message 1: by Isobel (new)

Isobel Miller Nico is Catholic and Will is Protestant? They really are opposites, aren't they?

message 2: by Mary (new)

Mary I love your answer to this question, but I especially love that you didn't answer this person directly to protect them. It just shows how much consideration you put into answering these questions.

message 3: by Lina (new)

Lina Grace I love that this answer is both respectful and well-thought-out! As a Christian myself, I wholeheartedly agree that it is in the actions, not the words or flashy declarations. Personally, I don't go around yelling "I am a Christian!" And when there are people like that it is oftentimes the sad fact that they are surface-level Christians who only do so for the attention that is received because of it or the community that can be made around being Christian. It breaks my heart that people would use the Christian faith and belief to promote their selfish desires when the basis of Christianity is selfless and loving. I see a lot of actions in Rick's books that promote the selfless, generous, and respectful actions that a Christian should follow. This includes inclusivity with the LGBTQ+ community and different races. True Christians understand that, above all, we love others as God loves us no matter what they love or believe in.

message 4: by Ari (new)

Ari Fantastic response to a clearly bigoted pointed question about LGBTQ+ people. Thank you for being an ally.

message 5: by Julia (new)

Julia Bucci Thank you for your thoughtful and meaningful answer, from a Christian who is also part of LGBTQ+ community.

message 6: by aubree (new)

aubree kalyn this was actually the perfect response and the last paragraph was amazinggg

message 7: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Who goes into a book series about demigods and asks where the Christians are? like WHAT? Perfect response, though.

message 8: by Isobel (new)

Isobel Miller To be fair, we have demigod characters who practice other Abrahamic faiths, like Samirah and Lavinia.

message 9: by Charley (new)

Charley Storm I love this! Just because the gods have children, doesn't mean that those children follow the religion of their godly parent when in fact it's their motal parent that raises them! I just that this is your response to this. Thank you.

message 10: by Mark Anthony (new)

Mark Anthony mr rick riordan i love you so much 🤧 truly a stellar human being

CC ♡ [Newt's version] (semi-active) Good response although I disagree with you on one thing...
Yes, Christians don't have to go around saying "I'm a Christian". They have to show it with their actions. But in my opinion a true Christian is someone who BELIEVES. Believes Jesus is the one true God and believes in Him only.

message 12: by Isobel (new)

Isobel Miller I mean, it's kind of hard to believe Jesus is the one true god when you interact with Greek gods on a daily basis. Of course, they could be like Samirah and view the Greek gods as powerful beings but still God's creations.

message 13: by Sol (new)

Sol Cañas So I really love this response Rick Riordan has given to this and I agree completely. Also, if I may recall, in the first lighting thief book Percy himself asks about God, capital G to which Chiron responds saying it is a completely different matter, which shows just because they are Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Roman gods etc..that doesn’t mean there is no Christian’s in any way.

message 14: by Elinor (new)

Elinor BookNerdingTon I agree with Isobel, if all of the characters believe and interact with Greek Gods..they’re not really Christan. I’m a Christan and I think this is a very good response, but it does not make much sense to me.
