Two space opera series I really got into are The Expanse by James S A Corey and The Honor Harrington series by David Weber (starts with On Basilisk Station). Both are very different, but great worlds.

Enders Game would be a good sci fi pick and after reviewing the book you can compare it to the upcoming movie. I'm not sure when the movie comes out, so maybe it would be a better choice closer to the film release. It's also a fast read, unlike his later books in the series.

Another great sci fi option would be On Basilisk Station. Great book and well written battle scenes based on historic battles of the British Navy.


Hitchhikers guide is a much better book than movie. MUCH MUCH better! It's also a good book to have a fun discussion around, not at all serious!
