I'd agree with this. Book four is a serious drop off. It's still very good, but the first three are just unbelievable and it feels like a failure in comparison.
i also agree. The first three were wonderful in literary style as well as content. Perhaps the later of the series was rushed and commercialized.
It was originally planed to be a 7 book series. However with the health decline of George Martin he may not be the one to finish the series. I also agree with you, the fourth and fifth books are a little like a train wreak.
