Sleeping my life away
My husband bought us a memory foam mattress and it is heavenly. I have no desire to get out of bed in the morning and can't wait to go to bed at night! On Mother's Day my three-year old's primary teachers asked him what his mom likes to do and he said, Sleep. I do! I'm wondering if we need to go back to our old mattress so I can stop being so lazy :)

Second Chances 101 by Donna K. Weaver

Tour Schedule

Second Chances 101 by Donna K. Weaver
Thirty seven year old Francie Davis, a recent widow and empty nester, gets to attend college at last. She’s sure her luck has changed when she also lands a job on campus that will pay her tuition, as administrative assistant to a history professor. When her handsome new boss yells at her on the first day of work, Francie worries she will never be good enough.
For Professor Alex Diederik, life is going downhill fast. Not only is his bitter ex-wife trying to poison their only daughter against him, but now his one place of solace—his work environment—is being complicated by his attractive new administrative assistant. She drives home his feelings of failure as a husband and father, and Alex wonders if hiring her was the right thing to do.
Francie will have to put aside her hurt and insecurities or risk her dreams, while Alex must look outside himself if he’s to mend the breach with his daughter. And, perhaps, find someone who can help heal his pain.

Donna K. Weaver has always loved reading and creating stories, thus she’s been ever entertained. An avid cruiser, she’s sailed the Pacific five times. Wife-mother-grandmother-Army veteran-karate black belt-Harry Potter nerd.

My Review
This was a really sweet story. I loved the growth in not just the adults relationships but the dad with his daughter. I thought it was great to have a romance between a forty-something couple. Second Chances 101 is another fun addition to this series. I can't wait to keep reading.
EXCERPT
“I heard that laugh.” Sam pointed a finger at him. “What have you been doing? Please don’t tell me you’ve been sitting in that old chair waiting for me.”
“I did read for a while,” Alex confessed before pointing to his screen.
She came to stand behind him and looked at the monitor. “Are you kidding me? Online dating? That’s brilliant. Why didn’t you do this sooner?” She didn’t give him a chance to speak, but pushed him out of his chair and sat in it herself. “Let me help. This will be fun!”
Alex bent over her shoulder to see what she was typing. “Hey, wait a minute.Ripped? Samantha Rosamunde Diederik. Don’t you dare write that. I don’t want to meet some woman and have her find out that everything she thinks she knows about me is a lie.”
“Oh, please, Daddy. You might not be tall, but you have a six-pack. And don’t forget your guns.”
“My what?”
“Your biceps. You are so twentieth century.”
Alex shifted uneasily as she kept typing.

Prejudice meets Pride by Rachael Anderson

After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own.
Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn't afraid to show him that he doesn't. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.

My Review
I always enjoy Rachael Anderson's books and Prejudice meets Pride was another wonderful clean romance. I love how the characters frustrated and intrigued each other. Emma was my favorite, she cared so deeply for her nieces and brothers and was going to stay strong no matter what. The nieces were adorable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a sweet, fun romance.

Excerpt:
“You owe me,” Kevin teased, watching her closely for a reaction.
Guilt appeared first, followed by resignation. She placed her cool hand on his arm. “Would you settle for a thank you? That seems to be all I ever say to you, but I don’t have much else to offer.” She looked so tired, defeated even, as though the rigid strength he’d glimpsed earlier was all used up. What had happened? More than ever, he wanted to pull her into his arms and try to coax some of it back. What was it about her that drew him to her? That made her look beautiful, even next to Nicole, and cause Kevin to miss her when she wasn’t around? Why was his heart suddenly racing like a teenager?
“‘Thank you’ works,” he said, his voice husky.
The corners of her mouth lifted slightly before wilting. She dropped her hand and clasped her fingers together. “Before I lose my nerve, I, uh—need to ask you something.”
When she said nothing more, Kevin prodded, “Yes?”
“I was, uh, just wondering if—” Her lips clamped shut as though she couldn’t force herself to say the words. Her fingers fidgeted, and she couldn’t stand still. It was almost comical watching her fight whatever inner battle was going on in her mind.
“Out with it, Emma,” Kevin said as he fought back a smile.
Her eyes met his for a brief moment before looking down at the floor. “Is that job offer still on the table?” she said in a rush, still looking at her feet.
Anxiety flared in Kevin’s gut for a moment, then quieted almost as quickly. Not only was Emma intelligent and confident, but she was strong and good. She’d do fine.
“Yes,” he said firmly. “The offer is definitely still on the table.”
Hopeful eyes turned up to his—eyes brimming with moisture. She threw her arms around Kevin and hugged him tight. For a few shocked moments, he stood there, wondering what to do. Then he wrapped his arms around her the way he’d wanted to do earlier. As she sniffled into his shirt, he rested his chin on her head. Her hair smelled lightly of cherry blossoms, and her body felt soft and strong at the same time. He didn’t want her to pull away.
But she did eventually. Her eyes were bright with a mixture of defeat and relief. Kevin knew it had cost her a lot to ask him that, yet she’d done it. And he knew exactly who she’d done it for.

Marriage Isn't for You

What is the best marriage advice you ever received?
For author Seth Adam Smith, it was the advice from his father, who said, "Marriage isn't for you. It's about the person you marry." These few words completely change the way Seth looked at his relationship with his wife. His thoughts on the subject became an online phenomenon. Paired with beautiful images, they are now available as a book—the perfect gift for newlyweds, those who are celebrating an anniversary, or anyone who wants to learn how to make a relationship stronger.
My Review:
This is a really sweet book with some fabulous reminders of how to be the kind of marriage partner we all want to be. I loved the sweet advice and the pictures. I'll post in my favorite quote below.

Home Before Dark by Christy Barritt

Nothing good ever happens after dark.
Those were the words country singer Daleigh McDermott’s father always repeated.
Now her father is dead, and Daleigh fears she’s returned home too late to make things right. As she’s about to flee back to Nashville, she finds a hidden journal belonging to her father. His words hint that his death was no accident.
Small town mechanic Ryan Shields is the only one who seems to believe that Daleigh may be on to something. Her father trusted the man, but Daleigh’s instant attraction to Ryan scares her. She knows her life and career, however dwindling it might be, are back in Nashville and that her time in the sleepy North Carolina town is only temporary.
As Daleigh and Ryan work to unravel the mystery, it becomes obvious that someone wants them dead. They must rely on each other—and on God—if they hope to make it home before the darkness swallows them whole.
Home Before Dark offers a blend of Nicholas Sparks meets Mary Higgins Clark, a mix of charming small town life in North Carolina tangled in a gripping suspense.
My Review
I loved this book! Such a fabulous mix of romance, suspense, family, and character growth. I can't wait to read more from Christy Barritt.

Lost & Found by Karey White

Lost and Found by Karey White
Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she's done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it's time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home.
Blake feels like he's been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he's on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he's going home, and that's that. But that's before he discovers his flight has been cancelled.
When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.

My Review
This story is so cute! I cheered for Lydia and Blake through the whole book. I also loved the life lessons learned for Blake, some of which really hit home to me as I would be a workaholic if I didn't adore my boys so much. This is another great addition to the Ripple Effect Romance Series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Karey is a USA Today best-selling author. She grew up in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Missouri. She attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University. Her first novel, Gifted, was a Whitney Award Finalist.

Deadly Alliance by A.L. Sowards

Amidst the darkest days of WWII, will one star-crossed couple's love survive?
When Peter Eddy and his commando team inadvertently upset the Soviets during their most recent mission, they never imagined the diplomatic nightmares that would ensue. They have one chance to redeem themselves: tasked with destroying a bridge in Nazi-occupied Bosnia, Peter and his war-weary team reluctantly agree to drop behind enemy lines. The assignment should be a simple one—were it not for the fact that they are being deployed on a suicide mission.
Genevieve Olivier is devastated by the news of Peter's disappearance. After all they've endured in this war, the determined OSS worker is unwilling to simply let go of the man she hopes to spen her life with. Desperate for information, her work as a courier soon escalates into a counterintelligence duel with a Fascist assassin—and Genevieve is his newest target...
My Review
I've been enraptured by this entire series but this book is my absolute favorite. It's so intense and I adore each of the characters, especially Peter, Genevieve, and Jamie (can he please fall in love at some point?). I seriously bawled at one scene (won't tell you when, but it was terribly sad). It is World War II and the author shows exactly how horrible it would have been so you might want to be careful if you're squeamish. I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it.
