I truly loved the ending. You sort of knew already, but the ending really drives it home -- the Targaryens really are special and different. (Do remember that this is a fantasy.)
i meant literally the ending (spoilers) with denys breastfeeding the dragons - it was such an OTT image. book two is cracking along thus far, about half way done with it after a week of reading
The thing that hit me about the ending was Daenerys' absolute certainty that fire would not harm her. As for the baby dragons, I guess I am jaded by years of reading SF&F, I just thought "WOW, cool!" Have you seen the HBO adaptation of the final scene? It is really well done. (Don't get to see the OTT part though.)
a friend of mine has just read it and without me prompting him at all he returned it to me and said "breast feeding f'kin dragons?" and shook his head - though so saying he, like me, has become curious about the sequels within a day or so. seems these books are like cigarettes, you have one and despite feeling a little underwhelmed and noxious you immediately want another
i'm finding that, and the appendicies really don't help. i could loose the maps at the front and replace them with ven diagrams of who is who and who the allign with - the maps are pointless. so saying, for Tyrion alone i'd keep reading, his chapters are fantastic (please no spoilers, if he dies i'll find out in me own time)

Really? I think the ending is too...cliche?
