A) lowering your goal, maybe wait a couple days to see how much you’re writing a day now, then lower it to whatever sounds manageable, you can always raise it again
B) switching projects, sometimes this helps a lot because it can spark your interest again and it’s like starting from the beginning but with a head start
C) writing sprints, a couple ten minute writing sprints can really save a daily goal, you can even play a song two or three times on repeat and call that your timer
those three seem to help me the most, but really anything you think will work or might want to try is worth a shot. hope this helps :)

ummm... I wrote 4,000 words yesterday. that was the best NaNo start I've ever had. 4,000 words + I created an extensive list of the flora and fauna in my kingdom (with where they live and some vague migration paths and times for the animals and blooming patterns and habitats for the plants), made a family tree going back eight generations from my MC and calculated how long it had been AND created a custom calender (like a unique version not in this world) complete with moon phases, seasons, festivals, months, the whole custom shebang ALL IN ONE DAY
and now I'm a little scared lol
anyway wanted to share how I did the writing part, though it might not work for everyone (though if you're interested in the other things just ask, world building is my favorite part):
- basically I just did a bunch of 5-10 minute word sprints all throughout the day whenever I had the time or a little burst of inspiration. some ended up being longer like 15-20 minutes if the words flowed but for the most part it was under 10 minute sprints.
- I wrote on whatever was closest, a journal one time, my laptop another, ipad or phone, scrap piece of paper. so it didn't feel like a lot of writing and I don't feel burned out in the slightest which has always been a problem for me.
- if you can get 100 words per sprint then you need 16 sprints that day to hit 1,6(whatever it is) but 1,600. if you can do 200 per sprint then that's only eight sprints a day to hit the goal. so I ended up doing like 15 5ish minute sprints throughout the day which ended up being like an hour and a half of writing for about 2,000 words (then two longer sessions of an hour-ish each for the other 2,000).
- you can do sprints on top of longer writing sessions or just the sprints if you're having a busy day.
again, I apologize for dumping my grammer-less mess on you (I may edit it at some point), but hopefully this is a hack that will help someone who is just as messy as me

my and my brother have also co-written together and it usually ends up being how you described it with me writing most of it and him coming up with ideas with me, then he says he wants to write a scene and then never does it and complains that I’m doing everything. usually we take a break at that point and come back to it once we’re both ready to go again.
