Scarpa Biography Achieves #1 Ranking in New Releases!

Even though the book is currently only available for prerelease orders as an eBook, this week, Greg Scarpa, Legendary Evil reached #1 on Amazon’s “Hot New Releases” of organized crime biographies. Not a bad start. The release date is still set for 10 days from today, on July 22nd. In the meantime, work on the audiobook version, the interior layout, and the paperb...

Podcast to Promote My Mafia Gangster Biography
Last week I had the pleasure of being a guest on True Crime Talk, a podcast that is the brainchild of my publisher, WildBlue Press. We spent about an hour talking about my new book, Greg Scarpa, Legendary Evil. If all continues to go well with the book’s production, the podcast episode will drop on the Thursday or Friday before the book’s official release date of July 22nd.
The session was my second experience as a podcast guest, the firs...

Release Date Set for Mafia Gangster Biography!

If all continues to go well, Greg Scarpa, Legendary Evil will be released on July 22nd. It is currently available for prerelease order on Amazon in its eBook form and will soon be available for prerelease order in hardcover and paperback too.
I started this project nearly three years ago, conducted research for about a year before writing a word, finished the first draft in March of last year, queried 43 agents...

Line Edits Are Done; On to Proofing!

After a week of serious time in the chair, plugging away at each of my editor’s changes and comments, I was able to send the latest version of my Greg Scarpa biography manuscript back to my publisher, WildBlue Press. Lots of meticulous work and not much else these last several days, but now that the work is done, it feels as if we’re over the hump, at least as far as the content of the book goes. The i...

Line Editing my Soon-to-be-Released True Crime Biography
Phase II of the editing process of my Greg Scarpa biography manuscript is underway at WildBlue Press. This phase is characterized by a focus on line edits. Honestly, I had to look up what line edits are. Turns out, they’re about what they sound like. According to www.masterclass.com, “A line editor works line-by-line, tightening up sentence structure so the language is sharp and clear. They look closely at how a writer’s word choice and syn...

The Process and Timing of Publishing a True Crime Biography
Phase I of the editing process of my Greg Scarpa biography manuscript is complete. I turned the manuscript around today by responding to my editor’s solid substantive suggestions and keen, professional eye for minutia. We’ll soon see what phase II at WildBlue Press looks like. So far, so good.
The timing for the book feels about right. As it turns out, is working on a movie about a brief period of Scarpa’s life, one that I cover in chapter...

Greg Scarpa Biography to be Published!

It has been more than a year since I completed the first draft of my Greg Scarpa biography. I received an offer of publication a couple of months later. I declined the offer for reasons of my own, reasons that had nothing to do with the prospective publisher. Two weeks ago, WildBlue Press reached out to me inquiring about the book’s status. I was surprised and delighted to hear from them. I let them know the book was stil...

Back to Square One+

It’s been a year of ups and downs on the writing front. On the up side, I finished the biography I was working on and started searching for an agent and/or a publisher for the book. I was offered a publication contract but ultimately decided to decline it due to my own misgivings about some of the contract’s terms. For the next several months I dealt with a steady stream of rejections and nonresponses, so much so that I to...

Publication Agreement!
Many different models of writing exist. For me, the model depends on the task. When I write a book, I do so in solitude. When I write a script, I often do so in partnership. My most recent book is my first book-length work of nonfiction. After nearly two years of research and writing I had a manuscript ready for marketing to publishers and agents. That process is, in my approach, when the judgments I made each day as I created so...
