What Doesn’t Suck About Being Alone. ~ Stephanee Killen

It is our fear that keeps us at a distance from others—and from ourselves. It is fear that causes us to build walls. But our inner sentries do not protect our most sacred self. Instead, they protect the terrified ego—the belief that by controlling a situation or people through manipulation,...

I was naive enough to believe that those emotionally unavailable, mysterious and brooding Adonises must be hiding radiant pearls inside all that protective casing. Shakespeare, in The Merry Wives of Windsor, said,”Why then the World’s mine Oyster, which I, with sword will open.” [...]

Great Expectations: Don’t Have Any. ~ by Stephanee Killen | elephant journal

We all understand the concept of being of service to others, but the following reality is far more common: I’m going to disappoint you.

We’ll be going along just fine and then all of a sudden, I may behave in a way you’d rather I didn’t. I may say something that hurts your feelings or keeps you from getting what you want from me, and I’m sorry.

The good news, in the midst of all this disappointment is that regardless of whether we are always capable of being of service to others, we will never...
