114270 Module 7 focuses on National Parks! Summer is a wonderful time to go on a trip, or to just relax in your house with a good book about a family vacation or road trip. One of my favorites is An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. Another one of John Green's popular books that features a road trip is The Fault in Our Stars.

If you are planning on hitting the road, consider listening to an audiobook. It's a great way to pass the time and share some of your favorites with your family.
114270 For Module #6, we are focusing on Asian American Heritage. One book that I really enjoyed is the Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. However, a genre that I regularly read is Manga, and I enjoy authors such as Tite Kubo and Akira Toriyama. What are some titles or authors that you have enjoyed this month for Module #6?

114270 Module 4 is all about reading and celebrating our love of books and literacy. March 2 is Dr. Seuss’s birthday, so you may notice many people celebrating what is called “Read Across America” on this day or throughout the month of March. Check out the National Education Association for an abundance of information on “Read Across America”.

For some of us, reading has been something we have had a passion for since we were children, and we each have stories that we have carried with us all our lives. Some of us didn’t become readers until we reached adulthood, and realized how each book beholds tales that can touch our lives.

To celebrate, please share some of your favorite books or stories about what made you a lifelong reader. These can even be books that you read as children that you still remember fondly to this day!

114270 Welcome to Module 3! This month we are learning about African American History Month, which is in February. Of course, January is also a momentous month in African American History, as we also celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day on January 20. There are many great pieces of literature to read during this month, rather you prefer reading biographies or non-fiction pieces, or if you prefer fictional tales that also celebrate African American heritage.

Some of my favorites, though aimed at mostly children and young adult readers, are books that have won the Coretta Scott King Award. These books can be enjoyed by all ages, and are quite thought provoking. Some authors in particular that I have enjoyed are Walter Dean Myers and Christopher Paul Curtis. Monster by Walter Dean Myers is a book that will have you contemplating the circumstances in the novel long after you turn the final page. Another classic that I read when I was younger that has stuck with me is Newbery Medal winner Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. There are many wonderful adult authors you can check out as well, such as Alice Walker, Eric Jerome Dickey, and Toni Morrison.

If you have any books or authors that you recommend, please share!

114270 If you are interested in learning more about the Victorian Era and Christmas, I also found an interesting article on the BBC website. They not only have historical facts on the Victorian Era and Christmas, but they have a section with different activities and recipes you can do!

114270 Welcome to Module 2! During this module, we will all get to enjoy literature and other media related to the Victorian Era. During the winter and holiday months, we tend to see influences of the Victorian Era all around us. One obvious choice for a good Victorian Era read is the author Charles Dickens, but there are many wonderful books and movies to enjoy that incorporate this era. We would enjoy hearing all about some books that you have enjoyed, or any suggestions you might have for all of us that pertain to this subject.
