Happy holidays, all--

Is it just me, or has this been the busiest holiday season ever? And how is it that it crept up on me? I mean, I know it's coming, and I spend several months thinking about the upcoming holidays, and looking forward to them, but then it seems as if in one day--the day after Thanksgiving, in fact--I go from anticipating the holidays to being behind. Every year I swear that I'm going to shop ahead and wrap ahead and bake ahead, and then what happens? It sneaks up on me AGAIN and I spend the...

Holiday Countdown

Hey everyone--

Well, it finally happened. Winter came to the Pacific Northwest. Not a in a big, white snowstorm kind of way, but baby, it's cold outside. Cold and crisp and absolutely beautiful. It makes it easy to think about fun family get togethers. And as soon as I get my shopping done, I'm definitely going to start preparing for some family fun. I'm especially excited because this year--for the first time in forever--we're going to get to share Christmas morning with my dad and his wife a...

Time to par-tay!

Hey everyone---
The news is finally out! My publishers have been working hard to come up with a fun event to promote the release of Winter Garden. And I have to say that they have definitely done some out of the box thinking.

How about 1,ooo parties, happening all at the same time, all across the country? What a rockin' idea. Women getting together to talk about books and life and everything in between. What could be better--and who doesn't need a good old fashioned girlfriend party after the ...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone--

Hello everyone---

Well, here I am doing the same thing that all of you are probably doing right now---surfing foodnetwork.com for new recipes, grocery shopping, table setting, and trying to manage my time so that I can get everything done on time. Well, not really on time--what I really want is to get it all done early so that I can enjoy my guests. As most of you probably know, my son is coming home from college for the holidays, and there's nothing I enjoy more than hearing his stories...

Winter Garden contest!

Welcome to winter! I know it hasn't officially begun yet, and as I look out my window onto the Pacific Northwest, all I see is rain, rain, and more rain, but I know that the seasons are changing, and for the first time in forever, I actually have a book coming out that is set in the winter. Thanks so much to friend Jill Marie Landis for this beautiful, gorgeous photograph of winter. I hate to taunt you all, but you'll know how perfect this picture is once you get a chance to read Winter...

Miracles do happen: I updated the website!!

Hey everyone--

Well, I have to say, now I know why it takes me so long to "revamp" the website. It takes a remarkable amount of time and energy to figure out what I have to say and how to say and to put pictures along with it. And you all know that I'm a low energy gal. :) I have to throw out a big thank you to Kim for her amazing help with this project. As with so many of my best intentions, without Kim, they would probably never come to fruition.

So first of all, here's the link, just to...

Happy Halloween!

Hello everyone--

Happy halloween to all of you! In honor of the scary holiday, I am sending you this photo of my family on a road trip in the seventies. What could possibly be scarier than a family road trip? Am the the one in the oh-so-hip black vinyl boots. I have to say, I always remember my mom in that color. Isn't she lovely? And are my brother's pants a riot, or what?As I sit here, typing away, it is actually not raining here in the Pacific Northwest. It's 3:30 pm, and there's no rain...

A big firefly welcome to Rebecca Wells!!!

Hello again---

I know it's been a while, but a few months ago, I promised you all that the fabulous Rebecca Wells would be stopping by on the blog to say a few words to you. Between her busy schedule and mine, it's taken a little while to put the whole thing together, but when you read her very cool essay, I think you'll agree with me that it was worth the wait. It's exactly who Rebecca is--open, honest, spiritual, and thoughtful. You can find out more about her and her books at
