I think you have a point about the arrogance, but that Darcy was more complex or he would not have fallen for Elizabethe. MacFayden portrayed the complexity better instead of accepting and enacting Darcy's surface personality. To me, a film should achieve different effects than the novel on which it is based, because film has the capacity to do that without going into a lot of boring and 'telling' description about how a character appears.
I tried to watch the BBC version and couldn't sit through more than fifteen minutes.
