Dasmith Cally makes a good point. There are series where each book is a complete arc in itself and those I find less bothersome. Any series where the author ends right in the middle of the action without a sense at least of a resting point borders on coitus interruptus to use medical terminology. I agree with Renee's point about needing a break in a long series but I would prefer to control the length of that break. It's one thing to take a few months off and then come back but one to two years is soooo frustrating. And I am cynical enough to wonder if some of these shorter two and three book series are intentionally chopped up by the publishers to generate more profit.

Publishing is a long and slow business, though. A lot of the waiting time is probably out of the author's control.
