Victim-Blaming and the Presumption of Innocence

A caveat: I am a strong believer in the necessity of the presumption of innocence. However, I have recently witnessed first-hand how in some cases, the presumption of innocence spurs a criminalization of the victim. This needs to stop.

As some of you know, I just got off jury duty for a several-weeks-long domestic violence case. The defendant was a white, middle-aged professional male. The victim was a Chinese woman who was married to another man, but had carried on a long term relationship wi...

What we talk about when we talk about pockets

A few weeks ago trillian_stars and I were out somewhere and she asked "Oooh, can I get a cup of coffee?" and I thought "why are you asking me? You don't need permission....

Iron Man 3 Review - Don't Bother

Warning: This review contains spoilers and assumes you have seen the film. I have no interest in rehashing through summary.

I went to the movies yesterday and I watched ALL the Iron Man: Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and the premiere of Iron Man 3. Loved the first movie, enjoyed the second, adored the third...

Hated Iron Man 3. It was mediocre-bordering-on-bad. I am offended by its existence. The whole setting-it-during-Xmas schtick was a pointless inclusion of a director's trademark...

Not Ready for Prime Time

Wow. Assignments went up quicker than I expected!

First off, thank you, oh author-mine, for volunteering to feed my id. My thoughts here are a little meandering and messy, but I hope they provide good fodder for you to use.

Thor (movies)
Thor and/or Loki

I gobble up this pairing like nobody's business, so I'm pretty easy. There are so many different aspects of their dynamic that I love: brotherhood, Loki's jealousy and irritation at a society that clearly doesn't value his superior intel...

More fanfic

It also occurs to me that I never posted the fics that I wrote for Yuletide (and the New Year's Resolution I posted after Yuletide was over).

Here they are. Two are elfporny goodness based on an old Mercedes Lackey Bard's Tale novel tie in. One is a missing episode of Community filled with Renaissance Faire shenanigans.

Death and the Dancing Girl
Fandom: Bard's Tale/Castle of Deception by Mercedes Lackey
Pairing: Naitachal/Eliathanis
Teaser: Death is no barrier to a necromancer.
Rating: Elfporny, N...

Lore-porn

I wrote a World of Warcraft fic for an exhange, and it has now gone public. It is chock-full of Lore with a little soupçon of porn to wash it down. Read it here:

A Swatch of Red
Fandom: World of Warcraft
Pairing: Mathias Shaw/Edwin VanCleef
Teaser: It takes a long time to build a friendship, and only one betrayal to end it.
Rated: Explicit; Loretastic; Alliance Dogs

Encounters with Assholes - and one nice mechanic

I live above a bar. Not just a bar, but a real dive bar. I like most elements of my apartment, and even the bar doesn't bother me most of the time, but yesterday situation become untenable.

Yesterday morning when headed out to my car to drive to work, I discovered that some asshole had pried open the cover to my gas tank, removed the cap, and stuffed a white t-shirt into the hole.

Okay. Annoying.  I figured someone had just siphoned some gas, so I removed the t-shirt, bent the flange back...

You No Take Fanfic!

Edit to my anon author: I am SO sorry I never made this visible!  Please feel free to ignore everything here, since it didn't get posted until way late. Trust me, I'm so very easy to please with any of these pairings :)

Request 1 Koltira Deathweaver/Thassarian I love these guys. Any point in their relationship is fine, and you can take it from bromancy to necromancy and all shades in between. Bonus points for hot sex, angst, and/or the two of them playing Alliance/Horde animosit...

Hello Fanfic my old friend...

It's all because I forgot to bring my lunch today.

I was standing in line at my work's cafe, waiting for my grilled cheese to go with my tomato soup, when Flashdance... What a Feelin' came on.

Before I knew it, I was absently bopping my head and mouthing along.

Before the song ended, I had an overwhelming desire to watch the film again. I mentioned this to a co-worker. He pointed out that Flashdance is on Netflix. Nooooo! I thought (and said) Noooooo! It will be bad. It will be so bad. It will b...
