message 14: by Liesa (new)

Liesa Malik Did anyone else catch that Mr. Bennet may be an older version of Mr. Wickham? They both study human behavior to either mock or take advantage of it. I wonder if Mrs. Bennett is really a lot more like her daughter, Lydia, than a first read may reveal?

message 15: by Sorrel (new)

Sorrel I think that Lydia is very like Mrs Bennet but whilst I do see the similarities that you point out I think that Mr Bennet is more respectful of people if that makes sense. I don't think Wickham had any respect for the Bennet family or he wouldn't have done what he did.

Caye I can see the Lydia/Mrs Bennet similarities but yes, like Sorrel I disagree with Mr Bennet being an older version of Wickham. Though they both have that somehow mocking, observant kind of behavior, Wickham is scheming and mercenary (I hate him). I doubt if the younger Mr Bennet would have acted the way Wickham did.
