I really loved Red Sister by Mark Lawrence, if that is what you mean! I'm looking forward to the next in the series. I'll definitely check out your other recommendations, thank you!!!
Red Sister is right at the edge of my tolerance for grim and gritty, but there was enough of a sense of wonder to keep me going. So, yeah. Looking forward to the next one, too.
When in doubt I tend to fall back on Tamora Pierce-lots if humor & realistic reactions, strong female characters, and plenty of POC.
Definitely a favourite of my childhood (and later life)!
