We’re All Just a Mere Breath

This morning, over on Writes of Passage (where I blog with Tamera Alexander, Judith Miller, Kim Vogel Sawyer, Tracie Peterson, and Cathy Marie Hake), in answer to a challenge issued by Tracie, I posted my high school Senior photo, plus a few more to show the passing of time. I thought I would subject those of you who visit my personal blog to the same.

My baby photo. Taken … cough, cough … years ago.

Goodreads

I joined Goodreads several years ago, but I confess I never got very far with it.But I finally had some time and some incentive to familiarize myself with this social media platform for readers. I think I’ll get the hang of it.

Anyway, below are just five of my books listed and reviewed on Goodreads. If you are already a participant on Goodreads, I hope you’ll look me up.

My Journey as a Writer

photo.JPG

Back in 2005, I decided to start a new blog that focused only on telling my writing journey, in the order it happened (to the best of my memory and with the help of my journals). I called the blog Fact and Fiction, and in it, I told my story, beginning with my early love of books up through 2006. At that point, I let the blog go dormant as I wasn’t sure I had anything more relevant to say.

Now that I have combined the posts from my four different blogs into this single location, I thought new...

Cover Matters

Yesterday, the following post was featured on ACFW’s blog, but I wanted to make certain my regular readers got to see it.

It’s a bold new world for writers. No doubt about that. Not all that long ago, there was a traditional path to publishing that the vast majority of novelists followed. The digital age has changed things so much in the last two years, I hardly know where to begin.

It used to be I always discouraged any writer from self-publishing. Now I simply caution them to be careful. Don’...

Remembering My Mom on Her Birthday

Today would have been my mother’s 99th birthday. In the two and a half years since she graduated to heaven, I’ve learned that a daughter never stops missing her mom, no matter how old that daughter becomes.

Here are a few photographs of mom and the family.

family before me

The above picture was taken in Payette, Idaho where my aunt and uncle lived. Mom and dad (Dad standing and holding a camera, Mom at his side) would have been newlyweds because there is no sign of my brother or me. In the photo are my grandpar...

Survivor (Sofa) Fan

101916_d1921bThis Wednesday, it’s the start of another season of Survivor. Season 26, and another Fans versus Favorites theme. And yes, I’ll be watching.

It was my youngest daughter who got me hooked on the show. She was a big fan and wanted to be a contestant. She tried out for Survivor many moons ago. So I started watching, just in case she got picked. She didn’t, but by that time, I was completely sucked in.

There is a Boise contestant among the Fan tribe this year. Her name is Sherri (in the photo, she’...

Testing versus Tempting

fireI got a great reminder this past week.

Tempting and testing are not the same thing. The Bible tells us that God never tempts anyone, but He does test His children. Test means to prove. A test puts us through the Refiner’s fire and burns away those traits that aren’t good for us.

Testing is done by God tostrengthenus and tobuild us upand tohelp us succeed.

Tempting is done by Satan toweakenus and totear us downand tomake us fail.

Great reminders, yes, especially in seasons of testing.
