Joseph Scalice The Drama of Dictatorship is not engaged in "polemical recriminations." It is, rather, a cogent historical argument: Stalinism, embodied in two parties, made martial law possible. Any meaningful scholarly criticism of the book needs to deal with this argument and the evidence for it. Labelling it "hyper-partisan" amounts to nothing but name-calling.

Karlo Mikhail I reread the book recently and agree with your response here on the emptiness of labels like "hyper-partisan" etc.. I slightly edited my initial reaction to reflect this change of perspective.
