Y.L. Cantrell became an avid reader as a child and was inspired to become a writer by her favorite authors: Terry McMillan, Stephen King, Anne Rice, and Maya Angelou, to name a few. Her first novel, "The Love Makers" was inspired by the movie "The Game" and the TV reality series "The Millionaire Matchmaker". She studied English and Literature and received her B.A. in 1993 from Butler University. Her work is characterized by a multicultural cast of characters with strong female protagonists.
