The 12K number is pretty much once or twice for me, too. I'm kind of glad those days don't come too often or I'd be comatose!
Yeah, I know! It's a huge giddy high both for the accomplishment and the rush of The Muse dragging you along for the ride, but then you realize you forgot to eat or sleep during that time and the crash is epic. Or at least it was for me. Also, the editing is painful. ;) You'd like to think the writing is the best during those times, but then when sense and logic return to you, you realize there's a lot of work to be done getting it to flow better and make, well, any sense.
Oh yes, the crash...which usually wipes out a full day of productivity the next day. Ah well, still worth it! I'm glad you've had that experience, too. :)
