That's exactly what I was going to say!
I can't agree more, Ivana! Especially with Neil Gaiman. I LOVED the book and thought the movie, while fun, just didn't hold up to the book.
I often prefer to see the movie 1st just because i know it won't be as good as the book and i won't be as disappointed than if i had read the book 1st.
I totally follow you there, Francesca, but contrarily, I don't want to spoil the ending with the movie that I don't think is as good. In this case I did see the movie first, unintentionally. But I think if you can learn to accept that differences must be made since film is a different medium than a book. Which can be very. very hard, I admit.
I agree with Wendy, but the only downfall is that if a charachter is drastically miscast it will be hard to get past that when you read. Everytime I read a book before the movie I am sorely disappointed!
I watched the movie first and then I read the book. I did prefer the movie compared to the book, but really either way is fine it is really up to how you prefer it. Personally for me I like to watch the movie first, because then I have those characters images in my head and then I can here their voices and see them as I read the book. If you prefer to allow the characters to be imagined in your mind and take on their own personality based on what you read than you should do that instead.
