raise the inspiration: take a walk
Hello Poetteers,
Taking a walk is known as an exercise for your physical body. It is also an exercise for your mind. The fresh air clears your head. Go by yourself or with a friend.
A couple days ago during #PoetteerChat we talked about inspiration. Everyone had something different to share. I focused on how taking a walk makes space for inspiration. Here is a recap of what I said.
Inspiration comes randomly. What you do may clear your mind for inspiration. My mind is quiet and empty of clutter. It wanders. No other thought is there to get in the way. Once you feel inspired you feel clear and focused. You feel good.
Sometimes I'll sit or walk the same area but sometimes I'll change it up. I start to notice the same things if I walk the same area. I'll look for new things in that same area. New places bring new thoughts/wanderings.
During my walks I will just walk but I started to jot down my observations. You can write them afterwards but you may forget some. I learned that the hard way. You don't want good things to go to waste. I've had to slow my pace or stop many times to jot down the idea/thought(s). I tried to repeat the though in my head until i'm done but that isn't a good way to go about it. It's not always but sometimes a poem will come to me as I am walking.
It helps bring the inspiration when you need it later. With it I'm able to reimagine thoughts. Maybe those observations can help move a story forward.
Have you noticed anything when you take a walk? What do you do to gain inspiration?

Poetry Prompt: Your Body
Hello Poetteers,
A few months ago I shared the same prompt. Some of us love our bodies while others have trouble loving our body. I hope this prompt brings you a step closer to loving your body. Questions are already available in the old prompt but for more questions to help you check out the video below. Share your responses in the comments below or on any socials, #dailypoetrygram.
Example:
Feet keep me grounded
shows me the softness of the earth
lead me to where I need to be
I'm learning and growing.

raise the inspiration: be outside
Hello Poetteers,
One way I gain inspiration is by being outside. You can walk barefoot on the grass, lay down, watch the clouds. All those cheesy and cliche things. They actually work. You are observing parts of the world you don't notice day by day because we are constantly busy. Seeing the beauty gets your mind wandering.
The sky is vast, the stars are making constellations. They seem more clear and bright. I was outside the other day after feeling tense and I started to notice it go away. It's unexplainable. The fresh air does something to you. What do you notice?

Never Wrote A Sonnet, Part 2
Hello Poetteers,
I shared my confession of having never written a sonnet. Since then I've attempted a couple times. I made it through the first stanza. Then I made it through halfway. It's all I can do. Rhyming isn't my forte. I don't like how it feels and sounds forced. It's like I'm trying too hard. I never liked rhyming. When I like of rhyming, it's good for light hearted poems; which isn't something I write a lot. My poems deal with heavy emotion.
My attempt at writing a sonnet.
How do you go between writing very different themes?

Raise the inspiration: social media

During my mindfulness post I talked about how limiting your time on social media clears your head and brings in more focus. It also brings space for new ideas.
Being on social media is a time-sunk. Once you go on you forget the important tasks and the time. It is known the we go on it first thing in the morning. One thing I try to do is stop myself from that. Once I get up I exercise and get to work. Once you get started you forget about the distracting social media. For me, I've noticed when I go on social media in the middle of my work load I'm able to catch myself and go on only for what I need. It was hard the first few times. With enough practice it becomes easier.
Another tip that is well known is to delete the apps from your phone. Not being able to see the apps when you turn off your alarm or set your alarm helps to restrict you from going on social media. Have you tried cutting yourself off from social media? What tips do you have?

5. Take a deep breath
6. free write

My All Time Favorites: Stationery
Hello Poetteers,
When I write I always reach for the same pen. As I look for new journals I subconsciously go for the same kind.
Pens - Papermate! I love the multicolor, medium tip flair ones for putting headings. I the profile ones for everyday use. i love the soft grip it has. I like to keep my writing consistent with the black ink.
Journals - Tjmaxx is my favorite place to shop. They have a variety of journals but I my eyes notice the Eccolo Journals. I love the soft cover, the polka dot or stripped end pages, and the ribboned bookmark. They are "embossed or stamped with inspirational motifs and quotes."
What is your favorite stationery?

Ways to Title Your Poems
Hello Poetteers,
Titling your poems can be hard but if you're lucky it can be easy.
1. Make the first line of the poem the title
2. Use the theme/topic you are trying to get across as the title
3. A repeated word or phrase within the poem could be a title
Lastly, have a friend help suggest a title.
