Thanks for the reply! Based on your criteria, Champaign was the perfect choice. Eagerly awaiting your next book! I stayed in Champaign after college to work at a record label, so it sounds right up my alley.
I too am from Champaign and had the same question! Come visit post-Covid and I’ll show you around. Harry is my favorite character in the book, btw.
I love the broader concepts you draw out of these characters’ actions. Something so simple as a retort of, “you’re a whore” translating into Celia wanting Evelyn to feel the hurt as much as she did is quite fascinating to me. You do this time over time with al the characters and that’s why I love the book so much. Thanks for writing it!
I had to search for an answer as soon as I heard Champaign since I am from the area and still live here! I enjoyed this book, especially Harry's character, and could definitely see him growing up in central-Illinois!
Just came here to ask this as well - and indeed, the right town was picked for that description. I know I am late to the party, but really enjoying this book on vacation in the Ozarks.
