Kristal Shaff Would love that!

Paul Darr The Networks I could see it working well on:
1. HBO - They obviously do well enough with Game of Thrones.
2. AMC - They did well with The Walking Dead.
3. The CW - I'm a fan of "Supernatural". The Dresden Files would probably be popular with fans of that show. As long as they didn't try to make it like some of their other teen horror shows.
4. NBC - They are doing Constantine (Hellblazer). I could see some good cross advertising between shows there.

message 3: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Jones Feels like HBO or would do best honestly. Everyone else, pardon my pun, butchers a book when they convert into the show format. As a standard season by season the books wouldn't do well. They're too short for 26 episodes, but still too long for single movies. 4-5 episodes mini-series style would do well I believe, but that's just this nerd's opinion.

message 4: by Paul (new)

Paul Darr Andrew if doing a regular season and not a mini series I think covering the material of two books a season would be good. Then the mid-season finale would be a book finale and it would pace well. Otherwise I agree a mini series would work well.

And from your comments I take it your not a fan of the adaptation of The Walking Dead? I put HBO as my #1 choice but I figure the others have a chance to do well depending on who they had running it.

message 5: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Jones Two books per season could work out, I just worry that there wouldn't be enough source material to really flesh things out. The events of the books usually only take place over a few days, and I just have a hard time seeing a single book stretch across 13 episodes.

I enjoy what I've seen of TWD, but I've not read the source material so I feel unqualified to remark on their take on the series from a personal view, but have heard from fans of both that they've played with major plot points and switched things around. Not sure how true it is though.

message 6: by Kristal (new)

Kristal Shaff Maybe they should just go straight to movies then? :) Like a wizard James Bond. lol.

message 7: by Phil (new)

Phil @Andrew, "24" manages to spread a single day over a season. I think the most recent book already out, "Cold Days", takes place on a similar timescale, but I don't think there's any problem with lack of source material ;-)

message 8: by Tiff (new)

Tiff That would be great to see the Dresden Files as a TV series.

message 9: by Ruxandra (new)

Ruxandra Best news I have heard all day.

message 10: by Heather (new)

Heather That would be so AWESOME! I was late to the party, but watched the series via Netflix about a year ago. I thought it was pretty good (despite the glaring differences, like Murphy's appearance), and have been hoping we'd have something new! I hope it all works out! :-)

message 11: by Lunar (new)

Lunar I agree with everyone else; I think HBO would do a great job with the series! They did so well with Game of Thrones, and that had to be a daunting task if there ever was one.
I know for a fact if Dresden Files was rebooted, in any media form; movie series (like Harry Potter was), miniseries, TV show, I'd support it.
I was pretty bummed when I figured out, all in the same day, that Dresden Files did have a TV series...but that it had already been cancelled. I'm a non-picky fan. I'll take whatever extras I'm thrown...but I think the first go at the TV series was kinda lacking. It was entertaining, yeah, but they just changed SO MUCH. Even the tools he used to do his magic, his car...his style. Those weird things they did with the plot and how Harry related to a lot of the characters...
The books are fantastic, perfectly good as they are. So why change so much? Bah. I bought it anyway and I covet it.

In any case, I really hope Dresden Files gets another chance. I'm a wizard/witch fantasy junkie, and after the Harry Potter series ended, I've just been dying

message 12: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I would accept nothing less than HBO taking this series on. That and the Stormlight Archives (once Sanderson completes more of the series). My life would be complete.

message 13: by Ericka (new)

Ericka annamarie oh my stars i would love a Dresden flies tv show again or even just a movie! i miss it soo much.

message 14: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I'd like to see it done like Sherlock, 3 episodes a season, each episode 1.5 or 2 hours. They could do a book an episode.

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather Not a bad idea! :)

message 16: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Mäkinen Will the new series be more loyal for the magical world of the books? Dresden barely used any magic as much as he did in the books in the tv-series.

message 17: by Austin (new)

Austin I hope they find a better Dresden this time

message 18: by Fredrik (new)

Fredrik Paul Blackthorne was, IS, awesome.

message 19: by Jesse (new)

Jesse In the reboot, the Dresden character can't be "sanitized" like the last one. The "edge" must be there, otherwise... yawn... More importantly, the series will not differentiate. Honestly, the advice could be applied to where we are with the series currently.

message 20: by Jaclyn (new)

Jaclyn I'd be pretty okay with James Marsters as Harry in any revamp. He's done amazing things in the Audible version - save for #13, which I started today. What a jarring change of narrators!!

message 21: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Wow, I rarely listen to audio books, quite surprised to know this. Use the narrator to bootstrap the new series... one with acting experience as well. That makes sense for a lot of reasons. Not sure James is "noir" enough for this role... could be possible though. I did like the original actor in the series, just need to stay true to the gritty, gray themes of the series. Well, used to be gray...

message 22: by Barb (new)

Barb Hardman I was so excited to watch the Dresden Files when I got Netflix. I couldn't make it through the 2nd one. I absolutely love your books. I've read them all, several times and obviously can't (but must) wait for new ones. The tv series though, sucked. What I saw of it anyway. It can't be that hard to be true to what you have created in your books. Bob in corporeal form? No way. And Harry, not at all as he us described. Karen is small and blonde and sharp witted. Not in the series. Harry is funny, again not in the series, and he has hair. Hello!? I hope, if a new tv series is done, it will be a titch more real to the world you take us to. That is what we want to see, not what Hollywood thinks we want to see. Blessings!

message 23: by Ash (new)

Ash I'd like to see the Dresden Files animated. A darker adult series like Spawn was.

message 24: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Ball I actually enjoyed the SciFi (Syfy?) series. I feel like your books could easily be ported to either a sleuth-style or action FX extravaganza type show or movies. Please find someone who will help you make those!

message 25: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Tuttle Netflix would probably jump on a revival of Dresden Files. Oh, how I wish...

message 26: by Erinn (new)

Erinn You know James Marsters would make a steller Harry, he has done such a great job with the audiobooks.

message 27: by Chris (new)

Chris I have a hard time separating Marster from Harry at this point. He could definitely be made to have the right look as well.

message 28: by Amanda Lewis (new)

Amanda Lewis I agree that Blackthorne was awesome, however, I'd like to suggest Lee Pace if this gets picked up anytime soon.

message 29: by jamako (new)

jamako Would love to see James Purefoy as Harry!

message 30: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Powell If there is a series - I hope that the company I work for gets to work on the VFX. That would be so cool. I would love to see the series revamped or even as a movie series. So stoked about the last book - it was super awesome.

message 31: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Powell I hope that Jared Padelecki is free to do Dresden..

message 32: by Cyn (new)

Cyn Ohhhh - I like the sound of that!!

message 33: by Erinn (new)

Erinn I'd like to see a series that starts when Harry first shows up in Chicago. We'd get to see him meet all the characters that we already know and love and try to eek out a living when no one believes wizards are real.

message 34: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Viscome-Skinner I just re-watched the series on DVD (AGAIN!) Man, it would be great to have more of that! Fingers, toes and ears crossed in hopes.

message 35: by Trish (new)

Trish I wouldn't want a reboot since I think the TV show was (despite the differences to the books) very good. But I'm up for more seasons!

message 36: by Penney (new)

Penney Nile Is there any discussion yet on who might be playing Harry? My vote is for Craig Horner!

message 37: by Trish (new)

Trish What? Oh hell no, please, PLEASE no such boy! Harry's a man and has to look the part! Craig Horner always makes me want to get out a blanket I can wrap him hin like a little baby. ;p

message 38: by Amber (new)

Amber Price It has to be Idris Elba.

message 39: by Jetoine (new)

Jetoine Elba would be good Also netflix would sign on

message 40: by Jetoine (new)

Jetoine Paul blackthorn is good but He is getting a bit long in the tooth at the beginning of the series Harry should be what late 20s to mid 30s no more than 35 methinks

I thought the series was awesome but really it needs a good game of thrones darkening and not trying to please the masses this would be for the fans

message 41: by Rutaemilija (new)

Rutaemilija It would do fantastic now with all the available effects to illustrate the magic and all other weird happenings. Netflix could definitely roll with it and have a few successful seasons surely. Or Syfy. Syfy and Space did a stellar job on Bitten based on Kelley Armstrong books.

message 42: by Andy (new)

Andy Johnson That would be a perfect series for Netflix! We all should petition them to make it a series. I would love a season for each book. Harry Dresden is awesome!

message 43: by Donald (new)

Donald Beale I would love to see it redone. The dresden files books are spectacular, but the series I describe as a series about a wizard that doesn't do magic.

message 44: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Clark I loved that show... boooo to whoever made it go away... :( cut out the reality tv and have more paranormal/fantasy type shows ... yep... that make me happy... that and cowboys... lol

message 45: by Shelly (new)

Shelly Dillin The Dresden Files is one of my all time favorite book series AND TV series. Harry's vulnerabilities and dry wit are wonderful!

message 46: by Kelley (new)

Kelley Stack Next time around it should James Marsters as Harry Dresden!!

message 47: by jamako (new)

jamako Would love to see a reboot of the Dresden Files in the BBC One Format (Sherlock, Luther etc.). You get Episodes as long as 90 minutes and could easily do 3 or 4 Books per Season (1 book per Episode). Also I'd love to see James Purefoy as Harry.

message 48: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne Powell Jim - you need to talk to Kirkman and get your novels into either a series or movie. I say this because I work on one of Kirkmans live action series and your fans deserve this, but most of all - Harry Dresden deserves this. Please please please - I would love to see a movie of him. TV series would be grand as well - so much good stuff going on. VFX is easier now than ever before so a lot of Harry's "spells" and the creatures can be done.

message 49: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Someone online mentioned that Zachary Levi would be a good Harry and I thought...hmmmm...I can actually see that. But can he do the darker aspects? And then I watched the new Heroes series --- yep!

message 50: by Rahul (new)

Rahul Sarkar Yes, the tv world needs its own new Harry again, we wants it!
