Either an Buffyesk tv show where 1 season is about 2 books worth of story or something like that or a bunch of movies :D
There may be a scene in _Dead Beat_ that I would really like to see on the big screen. You know the one.
I just had a strange idea of Harry Dresden meeting the Winchesters (Supernatural). Think the out come would be very interesting.
YES! a Halloween or Christmas special where the three of them work on a case together. Then Castiel shows up! It would be even more hilarious if they got Jensen Ackles to do it, then Harry would be worrying about another half-brother!
YES! The cancellation of the "Dresden Files" was the biggest mistake EVER. I want it back! And with the same cast!
Just want to say two things: I never watch tv series, but I do have Netflix streaming. Saw your series after the fact and LOVED IT! So much so I searched the Internet every where looking for the channel, time, etc. could NOT believe it wasn't being furthered.
Now reading this, I'm very happy to see they are looking back into that. I can only assume that people weren't ready for you, they needed the crappie other paranormal books to movies before they are ready for something more sophisticated.
LOVE your dry sarcastic humor. I've read thousands of books most every genre, but come back to paranormal & epic fantasy, historical, with trashy contemporary as my beach reads. Only mentioning this because I CAN easily separate creative writing genius Authors from the norm. I've only around 25 authors that have fit my genius criteria, and your on that list.
I don't normally get into a series of books, but once I read the first one of the Dresden files I got hooked. Thanks, for bring that series to us. Good luck with the TV/NetFlix series. I do believe Netflix could do a better job because they can take their time with each book to go into as much details without being on a crunch for time. They could do 8 - 10 x 1 hour episodes per book. I think you have given quite of bit of details for them to build on each character.
I'm new to the Dresden Files, but I LOVE IT! I'm on book 8 and it's definitely going to be a reread over and over! And James Marsters is a wonderful narrator for it. Maybe he should play Dresden if the show is ever remade :)
OH GOD, YES PLEASE. The original series is an abomination, I'd love to see something done so much closer to the books. You know, where Bob's an actual skull?
It will be super exciting to get movie series instead of tv shows, because that way you will have more time to pass all the atmosphere from books into the movie. This is especially true for "Summer Knight", I think there could be some epic episodes.
please please don't let them use Tom Cruise for Harry.
Not that I have any thing against Mr Cruise but he wasn't the Jack Reacher that I had in my head..... many thanks in advance xx
I want a HBO or Showtime or Stars series of these, where they can really do the white court and farie queens and such justice.
If it DOES get rebooted, please please please don't let them take the same liberties with the characters that they took in the other TV series! Combining Susan and Karrin into one character, and making Bob the Skull a ghost instead of a spirit of intellect really detracted from the overall strength of the series.
IMHO, this is a big problem with TV adaptations. It's what killed Altered Carbon for me -- I watched the first episode of that series, and hated it because of the changes made from the original book, so I never watched any more of it. I watched all of the original Dresden TV series, but some of the changes bugged me, like a hockey stick for Harry's staff, and others. I was just waiting to see Mister and Mouse combined into a cockatiel or something. :P
I thought the first TV show was good and it helped me get hooked on the series. But you can't please everyone. And fans of books make the worst viewership and critics.
I read the first few titles before the series aired of course now my Harry is coloured by Paul Blackthorn whenever I re-read this series. Which I do often. I would just like to thank you for Harry and his team. They make me laugh and cry and smile and often at the same time. A Jewish Knight of the Cross, dude, you can't leave it there... We need more of Mouse and Maggie, and Grasshopper and who else in the Carpenter family shows potential???
Once again thank you for them and I pray it pans out the series can be rebooted.
As Gwendolyn Patton above says, let them not take so many liberties!! I want to see the basement lab and Toot-toot. *grin*
I'll keep the comments coming! I read reviews of the 2007 TV show and it deterred me from watching it. I should've watched first and then read it. I like the look of Paul Blackthorne, though.
Yep, a TV series was made, and I simply loved it!!!!! Wish the series continued for longer though. Now I'm gonna read the books. Oh yeah!
This might sound strange, but as I'm reading through the books, I can honestly see an animated adaptation working, as well.
Something about the characters, with them being so well-defined, makes them feel as though they could work in animated form, where they can be drawn in a more well-defined manner.
Of course, I'm well aware of the graphic novel series with it's realistic art style, but I could see even a more anime-influenced art-style working well for the series. Something along the lines of Cowboy Bebop or Vampire Hunter D.
Is this something you've ever considered, Mr. Butcher?
I think this would be great but don't rush it. So many good stories are rushed when put to the screen.
I hope you resist... if not, retain creative control! Visual arts people will (pardon the pun) butcher it. I haven't seen a single movie or show in years that wasn't full of storyline errors
I have stumbled across the Dresden files with excited glee, only to be disappointed 😞 so many inconsistencies. I know I'm being silly they have to make compromises but it really spoils it.
I absolutely adore this series, and I can only hope that if it was turned into a TV series or Movie series that it would bring justice to it. Well done Jim Butcher, very well done. I love the world you created and your method of communicating it to us. Thank you
Jim Butcher PLEASE release Twelve Months and Mirror Mirror in paperback form to match the rest of your wonderful series. If you go to production as a TV Series it may end up like the unfinished Game of Thrones books by RR Martin. Please don't let that happen to you and to us your "Harry Dresden" fans.
