I haven't seen the movie, not because Tom Cruise is playing Reacher, but because I'm afraid of being disappointed. I do agree with you that Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch is the best adaptation from page to screen. In my opinion it was flawless.
Read the book, seen the movie, and I like Tom Cruise but Josh Brolin would be my pick for Reacher series .If you see Oldboy (2013) you might agree. a film by spike lee. Not the best but brolin sure looks like I picture Reacher.
I agree with Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch as well as Robert Duvall as Boo Radley. I saw Jack Reacher before I started reading the books. Physically, Tom Cruise is nothing like Reacher but he did capture the character.
Robert Duvall as the Great Santini. Great book and a great movie. Actually, Robert Duvall in most anything he's ever done, The Apostle also comes to mind.
Duvall as Cash, the gun range owner in Jack Reacher was perfect and exactly how I pictured the character when I read One Shot. Kinda makes up for the mis-casting of Cruise.
