Hey Jim, I agree, the book was good and there is a follow up by the same author, Al Stump, which paints Cobb in a little more harsh a light--not that Cobb didn't bask in that light on his own accord--but he states that Cobb maintained editorial control over the biography and that he (Stump) decided to reveal more "truth" in the follow-up. After reading the different accounts I feel pretty much the same about Cobb--he was an violent, egotistical, bigot and sociopath, but one hell of a ball player who played the game with the same tenacity and grit that he approached life with.
The article, especially near the end, had me recollecting a quote by Winston Churchill, "History is written by the victors" (or the last man standing if he holdeth the pen).
