How to Plan Using the Sun

Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Desiree Roby Antila, author of the new Sun Signs in Love.

Astrology Charts and Autumn Leaves

Desiree Roby AntilaThe Sun is the center of our universe and makes up over 99% of the mass in our solar system—which makes it have the largest effect on us astrologically. In my book Sun Signs in Love I state, “While it’s important to understand that there is more to you than just your sun sign, it is my wholehearted belief that the location of the sun at the moment of the first breath is the key to the true essence of who you are. The characteristics imprinted upon your personality when you drew your first breath were caused by the sun and planets in our solar system exercising their powerful influences through the zones of the zodiac. This magical process is what creates your personal sun sign and natal chart.” When we understand the energetic force that the sun not only has on our own natal chart but also as it transits through the twelve zodiac signs, it gifts us with the insight to harness the Sun’s energy to plan our months by tapping into the three modalities: cardinal, fixed, and mutable. While the Sun travels through each of these modalities four times throughout the calendar year, we can also plan our lives accordingly.

Cardinal Signs
When the Sun is in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) we should initiate projects take things head-on and get things into motion. The cardinal signs kick off every season with either an equinox or solstice, starting our quarterly seasons. It is the perfect time to get things moving and you may even feel your energy spike.

Fixed Signs
When the Sun is in fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius), the production from your initiation starts to come to fruition. This is a great time to contain your energy and channel it into something specific and focused. Use these months to tangibly make your dreams into a reality. This is a time for working hard and getting things complete. During these four months of the year the seasons are in full swing. Staying focused and concentrated is the best way to make the most of these seasons.

Mutable Signs
The mutable signs are the grand finale of every season, and they are a time for change and adjustment. They bring social buzz and interest to our lives. This is a great time to get social and connect with your crew. Conversations are to be had and quality time is to be made. The mutable sign seasons are the most variable because they can easily flicker between work, play, and rest.

Being aware of modality in astrology is a great way to channel your energy, but also a fun way to connect nature to astrology. In Sun Signs in Love I state, “Modality is defined as a way in which something occurs, is experienced, or is communicated.” Therefore, when the Sun is vibrating its energy through the 3 modalities within the year, channel that energy to your advantage to create space for you to manifest your desires.

Knight of Wands in Love

Tarot in Love: Consulting the Cards in Matters of the Heart by Elliot Adam

Elliot Adam, author of the well-loved Fearless Tarot, now guides us through one of the most complex human emotions: love. From the hilarious and completely relatable opening pages Elliot takes our hand reassuringly has he reveals the secrets of love in the cards.

He’s taken a few extraordinary approaches to the material.

First, he gives equal attention to the reversed meanings of the cards, a rare if not unique occurrence. This puts them on equal footing instead of regulating them to the “less than” pile. Second, in addition to the general meaning of each card, he provides meanings for the cards in the areas of: New Relationship, Long-term Partnership, Intimacy, Seeking Romance, Desires for both upright and reversed.

The Knight of Wands can be exciting in a love reading, or so I’ve heard. There are an equal number of stories about how this Knight can be, well, let’s just say, trouble. Let’s see what Elliot has to say about the upright version of this card

Knight of Wands

The Knight of Wands seizes each day with a spirit of adventure and vitality. He (or she) might leave you breathless after your first passionate encounter. The Knight of Wands loves physical activity, movement, and change. He will likely be athletic, enjoying sports or working out. It goes without saying that he also loves sex. His self-confident presence oozes energetic virility. The challenge the Knight of Wands presents is also what makes him so desirably attractive, his roaming spirit of adventure. The Knight of Wands will maintain his freedom for as long as he humanly can. This is not to say that the Knight of Wands can’t fall in love or make a commitment one day. However, he must be at a life stage when his “wild oats” have been satisfactorily sown. Waiting for this Knight can take a very long time… At his best the Knight of Wands is thrilling, sexy, confident, honest, free-spirited, travel-loving, and open-minded. At his worst, he is rebellious, non-committal, evasive, impulsive, and unfaithful.

In a Love Reading:

New Relationship

The Knight of Wands represents a thrilling new romance that’s hard to stop thinking about. There is an insatiable quality to this attraction and this person will always leave you wanting more. Try not to get too “clingy” with the Knight of Wands, or your heart could break. He (or she) may spend years traveling, dating, or moving from place to place before settling down.

Long Term Partnership

The Knight of Wands symbolizes a relationship that has been a wild ride. The very fact you got this person to commit to you is a wonder. Your partnership thrives through travel, freedom, and a change of scene. This card can also signify a long-distance relationship, or a partnership in which both partners spend a lot of time apart.

Intimacy

Intimately, the Knight of Wands can represent an active sex life. Your partner is likely uninhibited and likes to take control. Sex will continue to magnetically pull the two of you together. It’s at the very center of your inexplicable attraction to one another.

Seeking Romance

If you are single, the Knight of Wands tells you to enjoy it! Don’t be in too much of a hurry to settle down. There will be years to enjoy that future partner who’ll be unromantically eating pizza in their underwear on your couch. For now, be free. Flirt, explore, feel sexy, and enjoy your freedom!

Desires

The Knight of Wands desires a partner who doesn’t come off as needy, clingy, or desperate. He prefers to do the chasing and speeds away from being chased. Much like the Charioteer, the Knight of Wands must always feel there is something left to conquer. Love interests who radiate nonchalant, fun-loving sassiness, ensnare his ardor.

Six Signs You Might Be a Hedge Witch

Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Joann van der Hoeven, author of The Book of Hedge Druidry and the new Path of the Hedge Witch.

Joanna van der Hoeven

Hedge Witchcraft is gaining in popularity, as more people are learning about the practice, and how it differs from other traditions of the Craft. Hedge Witches are mostly defined by the practice of hedge riding, a trance technique that enables the practitioner to walk between the worlds. But what are some of the signs that you might wish to explore the tradition of the hedge witch? Here are six, just to get you started:

You have a strong connection to the Otherworld or a fey nature
Often people who have had experience with faery, the Fair Folk, or other people from the Otherworld are well-suited to hedge witchcraft. Those who have seen faeries or spirits of nature, who have worked with the energies of the natural world, who know deep in their bones that there is more to this world that what the eye can see, may indeed become powerful hedge witches. You enjoy a solitary practice
Most hedge witches work alone, and they prefer it that way. There is time and space to truly hear and connect with your local environment, without interference. This is not to say that hedge witches are hermits—far from it. They simply prefer to do their work in their own, guided by their own studies and the experiences of those they have met in the Otherworld. You are interested in how your local ecosystem works
To be a hedge witch, you have got to know your local environment. It is what informs you and your everyday practice. Establishing a good connection and deep relationship with your local patch fills the cup, so to speak. You prefer your practice to be simple and practical
Hedge witches are practical by nature, and prefer to create simple rituals with minimal tools and fuss. They often use what they have around the house, and have only a few special items that they have usually created themselves, or have been gifted by others. If it works, use it!You enjoy using trance techniques
Hedge riding is often done by using trance techniques in order to enable one to “ride the hedge” into the Otherworld. This can be done in myriad ways: through sensory deprivation, rocking and movement, drumming, singing, chanting, and more. You are always willing to explore and learn something new
This is essential, as you have no one else to push you into learning new things and trying out new experiences. Your study and your practice are entirely self-directed, and so alongside the desire to try new things, a little discipline also comes in handy.

These are just a few things that most hedge witches seem to have in common. The practice of hedge witchcraft is available to all who desire to walk betwixt and between, to cross over the boundaries of this world and the next and bring the wisdom that can be found there back into their everyday life for the benefit of all.

Top 3 Signs You’ve Had Past Lives on Other Planets

Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Shelley A. Kaehr, PhD, author of several titles, including Heal Your Ancestors to Heal Your Life, Blast from the Past, Journeys Through the Akashic Records, and the new Past Lives in Ancient Lands & Other Worlds.

Shelley A. Kaehr, PhDAfter twenty-plus years in the field of regression therapy, one of the more common questions I’m asked is, “Do people ever recall past lives on other planets?” My answer is, absolutely yes!

When you think about the vast and unlimited nature of our souls and happen to gaze out into the night sky, you can’t help but think that there must be more to our soul journey than simply experiencing repetitive lives on Earth. Then again, that’s an easy concept for me to come by after growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. With Roswell, the site of the 1947 UFO crash a mere two hundred miles south of where I grew up, believing in all things alien is as natural to me as breathing.

In my book Blast from the Past, I described a phenomenon I call Supretrovie, an externally induced past life memory that comes into consciousness automatically after experiencing certain external stimuli. Our souls know at a deep level where we’ve been in our past. For that reason, you can know right now whether you’ve experienced a prior incarnation in another galaxy. Here are the top three signs you’re not from here:

You Gaze into the Night Sky and Long for Home: This feeling of not belonging and an almost melancholy attitude about the hatred and unexplainable hardships we go through here on Earth is a common theme in past-life regressions. Have you looked at the stars and thought about a home far from here? “This Isn’t How We Do Things Where I’m From!”: You hold a heartfelt desire for loving interactions with others. You may feel completely baffled by the backwards way we sometimes do things here on Earth. You find yourself longing for a more sensible and empathic way to interact with other people and beings and wish that all Earthlings would behave in a more loving way toward each other. You’re Obsessed with Content About Aliens and ETs: Are you like me and find yourself absolutely unable to turn away from thousands of hours of Ancient Aliens Bonus Footage reruns? Do you hunt around on YouTube for content about other worlds and extraterrestrial life forms?

No doubt, we’re living in interesting times. If you’ve experienced any of these Top Three Signs, your feelings are likely emerging because you’re tapping into a memory of your former self!

To find out more, check out my book, Past Lives in Ancient Lands & Other Worlds. In addition to explorations of Greece, Egypt, Rome, and the like, you’ll also read case histories of others who believe they lived in space, and you can take several out-of-this-world guided journeys to find out more details about your otherworldly soul adventures.

Trick or Treat Wishes

Trick or Treat Tarot by Barbara Moore and Jonathan Hunt

The Trick or Treat Tarot is, at first glance, a nostalgic romp through memories of Halloween’s past. It is also a chatty reading deck, which is not surprising as it was designed following the RWS tradition and brought to life by the witty and talented Jonathan Hunt. The book shares in the fun-loving nature of the cards, but also includes clear, accessible interpretations. Take a look for yourself.

9 of Cups

Our mermaid doesn’t mind that she can’t move around. Why would she want to leave her comfortable spot? She is perfectly happy where she is with everything she wants: a spectacular chaise lounge, moody lighting, and enough drinks to get her through the party, with some to share. Within minutes, she will be surrounded by people drawn by her happiness.

When this card comes up, you get one free wish. There’s no guarantee on that wish, but in the old days this was known as the wish card. What it really means is that you are perfectly content with what you have, particularly in terms of relationships of all sorts. You are at ease with feelings and can share them with others in a healthy way. In short, you feel fulfilled and satisfied, so much so that don’t really need that wish, as it seems all of yours have been granted. If there is any advice here, it is to share your good fortune with others.

Keywords: wishes fulfilled, contentment, satisfaction, hospitality, sensuality, happiness

Reversed: overindulgence, smugness, dissatisfaction, selfishness

Four Simple Ways to Enhance Your Spells

Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Mat Auryn, author of the bestselling Psychic Witch and the new Mastering Magick.

Mat AurynIn my book Mastering Magick: A Course in Spellcasting for the Psychic Witch, one of my main motives was to share aspects of spellcasting that are often overlooked that I wish I knew when I first started engaging in magick. A lot of these insights are incredibly simple and cost nothing; the price of admission is simply your attention, energy, sincerity, and time. Here are four simple examples of ways you can enhance your spells when you’re casting them to ensure that you’re properly connecting with the energy of the spell and thereby enhancing the potency of its outcome.

1. Don’t Rush the Spellcasting Process
It’s important not to treat a spell like it’s something to check off of your to-do list. This particularly becomes a problem among seasoned practitioners with a lot of experience under their belt, but also sometimes a stumbling block that newer practitioners also experience. You aren’t assembling an Ikea desk, you’re connecting with the forces of the universe. This is why simple practices such as centering yourself are so crucial, to ensure that you’re here in the moment and that your energy and focus are aligned. Treating the spell process as sacred and being in the moment with the spell is going to ensure that your attention and energy is focused on the goal at hand—which is the manifestation of your spell.

2. Create a Magickal Atmosphere
Immersion is incredibly important when it comes to casting a spell, and your environment is a huge factor in this. Clutter is going to make it harder to focus your full attention—even if you’re used to living in a mess, psychologically your mind will be more relaxed and at ease. This is important when casting a spell as it helps to induce altered states of consciousness such as the Alpha brainwave state. Likewise, creating an atmosphere that feels magickal is going to help you align with the spellcasting process in a stronger manner. Create a mood! Light atmospheric candles that have nothing to do with your spell other than creating a magickal ambiance, put on some instrumental music that aligns with your goal. This also helps the subconscious mind to know that you’re doing something special and sacred, something out of the ordinary, which helps with the immersion process of aligning your energy with the spell.

3. Build a Genuine Relationship with Your Magickal Tools
Stop treating your magickal tools as if they’re simply tools from your garage. The witch‘s altar tools are a nexus point where the inner and outer worlds meet. They are an extension and receptacle of the witch’s own inner power: their mind, body, will, emotions, and spirit. They also have a spirit of their own. Treat the tools with reverence and respect their inherent spirit—name them, talk to them, meditate with them. Magickal tools in the past that were respected for their power were often named (Excalibur is a great example of that). By forging this type of relationship with your tools, you will see a drastic increase in their potency and effectiveness.

4. Trust Your Intuition & Psychic Ability
This is a crucially overlooked aspect of spellcasting if you want greater results. Listen to your intuition and any psychic nudges you might be receiving while casting your spell. While you should adhere to the main structure of the spell, be sure not to neglect how Spirit is moving you. Listen to your heart and your spirit while spellcasting. Perhaps you’re moved to use your own words at the spur of the moment in the spell instead of those pre-written. Perhaps you’re moved to start chanting, singing, humming, dancing, or to stop and meditate. Don’t neglect these inner nudges, as they can be messages of what will make your spell more powerful. A caveat of this rule is group working;, if you’re not leading the ritual (and sometimes even then), it is bad etiquette to start doing your own thing as it can negatively affect the cohesion, group-mind, and attention of others in the ritual.

Autumn Release and Surrender: Hanged Man Season

Readers, please enjoy this guest blog post by Ailynn Halvorson, author of the new Tarot Apothecary.

Tarot Apothecary

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I love the cooler temperatures; the rain; a fireplace; sweaters; and comfy moments sitting on the couch with hot tea, a book, and a blanket. As the days grow shorter, we start to send our energies inward, both mentally and physically. Twilight is especially magical this time of year with the darker evenings that allow you to step into a kind of mystical world, where the trees look like large shadow guardians and the evening feels like you could just reach through the air into another coexisting realm. It is as if your ancestors are within reach—all you have to do is to reach out, connect with them, have a good talk and receive their sound advice. There is a shifting going on. The shift between summer and winter. A gap in time that gives the opportunity to remember what has gone and to envision what is yet to come. We have moved out of the masculine, expansive, energy of summer into the feminine, internal energy of fall. We move from fire element to water element.

Autumn and twilight have a commonality in that they are both gaps in time. The fall is the gap between the two extremes of summer and winter. Twilight is the gap between the two extremes of day and night. Both fall and twilight have that magical, mystical feeling of the in-between state of being. Fall also relates to the water element as a feminine energy and a time of purification. Fall is the time to let go and surrender to what is, so that new growth can spring forth in early April, when spring arrives and all is born again. Now, in this fall season, it is time to let go of that which no longer serves you, to take a step into that mystical gap and allow what is dying to die. Purify yourself with the energy of water and relax into the shifting energies. Release your leaves and allow them to compost for new growth.

I often think of autumn as the Hanged Man season. A suspended state, a ritual of purification, a time of letting go, releasing and surrendering to what is. The Hanged Man is in a suspended state of being, and like twilight and autumn, he is in the gap. He is in the present, yet time stands still during this magical suspended state of being. Every fall, I step into my Hanged Man role and create rituals around purification, such as hot salt baths, tea rituals, and I pull out my water-element essential oils and herbs. How about a lovely cup of Chamomile tea? I also spend time stepping into and meditating with the water elemental tarot archetypes of the major arcana.

In my book The Tarot Apothecary: Shifting Personal Energies Using Tarot, Aromatherapy and Simple Everyday Rituals, I talk about imaginative meditation. This is the state of allowing your imagination to lead you in meditation to a predetermined place, with possible pre-determined archetypes to meet up with. It is about stepping into that pre-determined scene and allowing your imagination to take the lead. During this imaginative meditation, I spend time with each of the five-water element major arcana tarot archetypes: The High Priestess, The Chariot, The Hanged Man, Death, and The Moon. During the fall’s three months, I will spend time with each water archetype individually. Sometimes I spend more time with one than others, depending on what is currently going on in my life. Why do I do this? Because each archetype will have a message for me. They help me to release what needs to go, and to create open space to receive. As you let go, life becomes a bit lighter and clarity can set in. You begin to develop more awareness, which helps you to create, plan, and navigate your movement forward.

I will start my fall journey with The Hanged Man. This is because I feel The Hanged Man is the perfect symbol for autumn. I step into meditation hanging upside down with The Hanged Man, allowing myself to feel what he feels and to see things the way he sees things. The Hanged Man helps you to see what needs to go, what is truly important to you and what is hanging you up. I will often spend the first month of the season with The Hanged Man, just allowing myself to let go, purify and get a new perspective on my life. This allows for ideas of where to go next, what needs to be taken care of and what energies I wish to call into my life. Maybe I want to replace the old with the new or maybe I just want that open space for a while.

Sitting in meditation with The High Priestess can help you to get in touch with your intuition and to be quiet for a while, to sit and to listen to your own internal knowing. She will help you to gain the clarity and knowledge you require to move forward.

The Chariot will help to find focus for moving forward, as well as to help release emotions prior to any movement, so that these emotions do not stop you dead in your tracks, even before you get started. Emotions such as fear and self-doubt can surely sabotage the whole thing, if you let them take hold.

The Death card is also a great card for Autumn. Death is the space to let those leaves die and to bury what needs to be composted for new growth to take root.

The Moon helps you to face your fears and to be ready to walk in the dark, trusting your intuition to lead the way forward.

Spending time in imaginative meditation with each card is the perfect way to release and be prepared for the next season. Allow yourself to flow like water, to purify your body, mind, and spirit. Be open to receive the healing and loving energy of the water element. Allow your cup to overflow and be grateful for the tarot archetypes that can assist you in reaching your dreams and creating your kingdom. Embrace the season of The Hanged Man. Step into the mystery and allow the water element to purify your soul.

The 7 of Swords in Love

The Seven of Swords is one that most would not like seeing in a reading about love. Let’s see What Elliot has to say about the upright meaning of this card.

Seven of Swords

The Seven of Swords has long been associated with tricksters, manipulation, and deception. If this card represents a new love interest, they are cunningly intelligent and thrilling company. However, they are also a bit dangerous. In many tarot decks, the Seven of Swords depicts a thief. In a love reading, this can warn you of getting your heart stolen by someone who won’t take care of it. The Seven of Swords can also signify a partner who possesses a rebellious nature. He or she flouts the rules and is resistant to feeling controlled or obligated. The Seven of Swords will always ask you to take an honest look at what is currently happening, without getting carried away with what you hope to see. Many times, the deception emphasized by the Seven of Swords is self-deception. This can happen if you are still clinging to an unhealthy attachment, even when the inconvenient truth is staring you in the face. At its most innocent, the Seven of Swords is associated with fibbing and false flattery.

In a Love Reading:

New Relationship

The Seven of Swords can represent a thrilling new love interest; however, resist throwing all caution to the wind. Trust your instincts if something feels off. Watch this person’s actions instead of believing their words alone. He or she may defy the rules or even the law. This card can also represent a heartbreaker who flirts with everybody.

Long Term Partnership

For a long-term partnership, your partner may be rebelling against something in the relationship that feels overly restrictive. They might protest against established norms in the relationship. This card can also indicate dishonesty by omission. You may have to read between the lines to get at the heart of what they truly need.

Intimacy

The Seven of Swords will warn you to stay vigilant with sexy flatterers who are up to no good! If you are hearing words from someone that aren’t matching up with their actions, trust what you are seeing. This card can also signify a person who shows you who they really are through their actions, even if their words are telling you the complete opposite.

Seeking Romance

If you are single, a past betrayal from a dishonest partner may be interfering with your ability to trust. Don’t allow the past to make you paranoid about the future. The past experiences have sharpened your wits. Trust your inner wisdom. You can no longer be fooled unless you choose to ignore warning signs.

Desires

The Seven of Swords can represent a desire to cut through deception and reestablish the truth. Instead of being anxious or paranoid about a glaring issue, be honest and direct. Define your values and boundaries and make them clear. This card encourages you to face the truth in yourself and others, even if you feel conflicted.
