I can absolutely see Scarlett pulling such a stunt! I have never read Scarlett because I have never felt the novel ended on a cliffhanger. Theirs is a passionate affair that will always be riddled with rash words, separation and amazing reconciliations!
oh but he did offer for divorce himself, remember?He asked her to marry Ashley in the end ...also Rhett doesn't lie and he said the only feelings he had in the end were pity and kindness...
The only sentence that gave me hope was him saying"Always Ashley"
I think that was just the jealousy talking. I also think he himself was scared. The dynamic of their entire relationship was about to change. No more war, no more other people getting in the way, no more excuses to get out of having a real conversation about how they felt instead of hiding behind their hard masks...just them.
