Salem, Massachusetts is definitely a favorite, where the Salem witch trials took place. Emily's Bridge in Stowe Vermont is one, the Bridgewater Triangle is huge or Danvers State hospital in Massachusetts is a big one, I saw someone ask if you had ever thought about writing a book about an asylum, that would definitely be a good read!
Sadly, Danvers State Insane Asylum is no longer there. A few years back it was developed into an apartment complex (creepy to think of living there). This involved the demolition of most of the buildings of the former insane asylum. Around 1/3 of one of the main buildings was kept and renovated.
That is certainly a creepy place to live, that could even be a good book!
