.

Reviews:

"I loved the premise of this book, I found the pace good, I liked the story. I think my only drawback would be for a bit more detail, but overall, I really enjoyed the story and the possibility of "WHAT IF". No one really knows what did happen, I liked how the author gave some plausible possibilities, that could be true of what happened to her." Francis L.

“Finally, a book that gives a different look at Marilyn, and a happy ending that she rightly deserves!!!!!! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was the science part of the book, it drugged on a little too long. But in all a Great Book!!!! Marilyn fans if only this was true.” DJ

Conspiracy Theory and the culture of silence

What would you do if you overheard people planning a terrorist attack on your nation?

Who would you report it to?

How would you prove it?

The 9/11 incident in 2001 teaches us that any story can be played out, and given enough authoritative muscle, people will buy it.

And yet, ample evidence has since come forward from unbiased engineers and investigators around the globe, showing that the Twin Towers were not brought down by the two planes striking them, whereas actual evidence shows explosives going off at various places down the towers, causing them to collapse in their footprint. Investigators have shown that Thermite, which burns through steel girders, was present and used to cut through the very stanchions holding up those buildings.

Conspiracy Theory is a powerful tool to nullify and silence the voice of truth, and those in positions of power, since 2001, and before, have used that mantra to shoot down any other statement than the one that serves their purposes.

About the book:

Some sources say that upwards of 10% of the population have had at least one out-of-body-experience in their lifetime, the sensation of actually floating above the body at whatever distance. Troy Evans had his first out-of-body-experience at a young age when he fell from a tree and nearly cracked his skull, where he found himself hovering above first-responders and medical personnel trying to save his life. As the years went on, he experienced more of them, minus the trauma of falling from trees. By his mid-twenties, now an established graphics designer in Minneapolis, Troy occasionally hones his skills in secret. No one knows that he can leave his body at will and return to it, and over the years, he's learned to differentiate sensations and things he sees. One night, quite inexplicably, while drifting to sleep, he casually hovers above his body and is suddenly drawn to a strange scene half a continent away in Baltimore, Maryland, to a room in a hotel where several men are clandestinely speaking about a domestic terrorist attack, one they are planning to launch against the nation. He sees their faces, but he doesn't know who they are.

Shocked by the experience, he reports the matter to Homeland Security, and within days, Federal agents storm his apartment and take him into custody; followed by a rapid trial where Troy finds himself labelled a terrorist and a danger to society and is placed in a maximum-security mental facility.

Troy tries to convince his therapist, who is assigned to treat him, that he is telling the truth and that he has been railroaded there to shut him up. He finally proves to her that what he is saying is the truth and that within a matter of days, the attack on the nation is going to happen. She helps him escape his prison, and together they run, attempting as they go to contact different authorities to get their help in stopping the debacle, but no one will listen, and those behind the plot are on their trail. As the clock ticks down, the question is, can they stop it and who will listen to two fugitives on the run, especially a man who claims to have witnessed the whole thing while experiencing an out-of-body. A fast-paced thriller with the colors of 9/11 painted on its canvas.
