Wow- This passage escaped me ( It's been a while since I read this book) Yes, the intertwining of the thread through the mom is very prominent. Blue is the paint she used as well. I have another meaning that crossed my mind. It involves Denny being the last male in the Whitshank line. The end of the book really took me aback because Denny evidenced Whitshank character. I saw him as the end of the spool of thread.
I had never thought of Denny as the end of the line. Thank you for that insight!
