It's true. Hollywood HAS the potential to make amazing movies but in most cases they don't deliver. IMO they use special effects as a distraction for poor acting and poor story lines.
However for a remake of GWTW the story line is already there. And there are some directors who really go at a movie to make it brilliant. James Cameron for instance.
What does the film industry have now that they didn't have then that would improve Gone With the Wind?
Is improving it the idea or just being able to watch a different one? I love watching the countless versions of Jane Eyre there are. Some good, some not so good and some are awesome. It's nice to see the same thing with a different take on it and different actors.
We would have to disagree. While the movie hasn't followed the book exactly, it was an amazing achievement. I still watch it now and then , although I have seen it 30+ times, and I'm amazed by majestic, how well executed and acted and filmed it was. And let's not forget, that was 85 years ago! The movie, like the book, was PERFECTION!!!!

Fx&CGi don't make better movies. They just make movies that require little if any attention span and probably considerably less intellectual participation.
