Why do you think so many writers preach that you need to write every day to be successful?
Practice, I expect. Something to do with the ten thousand hour rule. I happen to disagree with that, though; a bad writer writing every day only reinforces bad habits. Far better to WORK ON YOUR WRITING daily than to write daily.
It probably also has a volume element, too. There's a quote floating around somewhere, and it's driving me nuts that I can't remember where it's from, but it essentially says that if I jot down one idea, and that idea sucks, that's that, but if I jot down a thousand ideas, one of them is bound to be a winner.
To be honest, I don't write every day. I do try to read every day, or edit, or something else constructive.
