Fangirl moment over covers
I was reminded of an earlier blog post that was lost in the blog disaster earlier this year when I saw the news that the first two books in the Jill Shalvis Animal Magnetism series will be getting new covers. I’d shared that last year I added Lora Leigh’s Wild Card to my TBR pile, while I was on a romantic suspense jag, and then forgot about it until Bella Andre tagged it on the USA Today HEA blog as one of her favourite books–and it had a different cover, this one a set of dog tags, and it grabbed my eye. When I read the blurb, it sounded familiar, and when I popped over to Goodreads, I understood why.
Covers are a big deal, because they (can) convey a lot of information about your book to potential readers. I liked Jill’s original covers, but I like the new editions as well, and they definitely match Books 3 & 4. Of course, the most important thing is the story between the covers, and that’s where I get embarrassingly squeal-tastic over Jill, and Brady. If you haven’t read Animal Magnetism, book 1 in the series (Lilah & Brady), you should rectify that immediately. In fact, I think I’ll re-read it soon myself.

I’m visiting the Novel Thoughts blog today, talking about characters, book covers and my addiction to stock photos. There’s also a sneak peek of Karen and Paul, the characters in Wardham Book 2, Where Their Hearts Collide.

This isn’t about me, except in how it’s about all of us
So something awful happened, over the last few weeks and months. Bloggers and readers were scammed into supporting a “new author”. Yesterday, the deception was revealed by DearAuthor.com, and the reading/writing community banded together to figure out just how deep this went. Today, a tweet by Angela James led me to Teresa Mummert’s site where the deception was mapped out in a crazy infographic. And then I realized that, in a little tiny way, I was connected to this drama. Because I joined the Sexy Romance to connect with readers willing to do early reviews of new books.
And the reviews I got were thoughtful and considered, and honest. Above all else, I truly feel like the readers and other writers in this group were innocent in all of this. I know this in my gut because yesterday there was a thread about Amazingly Broken, full of comments about how to request a refund. That thread is now gone. It didn’t occur to me at the time to take a screen capture of it.
So here’s a screen cap of my posting Teresa’s blogpost to the group. I hope it stays up, but as “Beth” is a group moderator, I’m not holding my breath.

Isn’t this meta … a blog post about blogs
There is a lot of awesomeness in this post, brace yourself! If you haven’t gotten your coffee yet, if you need to take a minute…go, do that. I’ll wait.
Okay, ready?
First of all, and this isn’t blog related, but I need to take a second to rave about the awesome Goodreaders who read ARCs of What Once Was Perfect and said some really nice things about it. Follow that link and you’ll see (27 and counting) positive ratings. Of my little book!!! Universal agreement: Laney and Kyle have an amazing love story. The elevator scene is getting a lot of play, too.
That leads me to awesome point No. 2! WOWP was reviewed on a book blog last night, it made its virginal debut and …. drum roll please … that rocked too! Caitlyn at Made For You Book Review gave it 5/5 stars. You should check out her blog, she has excellent taste in books! You can also follow her on Twitter @madeforyoubooks.
Finally, a heads up about a few blogs I’m going to visit in next few weeks:
At a TBD date in the next little while, I’ll be at Say What Savannah Mae’s website, discussing the “dark moment” in romance novels – To Angst or Not to Angst? I’ll make sure to share the post here and on Twitter when it goes live.
Sofia Grey is hosting a month of awesome authors, including Laura Kaye, Ella Frank, Lissa Matthews, and of course, ME, on July 3! I’m going to have so many embarrassing fan girl moments, it’s going to be ridiculous.
The theme is July Fever, and I’m going to be talking about nice guys, and just how feverish they can make the women to whom they are kind, generous and understanding. Nice is the New Hot, I promise!
Check out Sofia’s website, or keep an eye on my Facebook and Twitter pages – I’ll post links when the month starts, and when it’s my turn to share some sizzle.
And then on July 10, I’ll be at Novel Thoughts. I’m not sure what that blog should be about – any suggestions? What’s your favourite thing that authors share? Excerpts? Interview-style posts? Give me an idea and I’ll run with it!

Goodreads giveaway to celebrate the paperback release July 1
Goodreads is one of my favourite websites. I’ve long used it to to keep track of my TBR list (which is crazy long), and more recently, I’ve discovered it’s a great place to connect with fans. In celebration of the paperback release of What Once Was Perfect, I’m giving away copies to 3 lucky Goodreaders. Want to know a secret? They’ll be signed! Wouldn’t have it any other way.
You should join Goodreads, and the giveway too!

What Once Was Perfect (Wardham Book No. 1)
Heading home always stirs up mixed emotions for Laney Calhoun. Twelve years ago she left for graduate school, broken-hearted. She’s found professional success, but positive personal relationships have proved elusive. Running into her ex-boyfriend fans flames she thought long extinguished, and causes a renewed interest in love. Not with Kyle, of course. Never again. But as sparks fly and items of clothing disappear, she scrambles to keep her emotions in check.
Kyle Nixon let Laney slip away once. Their chemistry together is undeniable, but steamy sex is not enough to convince her to let him back into her heart. Even if she did trust him again, her medical career is five hundred kilometers away from the hometown that he loves, and the life that he once chose over her.
What Once Was Perfect is a short and sexy contemporary romance novel set in Wardham, Ontario, a fictitious small farming community on the shores of Lake Erie.
