Yeah, I agree with Julio in the last point. I read it in Spanish and thought it was wonderful, then again, I have a special liking for Neruda. Sometimes adaptations aren't very good and a literal translation never works. Spanish IS a bit more wordy than English, as a general term, so that didn't help.

Neruda happens to be one of the poets I actually like, since I don't care for poetry in general. Funny that a writer would object to words.
Neruda is one of the few modern poets that I actually like.
Patrick: poetry is not only present in poems. Poetic writing is found in novels, plays, short stories, speeches, and yes, memoirs, too, even more when the author is a poet. Perhaps you should be the one to find out more about literature and stylistic devices instead of urging people to "google" things. To read a poet's memoir and expect not to find any poetry in it is absurd.
Actually "absurd" is taking this all too seriously. This was my review. It was satire, it was meant to be funny. I did not like the memoir, I'm actually allowed to not like it, even if Neruda is one of your favorites, or a poet allowed to write poetry, or your distain for google. As a WRITER I get to do this, just as you get to leave a comment objecting to my being able to do this.... do you feel better now that you have? I sure hope so.

Poetry is not telegrams, is not economical, of course Neruda let his pen (with green ink) flow and flow; to our delight.
Poetry is from the soul, like "la metafora". If you don't get it try reading it in spanish.
